Executive Summary for Bennett School (K-8)

The purpose of the Executive Summary is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe its strengths and the challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process for continuous improvement. The description should include:

• Information about the size, community, location and any changes it has experienced in the last three years. This would include demographics about students, staff, or community. Any unique features or challenges in the community the school serves.

• A description of how the school embodies its mission and vision statements through program offerings and expectations for students.

• Any notable achievements and areas of improvement in the last three years, as well as areas of improvement the school is striving to achieve in the next three years.

• Any additional information worth sharing with the public and community.

Bennett Executive Summary

Our Bennett school community is committed to focus on another year of progress, moving forward into our 2016-2017 school year. Our overall EOG performance composite of 53.3/62.4, both above the state and district EOG performance composites. For the past three years, our reading composite has been above the state and district composites, in both career/college ready and grade-level proficiency. Last year, our reading composite results were 54.6/66.3. For the past three years, our math composite has been above the state and district grade-level proficiency composites. Last year, our math composite results were 49.1/55.8, both of which were above the state and district performance composites. Our science composite of 59.3/68.5 was above the state performance composites. We are proud that we had some increase in our performance composites, yet we did not met expected growth. Moving forward, our school family remains committed to work diligently to ensure that all students have opportunities to demonstrate success. RazKids continues to be an asset for our teachers and students at school and at home. During the 2015-2016 school year, our students logged an impressive 66,456 minutes online. That's over 1,100 hours, over 46 days of reading! We will continue to take advantage of this resource, and work to identify and implement innovative and engaging resources.

We are appreciative for the support of Superintendent Dr. Jordan, our local school board, county commissioners, central services, and our PTA, and PTA Thrift Store. We will continue to partner with our PTA as we make plans for improving our school, strengthening communication and parental involvement in our schools. Last year, we received a check from the PTA thrift store for over $57,000. This year our check from the PTA Thrift Store was over $71,745.96, the largest check ever awarded to an individual school in Chatham County. Our Bennett PTA continues to provide additional support and resources to our school community. Our school and our gym received a new roof over the summer. Our teachers, staff and students are excited to receive over 90 new Chromebooks to deploy during this school year. Our teachers continue to identify out-of-the box, innovative methods and resources to reach our students, parents, and broader school community.

We continue to believe that our work together as a district and a school will lead to growth and progress for all of our students and staff.
