“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”
Happy Mothers Day May 2016
"IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER"
My mother was very young when she married and started a family, she was kept very busy raising my
siblings.
she raised a huge garden planting corn and peas in a row, then came tomatoes and cucumbers lots of
veggies to hoe.
My mother sewed and made our clothes canned veggies and made soap, she washed on a
washboard pulled water from a well by a rope.
Mother never complained as she hung her wash on a clothesline in the yard, she cooked us delicious
meals never saying she was just too tired.
Her pies and cakes and bread all were from scratch the chocolate icing was so good, I have tried to do
all she did but so far it seems I never could.
The dried apples and preserves sugar
cookies and snow-cream, all these were winter treats to sample again would be in a
dream.
Mother has been gone for many years I miss our time together every day, If only she could visit again but she has gone to
heaven to stay.

In Loving Memory, this Memorial Day
We set aside Memorial Day
Each and every year
To honor those who gave their lives
Defending what we hold dear.
In all the dark and deadly wars,
Their graves prove and remind us,
Our brave Americans gave their all
To put danger far behind us.
They made the ultimate sacrifice
Fighting for the American way;
We admire them and respect them
On every Memorial Day.
PLEASE DISPLAY YOUR FLAG ON THIS DAY TO
SHOW HOW PROUD WE ARE!!!!!!!!!

Women’s Club
On April 6th we had 44 members attend our meeting! This is our
last official meeting until Oct. We were blessed with 2 new members
joining us! a warm welcome was given to Jean Green & Lois Schell.
We opened our meeting with the pledge to the flag. March Minutes
were read by Peggy, voted on and approved. Treasures report was read
by Barbara.
Carol Reno will now be the Co-Chairman of the Charity committee,
Thank you Carol for helping in this important part of our club.
I explained to our group that in the event of a `members death or of
their spouse we would offer to help with a memorial service if that is
the desire of the family.
Nancy Stedding introduced our speakers from Chapters Health Hospice.
Linda and Jessica talked about the reasons hospice can be used in
helping a patient get all of the medical attention they need before
going home again, and or what to expect when a patient is dying. They
covered the importance of making your wishes known both in writing and
by talking to your family and friends about what you want or don't
want in the event of a catastrophic event. Just having a DNR is not
enough! You need to have advance Care Planning. They are working to
reopen the Hospice in Dade City. If you are not ready to be
discharged from the hospital just because insurance says you are,
state clearly that this is an Unsafe Discharge and they can not send
you home! It's the Patient's Choice in treatment.
Our hostesses this month were- Mary-Jo, Helen, Sherri, & Nancy Jones.
Thank you ladies for a wonderful choice in fruits and snacks!
April birthdays were celebrated. Raffles were drawn including 3 live
plants donated by our hostesses!
A sign up sheet to meet monthly for breakfast will be posted each
month with where the group will be going to eat. Enjoy!
Have a fun and safe summer and we will see you in the Fall.
If you need to contact one of us Carol Whitbeck or
Barbara Wharton are year round residents.

#1 - A tough one! No way can you guess. This handsome dude with the big grin was born and raised in the north! He and his pretty lady have lived here for about 7 years! Wow, this is a Doozie! Good luck!
#2 -Now here’s a doll; however, a sweet lady now! She loves to have her picture taken. Little miss “poser” for sure! She was born in the north and raised there and lived in the Midwest! She and hubby have been here for over five years!
#3 - Okay, this is one you can’t miss! She still looks (almost) exactly today! Pretty smile and eyes (and dimples too)! She was born and raised in the Midwest (can’t be bad at all). A WonderWoman sweet as sugar. Southfork has been lucky to have her and hubby here over 20 years!
#5 -A real Baby Doll in disguise, but if you know her, you won’t be surprised! She’s from the upper Midwest and she and hubby have lived here for nearly five years. She’s a real “beauty” and personality plus! The laugh is one of a kind! Come on……you ought to guess this one!
May 2016 Submitted by Jean Deiss.
COMING LATER THIS YEAR – A CHANCE TO GUESS
WHO OUR BABES ARE TO BE COMPETIVE! STAY TUNED! Good luck!
#4 - What a great looking young man and if you don’t know him, he is still the same! Personality PLUS – this guy! He may be a little older, now but just as great. Born and raised in NY, he and his lovely wife have lived here for over four years.

Unsung Heroes
We have many hard working Southfork Residents and we all know who
they are.
Many of these hard working folk prefer to remain in the background, BUT, you
will always see their hard work in one way or another. Setting up tables,
removing tables, moving chairs and returning chairs. Hummm!
Now whom might that be? Serving foods, preparing foods, clearing foods,
offering soft drinks, running home for more forks! Taking care of the Mics
so we can all hear!
Planning “ Out and About’s “, checking out fine dining establishments, so all
will be happy which certainly cuts into their private time and making
entertainment on Tuesday evenings a true pleasure. Viewing entertainers for
our enjoyment and again cutting into their time and they still wish to remain
a bit in the background, but we all know you are there, serving our
community.
Nothing more to add, thank you Carolyn and Jim McAdams, for all you do.
Please don't be mad at me!
Kathy

Bye to all the snowbirds
We will miss our snowbirds as they return to their summer homes.
Please have a safe trip and a great summer…………….remember there is
nothing like our family here in Southfork and it becomes so quiet when
you leave and we can’t stand it without you. It’s like losing a part of a
family and we count the days until you all start back!!!
See you back here in the Fall and be ready for all the activities, entertainment and card games when
you get back. It’s so much fun when everyone finally gets back home!
Remember to keep in touch on the latest with our facebook page and emails.

All enjoyed another Taco Tuesday at
Southfork. Hard and soft tacos, all
the fillings needed, chips and cheese,
salsa, sour cream, and soft drinks.
As you can see, many enjoyed the hard
work the girls put into this event.
Thanks for the effort girls, can we do
it again, oh, and the 50/50 is fun!
Especially if one is lucky!

Lines waiting for their food items!
A wonderful Easter celebration was enjoyed by Southfork residents and guests.
Our President, Tom Geyer, lead us in a prayer, being thankful for all we
enjoy in our community. Friends, family and social gatherings, and thanking
our Lord for this Easter Celebration.
Then the announcement was made, ladies, remove your tops (food covers that
is), and the festivities began.
Ham and a wonderful variety of delicious entrees were served with each
resident bringing that special dish we all enjoy. Desserts were the best.
I for one am thankful for the opportunity to join such a wonderful group of
friends and neighbors. Committee, thanks for all the hard work. Very much
appreciated.
He Is Risen Today. Amen!

Hotdogs and Desserts…ummmmmmmm
Another wonderful day was spent at our Annual Shuffleboard Tournament. Many
teams participated. Three emerged winners, but, trust me, we had NO losers.
As a spectator, listening to the ooohhhsss, and aaahhhsss, it was so
exciting. Is he in the KITCHEN, maybe, let me check. Friends and neighbors
gathering for fun, wonderful refreshments, thanks Ron and Ed for your hard
work.
Ladies, desserts were yummy! I have attended ten such tournaments and each
is exciting as the last. Great job, Pete and Dixie, ran smoothly as usual.
See you next year.
Neighbor Watch Alert
Just a word to the wise………………Do you have a “ watch code” with your neighbors in case of an
emergency? This is especially for those that live alone and a sort of a “watch out for one another”.
A suggestion would be for each neighbor to look out in case any of you need help and this goes for all
residents. If you have a certain window that has a blind you close at dark and open in the morning
when you awake……………well let your neighbor know that if it Is not opened by a certain time in the
morning to immediately call you to make sure everything is okay. Make a plan as to whom your
neighbor should call if this should happen. Should they be able to enter your home or should 911 be
called? It has been noted that many who live alone do not wear a “life alert” so that emergency can
be called immediately if help is needed.
There are many here in Southfork who do not interact with neighbors and if it
looks like no one is moving around and their car is still in the driveway, it could
mean trouble. So as a word to the wise…….start an emergency action code to
avoid any problems that can be avoided.
Thanks, Phyllis
To My Friends and Neighbors
We would like to thank you for all the prayers and kindness you
have shown to us in this most difficult time. Your prayers and
good works will be remembered always.
Sincerely, The family of Arthur G. Addington

the Bingo players. It was sponsored by Bright house

Then at break time we had delicious Pizza and so much left over. After the break we
continued our Bingo Session and there were big prizes to be won. Come join us on

Mothers Day Motivational
A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?"
"Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you."
The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."
Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life." "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name."
"You will simply call her, 'Mom.'"
