Carla Körbes was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and began her ballet training at age

1996, Peter Boal danced with her as a guest artist of the school and encouraged her to come to New York to study at the School of American Ballet. For the academic year 1997–1998, her tuition was paid by Alexandra Danilova so she could continue studying at the School of American Ballet.

apprentice with New York City Ballet. She joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet in 2000 and was the Janice Levin Dancer Honoree for 2001–2002.

Ballet as a soloist. Ms. Körbes was promoted to principal dancer in 2006.

In 2002, Ms. Körbes performed Richard Tanner's Ancient Airs and Dances for the nationally televised PBS Live from Lincoln Center broadcast, "New York City Ballet's Diamond Project: Ten Years of New Choreography."

Ballet, Ms. Körbes has performed with Peter Boal and Company. In 2007, she performed in the worldwide company debut performance of Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company at the Vail International Dance Festival. She has also performed as a guest artist at the Dance Open gala in St. Petersburg, Russia in April 2010.

Andrea Selby, Festival Illustrator

Ms. Selby considers her art a visual documentation of the process of developing a dance performance, from the initial idea to the opening night. She has been sketching dance rehearsals and shows since she was a child, when she performed in various productions with the New York City Ballet.

Her dance teacher, Madame Alexandra Danillova, encouraged her to use her drawing skills to capture the movement of dance, as Degas did. As an adult, she spent many years working as a professional artist and illustrator. Through her friendship with Wendy Whelan, she observed many contemporary choreographers such as Christopher Wheeldon create ballets with her and realized the importance of documenting dance creation through art. Ideally, she tries to begin with the choreographer's ideas and show, through sketches, the development of a ballet into a polished performance. The world of dance is her artistic inspiration and passion. She believes that her artwork, which is often combined with written quotes heard

Damian Woetzel has once again paired some of the best dancers in the world with some of the greatest musicians. Live music brings a richness to dance, it elevates the art form and the mutual interpretation of the piece allows the musicians respond to the dancer and the dancers to the musicians. Musicians that will be joining the Festival this summer include…

Brooklyn Rider has been hailed as “the future of chamber music” (Strings), the game-changing string quartet Brooklyn Rider presents eclectic repertoire in gripping performances that continue to draw rave reviews from classical, world, and rock critics alike. NPR credits Brooklyn Rider with “recreating the 300-year-old form of string quartet as a vital and creative 21st-century ensemble”; the Los Angeles Times dubs the group “one of the wonders of contemporary music”; and Vice likens its members to “motocross daredevils who never screw up a stunt.” Equally at home in clubs and concert halls, the quartet has played venues as varied as Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, the San Francisco Jazz Festival, Le Poisson Rouge, Japan’s Todai-ji, Lincoln Center, Brooklyn’s Littleeld, the Library of Congress, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, and South by Southwest. Through visionary programming and global collaborations, Brooklyn Rider’s “down-to-earth demeanor… demysties contemporary classical music and invites everyone into the tent” (Time Out New York).

Cameron Grant joined the New York City Ballet in 1984, became a Solo Pianist there 2 years later, and was appointed pianist of the NYCB Orchestra in 1998. He has performed all the major piano ballets of the company such as the Goldberg Variations, Dances at a Gathering, Davidsbundlertanze, and Waltz Project as well as virtually all the piano concerti of the repertory including those of Tchaikovsky, Ravel, Hindemith, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Prokoev and Shostakovich. Mr. Grant has been the soloist in premieres of ballets by Richard Tanner, Robert La Fosse and Christopher Wheeldon, and toured as a featured performer with the company on trips to Paris, Edinburgh, Athens, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Italy, Russia and Denmark. In 2004, he appeared in the Emmy Award-winning Live from Lincoln Center  broadcast of New York City Ballet, as well as being invited (along with 3 other members of NYCB), to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors before the President.

Cristina Pato has already opened historical new paths for the gaita (the Galician bagpipes). In 1998, Ms. Pato became the rst female gaita player to release a solo album, and since then she has collaborated with world music, jazz, classical and experimental artists including the Chicago Symphony, Yo-Yo Ma, The Chieftains, Arturo O'Farril, World Symphony Orchestra, and Paquito D'Rivera.  Gyan Riley was the rst full-scholarship graduate guitar student at the San Francisco Conservatory.  He has completed various compositional projects, including those commissioned by the Carnegie Hall Corporation, the American Composers Forum, and the New York Guitar Festival.  Gyan's diverse work now focuses on his own compositions, improvisation, and contemporary classical repertoire. Recent performance highlights include Carnegie Hall, London’s Barbican Theatre, the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival, the Big Ears Festival, Moogfest, and soloing with the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra at Kimmel Center.  Over the years, Riley has performed throughout Europe, Canada, Latin America and the US, both as a soloist and in various ensembles.  Jon Batiste is considered by many to be one of the most exciting and progressive new crossover talents on the scene today. A “Movado Future Legend” award recipient, and a “Steinway Performing Artist”, Jon has performed in innumerable prestigious events and venues across the world. His modern take on the American songbook, through the channels of a virtuosic pedigree in jazz and classical music, is attracting critical acclaim as well as audiences across all demographics. Together with his band Stay Human, Jon is creating a unique grassroots movement that encourages accessibility and appreciation in the art of the live performance. Apart from his natural focus, Jon is also a noted advocate for music education (Traveling Ambassador for Music Unites, Associate Artistic Director for the National Jazz Museum) and a regular gure in television and lm (HBO’s Treme, Spike Lee’s “Red Hook Summer”).
