The New Year Brings New Adventures

Indeed, inside on these pages, you’ll find we’ve been hard at work during the holiday season. There are spiffy new itineraries to favorite destinations like Victoria and the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque; plus exciting new places to visit. Patricia has announced the annual Laguna Pageant itinerary for the summer, and Ramona’s Copper Canyon trip last fall was so successful, she is planning a return visit this October.

River cruises have become an extremely popular way to see Europe. Our spring Rhine River excursion is sold out, and now we have Portugal and part of western Spain on the Douro River in the fall.

Clayton has two terrific new tours, one highlighting the age-old battle between the Hatfields and the McCoys. The REAL families. Head to West Virginia on a fall

Just One Man’s OpinionSo You Want to be a

Tour Director? For most of my adult life, one of my

occasional job descriptions has been “Tour Director.” My friends and family probably think I spend my days laying on the beach, carousing the cocktail establishments well into the night, or whatever. Of course, they have no idea what the responsibilities might be. They are many, but the benefits are many also. And while about one day a year an itinerary does afford me an afternoon on a beach or by a pool; and I do attend the drag show in a nightclub in Key West once a year… those are truly exceptions. I get to go to a lot of great places, see a lot of wonderful things, travel with some pretty nice people. It’s a great way to make a living, no doubt about it.

But once in a while, the job does have its moments. 24 hour moments. Allow me to explain. Our recent Rose Parade by Plane or Train is a good place to start. I was escorting the ten people flying down to Southern California. Chris Galloway was in charge of the 32 people who were traveling in the private Silver Lariat car on the back of the Coast Starlight, operated by Amtrak. (That last phrase is the most important one in the paragraph… operated by Amtrak.)

I awoke at 3:45am to shower, shave and head to the airport. While still groggy, I open my ipad and pull up the Amtrak web site. Much to my dismay, I find that the train which was 20 minutes late in Oregon when I went to bed, is now 4 hours behind

schedule and still in Oregon. Good that I checked on the train before my shower, because as the overnight cobwebs cleared, I was formulating a plan.

At 5:05am, Chris arrives at my house. (We only take one car to the airport, saves on the high parking fees.) This is an important time to remember, because Chris’ work day is just beginning. It won’t end for 24 hours and 5 minutes. I inform Chris of the train delay and tell him I’ve decided, even though some people have already been picked up, to send them all back home and go back and pick everyone up 4 hours later. (The group is to travel to Oakland to “catch” the train. The private car is hooked to the Amtrak (there’s that word again) train to ride to Los Angeles.

I head to the airport, to meet and greet my ten folks. We fly to LA, go to the Farmer’s Market for a delightful guided tour, make a stop in Hollywood and finally end up at our hotel in Burbank at 3pm. All has gone well for the fly-away group.

H H H H H H H H

The news is not as good for the train group. Four hours late becomes five, then six. The group makes its delayed departure from Sacramento about 10am. Chris and Greg take them on a short tour of Treasure Island to kill time and utilize restroom facilities. The 6 hour delay becomes 7. At roughly 4pm, the group boards the train. At 4:47, the train finally begins the trip to Los Angeles, 8 hours late.

Surely Chris went back home to sleep for those four hours before the restart, right?

Well, no. Chris went to the office to pick up supplies to stock the bus, knowing that if Amtrak didn’t make it for some reason, the group would be traveling to LA by SuperCoach and would need supplies. That’s what you do as a Tour Director, you plan for possible scenarios and try to create options. Chris and Greg were doing just that. Meanwhile, Clayton and Kevin were checking out possible things for people to do in Oakland while waiting on the train, and possible meal stops if the bus has to travel all the way to LA.

I speak to Chris and he says even though they aren’t making up time like our Amtrak friends (?) had planned, the train is moving in a forward direction. Meanwhile, the winds are howling in Burbank. Power goes out in part of the city twice, palm trees are down on I-5. I’m sitting there, about 9pm, thinking I’m about to hear from Chris at any moment, telling me they are stuck in Ventura with a tree across the tracks. But the call/text doesn’t come.

On the train, the folks have been wined and dined in style. Burt and his crew know how to take care of people, and our gang was pretty hungry, having had nothing but snacks all day. The beverages flow and soon the parade-goers are all dozing as the train makes its way to Southern California.

H H H H H H H H

At 3:45am, my phone buzzes bedside. (I’d love to tell you I was waiting up for them, but who are we kidding, I was sound asleep.) It’s Chris, telling me they are on the bus and heading for the hotel. I get up, hop in the shower for a minute to wash out the cobwebs (wait a minute, wasn’t that how this story started, in the shower) and head downstairs to meet the bedraggled travelers. We have double and triple checked the keys, and because of the late (early?) hour, folks are taking their own bags to their rooms. Fifteen minutes after the bus pulls into the hotel driveway, the last traveler heads to the elevator.

Chris and I go over the morning schedule. We are scheduled for a tour and lunch at the Reagan Library. We create a new schedule,

flyaway tours are priced to include airfare out of Reno and Las Vegas in addition to Sacramento. Our Nevada travelers even enjoy personalized limousine service to and from their homes just like those living in the greater Sacramento area. If you have friends living in the Reno, Carson City or Las Vegas metropolitan areas, do them and us a favor by signing them up for a trial Travel Club membership. We’ll all thank you for it!

Thank you times two – For the second year, Sports Leisure travelers spending “Thanksgiving in New York” and seeing Kinky Boots enjoyed a very special treat, but first I have to give you the back story. The behind-the-scenes gentleman providing sound, video, lights and technical support for all our big events is Jon Canaan (Canaan Sound & Light, West Sacramento). A few years ago following one of my passionate appeals for travelers to join us on one of our New York trips, Jon said rather casually, “You know, my brother is on Broadway.” Shortly thereafter, I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Canaan. Paul is not just on Broadway. He’s an Angel in the 2013 Tony Award winner for Best Musical and serves as Assistant Dance Captain in this, his sixth Broadway show. In his spare time he oversees a national theatre arts alliance called Take It From The Top which exposes young people to the joys of a hobby or even a career in theatre. For two years now, Paul has made it possible for our travelers to enjoy a post-performance

Clayton PlaceHappy New Year!

I’m Alabamy Bound! The words of the old Al Jolson tune perfectly match my news today. As long-time travelers know, I am a Georgia native and take great pride in planning and escorting most of the Southern tours we offer. When a 2015 tour to Alabama was first proposed in planning meetings last year, I had to bow out due to an anticipated conflict. That conflict has now evaporated and I’m happy to say I’ve taken over the trip. Won’t you join me on April 18-24? We begin in the space city of Huntsville, then head down through the heartland visiting the communities of Selma, Tuskegee, Birmingham and the capital city of Montgomery, so rich in Civil Rights history. The tour ends on the Gulf Coast in the seaside community of Fairhope. We depart out of Mobile, but not before visiting world-famous Bellingrath Gardens, resplendent in the beauty of azaleas and other springtime bloomers. Unlike “The Colorful Carolina Coast” and other Southern standards, this tour will not be repeated in the foreseeable future. If Alabama is on your “to do” list, don’t miss this opportunity to see all the best she has to offer! Find the complete day-by-day itinerary in Escape or online at www.sportsleisure.com.

Over the Hill – For the past couple of years, you may have noticed the flyaway trips in the catalog generally include a small icon of the Silver State and the words “Nevada Approved.” Ever wondered what this means? In 2012, we were granted “vendor status” at Del Webb Sierra Canyon, just west of Reno. We now have a satellite travel club there boasting over 50 members! All our

Thanks, Paul, for all your efforts on our behalf. We’re proud to have another fine Canaan in our travel family! Just wondering if there’s another sibling I need to meet???

Ralph Bunn is becoming a familiar name to many of you. Not only is he frequently out on tour, but he’s also our Blueberry Photographic Society Grand Prize winner for 2014. Ralph recently joined me on “A Tender Tennessee Christmas.” Following, he offered to make a souvenir disc for everyone including still photography set to music as well as selected video clips from the six concerts we attended. Ralph produced the presentation, copied the discs, even packed them for mailing. All he asked of me was the postage. I had the treat of watching the disc last night with one of our fellow travelers and it was brilliant! From a grateful Tennessee Christmas group: Thank you, Ralph, for your time, talent and friendship!

Dear Sirs:Please route this thank-you to the proper

persons – Mark & Clayton. I was given 2 tickets to the Music Circus by calling in to the Travel Guys radio show a couple of weeks ago. It was my pleasure to attend La Cage Aux Follies with a neighbor who has been such a good helpful friend. What a delightful treat! We enjoyed the show so much, so a very sincere Thank You. Sincerely,Pat Biasotti

Dear Santas,What a pleasant surprise to take home

two beautiful poinsettias at the end of a most pleasant visit to Oakdale and vicinity. We gave one of the beauties to a neighbor who has often surprised us, for example, with a bag of mandarin oranges! Thank you again and again! Sincerely,EB & JW Maynard

Dear Mark,On behalf of Bev’s Angel Project I want to

thank you for your generous donation of toys and sports balls again this year. Thank you for delivering all the gifts to us in November. We feel truly blessed to have the support of so many wonderful people who believe in what we do.

With the support of a generous community and wonderful volunteers we service over 3,000 children during each holiday season. We provide the children with blankets, stuffed stockings, age appropriate toys, gloves, socks, and stuffed animals as well as games, books, and school supplies. This was our biggest giving year ever.

Mrs. Claus and her volunteers go to schools, shelters, hospitals and more, and brighten the lives of children and families who are less fortunate than ourselves. If you could see the happy faces on the children it would warm your heart. Angel Hugs,Jan Strickland, President

ed. Note: For the last two years, our company Christmas gathering has included donating to Bev’s Angel Project. Our good friend and longtime traveler Irene Potter introduced us to the group. They make a lot of kids happy at Christmas.

Mark:I thought you might be interested in this

article we recently received in a travel brochure. We have been to the “Gateway Canyons” twice with Sports Leisure and remember the place fondly.Herb & Kathy Willstatter

PS – I was particularly impressed with the $450 a night price tag!!!

ed. Note: Wow. $450. When Gateway Canyons (about an hour from Grand Junction, CO) opened a decade or so ago, we were able to get rooms, through a connection in the GJ Convention Bureau, for only about $150 a night. They are nice rooms and it’s a beautiful place, but I can’t imagine paying $450 a night. Guess we were wise to get there ahead of the crowds.

Dear Mark and Clayton,Thank you for your support and for

helping us to continue our mission. Without your help, we would not be able to fly our little VIP’s in need of long distance travel to their life saving treatments and surgeries. I am very honored by your donation, and really appreciate your caring. Thanks also for the radio interview, and the link on your webpage. Thanks again and God Bless.Douglas Harding, President and Chief PilotHope Flight Foundation

Dear Travelers:I cannot find words to express my

appreciation. Winning the Chuck evans Scholarship is a tremendous help in propelling myself through undergrad school. Thank you to everyone involved for your support and kindness. Best,Shelby Knight

ed. Note: Shelby was the winner of our annual scholarship, presented at Tour Preview Day. If you know of a college student who could use the financial assistance, we award $2,000 each Preview Day. Previous applicants are welcome to apply again (Shelby won on her second try), and new applications are accepted. For details, email [email protected] or write him a letter and mail it to the office.

Dear Clayton,Thank you for choosing our Senior Safe

ed. Note: The last two thank you notes are from two of the beneficiaries of your $10 Tour Preview admission fees. Sports Leisure Travelers making a difference in the community, one ten dollar bill at a time.

Hi Clayton and Mark – I hope all is well with the two of you.

Wanted to ask you to remove my mom, Doris Pike, from your mailing list. She passed away last spring at the age of 96 after a long and happy life. She always enjoyed traveling with the two of you. I thank you greatly for that. All the best!Gary Pike, APR

Dear Clayton:We recently received DVDs from Ralph

Bunn, one of our fellow travelers on your “Tender Tennessee Christmas” tour. Through his generosity we were able to relive our most enjoyable journey through Clarksville and Nashville. Perhaps he can be thanked for a much appreciated “job well done” in the next Sports Leisure Traveler? Also, many thanks to you Clayton for a great itinerary that successfully put us in the holiday spirit. Sincerely,Dick and Marie McClellan

HOT OFF THe PReSS: As the paper goes through the rotary printing press friction causes it to heat up. Therefore, if you grab the paper right off the press it is hot. The expression means to get immediate information.A SHOT OF WHISKeY: In the old west a .45 cartridge for a six-gun cost 12 cents, so did a glass of whiskey. If a cowhand was low on cash he would often give the bartender a cartridge in exchange for a drink. This became known as a “shot” of whiskey.PASSING THe BuCK/THe BuCK STOPS

HeRe: Most men in the early west carried a jack knife made by the Buck Knife Company. When playing poker it was common to place one of these Buck Knives in front of the dealer so that everyone knew who he was. When it was time for a new dealer, the deck of cards and the knife were given to the new dealer. If this person didn’t want to deal he would “pass the buck” to the next player. If that player accepted, then “the buck stopped there.”RIFF RAFF: The Mississippi River was the main way of traveling from north to south. Riverboats carried passengers and freight but they were expensive so most people used rafts. Everything had the right of way over rafts which were considered cheap. The steering oar on the rafts was called a “riff” and this transposed into riff-raff, meaning low class.COBWeB: The Old English word for “spider” was “cob.”SHOWBOAT: These were floating theaters built on a barge that was pushed by a steamboat. These played small towns along the Mississippi River. Unlike the boat shown in the movie “Showboat” these did not have an engine. They were gaudy and attention

grabbing which is why we say someone who is being the life of the party is “showboating.”CuRFeW: The word “curfew” comes from the French phrase “couvre-feu,” which means “cover the fire.” It was used to describe the time of blowing out all lamps and candles. It was later adopted into Middle English as “curfeu,” which later became the modern “curfew.” In the early American colonies homes had no real fireplaces so a fire was built in the center of the room. In order to make sure a fire did not get out of control during the night it was required that, by an

agreed upon time, all fires would be covered with a clay pot called a “curfew.”HOGWASH: Steamboats carried both people and animals. Since pigs smelled so bad they would be washed before being put on board. The mud and other filth that was washed off was considered useless “hog wash.”BARGe IN: Heavy freight was moved along the Mississippi in large barges pushed by steamboats. These were hard to control and would sometimes swing into piers or other boats. People would say they “barged in.”

Couple of things worth a mention. Kudos to our travelers on the train. When they came into the hotel, no one said a cross word. Some even smiled and said thank you. What a class act the entire group was. And then there was the Tour Director. From the comments directed to me, sounded like they thought their leader had held the day together. With a little help from his friends, Chris had completed a 24-hour shift as Tour Director. One final comment. If you are ever on a schedule to get somewhere, don’t call Amtrak. Train travel is timeless, I’ve heard people say. Now I know what that means. It means you don’t know when you are leaving or when you will get there. Timeless. And so it goes…

Mexico’s Copper Canyon Region by RailExplore ancient traditions, indigenous cultures and majestic beauty10 Days • October 20 – October 29

The Copper Canyon is one of the biggest and most impressive canyon systems in the entire world with vertical rock walls thousands of feet high, waterfalls that drop dramatically from the rim, and canyons

that are wider and deeper than the Grand Canyon in Colorado, filled with trees and vegetation… And it is in this majestic yet difficult landscape that the Tarahumara people have lived for centuries... Join Ramona as you visit with the Tarahumara artisans, the Mennonite farmers, and gaze in awe at the grandeur of the sweeping canyon views from the train.

1. Your journey begins with convenient airport transportation from your home as you embark on your trip spanning the border, cultures and traditions. Dinner and accommodations the first evening are in El Paso. Hilton Garden Inn (D)

2. Cross the Rio Grande River and enter Mexico at Juarez, a bustling border town alive with the sights and sounds of two nations. Visit the Baroque cathedral, the 18th-century aqueduct, and drive by beautifully restored colonial homes. Visit the Museum of the Revolution housed in the former home of Pancho Villa, hero of the Revolution, to learn the story of Mexico’s fight for freedom. The Barber Pole, or Once Over Lightly

We Say “Happy Trails” to a Friend

The last few months have been a chaotic whirlwind for Merrill Mixer and her husband Steve. They have been selling and giving away possessions, storing keepsakes, and packing their bags for an exciting new adventure! They have wanted to live a simpler life abroad so they decided to take the big step and do it now rather than later. Merrill’s husband has served as a pastor, and changes at his church opened a window and they decided to move up their retirement plans a bit.

Merrill says, “We didn’t want to look back and have regrets.” They hope to travel slowly – renting apartments and living as locals instead of as tourists, to experience big city living and village life, picturesque mountain towns, tranquil countryside and coastal beach communities. There is only a loose framework of an itinerary – very hard for a Tour Planner!

In February they head for South America to explore Ecuador and Colombia for 15 weeks before they take an Alaskan cruise with family. June 6th they fly to Portugal, their gateway to Europe. “Without a return ticket, we have no idea where we’ll head next, hopefully we’ll continue traveling East through Asia and Oceania before we return to the USA.” Merrill invites you to follow her on her blog: www.MeetYouInTheMorning.

wordpress.com – or on her Facebook page: Meet You in the Morning Travel.

On behalf of the team at Sports Leisure,

we wish Merrill and Steve the best. Merrill has become a valued contributor and we absolutely are going to miss her. Perhaps our paths will cross again on life’s journey. In the meantime, bon voyage, we will follow your adventure online (and maybe talk to you on The Travel Guys down the road). Thank you Merrill, you will forever be a part of the Sports Leisure family.

Gold Passport Members will receive a detailed chart of the new awards, along with an updated account statement of your points, in mid-February.

A Note About Last Minute Changes in Home Pickups

We need your help with something. Pick-up schedules for trips offering door-to-door service are prepared approximately two weeks prior to departure. This is a very time consuming process, figuring out who goes in which car, what size car goes on which route, timing between stops, etc. It is a

mammoth job each and every time.

Here’s the challenge we need your help with: When you call us within two weeks of departure and say, “Oh, by the way, my traveling partner wants to be picked up at my house.” Or, “I didn’t tell you this when we registered, but we live in two different addresses and my traveling partner needs to be picked up in Elk Grove and I live in Roseville.”

Changing one person can set off a chain reaction that causes the entire group to have to be re-dispatched. You can help us by

calling the office at least two weeks prior

to departure with any changes in home

pickup locations.

Changes Announced for the Gold Passport Program

Our frequent Traveler program, designated as Gold Passport, will have some changes coming June 1, 2015. All Gold Members with Gold Passport balances will receive a detailed notice of the changes in February.

The program is now over 20 years old. No changes have ever been made to the award chart, despite the fact it is now 50% easier to get to the big prize on the award chart. For the program to be financially viable, some changes must be made. We are notifying you now to give you a chance to use your points at the old levels. These changes will

only impact awards at the 40,000 point

level or higher. Awards below that amount will be unchanged.

The reason for the changes are somewhat mathematical. Actually, changes should have been made every 5 years or so, to adjust for inflation. This is because our program offers a “balloon” award at the top level. The new top level will be 70,000 points. There will be new awards at 50,000 and 60,000 points. The award at 40,000 will increase slightly with the new chart and the 50,000 point award will decrease. The top award will be $3,000 as opposed to the old $2,500.

Our New York guide is a police officer, and we actually visit police and fire stations in The Bronx, to meet some of the city’s first-responders, and get unique souvenirs. 6 meals (3L,3D), 3850/4550 Gold Passport Points, and experienced Tour Directors who can enhance your experience (Chris Galloway

and Mark Hoffmann). Please note: While we welcome all

travelers, realistically, this trip requires some walking in the

6 Days July 13-18 Oregon – Covered Bridges

and The Coast

First offered last year, this itinerary was a huge hit and it’s filling up quickly. Based on feedback, we expanded the trip by a day, adding an extra night in Newport. Fly to Portland, dine in Salem, then visit a unique carousel-making facility in Albany. A true behind-the-scenes experience. Accommodations feature 2 nights in Cottage Grove at the Village Green Resort, and 3 nights in Newport at the elizabeth Street Inn (ocean views from every room). Attractions include a Victorian costume shop, a chocolate store, a cruise on Newport Harbor and a private dinner at the Oregon Aquarium, a visit to the tiny hamlet of Toledo, the Hatfield Marine Science Center and even a trip to Lincoln City, where you are treated to glass blowing and a culinary demonstration which becomes your lunch! Tillamook is the last stop (if you don’t count the berry farm – bring some really wonderful berries home with you), for some cheese tasting and lunch. 14 meals (5B,6L,3D), door-to-door service, airfare, 2000/2250 Gold Passport Points, Tour Directors: Mark and Chris. $1970 p.p./dbl.occ., $2250 single

The legendary “jammer” touring cars take you through Glacier to Waterton Lakes in Canada. the Rocky Mountaineer

Rated the most scenic train ride in North America, the two days you spend on the Rocky Mountaineer will take you from Vancouver, into the spectacular Rocky Mountains. See lots from the train, then enjoy a land package featuring Banff, Lake Louise and the Columbia Icefields. Fly to Vancouver, overnight, then ride the rails for two days (overnight off the train in Kamloops), next is 2 nights in magnificent Jasper and a night each in Banff and Lake Louise (at the Chateau). The Rockies are not an inexpensive destination in the summer, but this package has many upscale features. Accommodations on board the Rocky Mountaineer are in Silver Leaf class (one higher class is available for upgrade, but in our opinion, this selection offers the best quality and value for the dollar). Fly home from Calgary. 10 meals, door-to-door service, 6000/7150 Gold Passport Points. $5990 p.p./dbl.occ., $7140

10 Days Aug. 15-24 A Very Special “Downton” Abbey

This visit to Great Britain is unlike any other. Compare it to other itineraries with the same features. But make sure Brand X stays in a castle for 6 nights. That might make a difference in the price. Check the included meals and features. Is airfare part of the package like it is here? Summer airfare to London is very pricy.

This wonderul itinerary is full of castles and cathedrals. It features the opportunity to tour Highclere Castle and many of the other sites used in the filming of the PBS series Downton Abbey. Spend 6 nights in a castle, spectacular Herndon Hall in the English countryside. Visit Stratford-Upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare. 5 Days Aug. 12-16 All Around the Olympic

Peninsula

Our resident Tree-Hugger, Ramona Goodge, declares this to be one of her favorite trips. It features an extended look at one of our most interesting and diverse national parks, Olympic. From the beaches to the mountaintop, the scenery is spectacular. Fly to Portland, stopping in Astoria, on old seaport with stories to go with the history. The Maritime Museum is one of the best in the country.

Then it’s on to Olympic National Park, spending your second night at the Lake Quinalt Lodge. Eat in the Roosevelt Dining Room. Visit the rainforest, the beaches and stand on Hurricane Ridge, 5,242 feet above sea level. Lakes, forests, mountain wildflowers, no wonder Ramona likes it here so much. Stops in the towns of Poulsbo and Long Beach are also featured. 10 meals (4FB,5L,1D), door-to-door service, airfare to Portland/from Seattle, 2500/2800 Gold Passport Points. $2450 p.p./dbl.occ., $2795 single

6 Days Aug. 25-30 The Tapestry of Vancouver

Island

Speaking of the resident Tree-Hugger, here’s a brand new itinerary from Ramona. Vancouver Island is more than just Victoria. In fact, this itinerary does not provide more than a glimpse of that magnificent city, and instead shows you the rest of the island. Fly to Vancouver and catch the ferry to Nanaimo. After an overnight, head for the west coast of the island and the town of Tofino.

The paved road has only gone to Tofino for 40 years, so it’s an unspoiled region. Stay 2 nights at the Tin Wis Resort. Visit old growth forests, beautiful gardens and visit a local tea room. Back on the east side, travel the Comox and Cowichan Valleys, on to Chemainus and Duncan, home of magnificent murals and totem poles respectively. Depart from Sidney, but first, there’s time for a two hour tour of Victoria, so first-time visitors can see the city (note: the tour does not stop at Butchart Gardens due to time limitations). 9 meals (5FB,4L), door-to-door service, 3250/3650 Gold Passport Points, airfare to Vancouver/from Victoria. $3245 p.p./dbl.occ.,

6 Days Sept. 9-14 The Redwoods of the North

Coast & The Rogue River

Jet Boats

Head for the California coast near Eureka, to “meet” the Coastal Redwoods. Then travel on into Oregon for the opportunity to ride the jet boats that deliver the mail to remote locations on the Rogue River. Walk through ancient redwood groves, enjoy ocean view accommodations for 2 nights in Oregon (Brookings), travel the famous “Avenue of the Giants” and ride through Redwood Nat’l Park. Stroll the Sundial Bridge in Redding. The package includes 13 meals, door-to-door service and 2100/2450 Gold Passport Points. Tour Director: Ramona Goodge. $2080 p.p./dbl.occ.,

6 Days Sept. 10-15 Ferries and Towns of

Puget Sound

Year after year, this is one of our most popular itineraries. Our featured Pacific Northwest tour got a new look last year, as we moved from the San Juan Islands for 2 nights to Anacortes, and the beautifully modernized Majestic Hotel. We still go flightseeing in the San Juan Islands and visit all the wonderful little towns along our route. In order, from Poulsbo to Port Townsend, on Whidby Island from Coupeville to Langley, on to La Conner, Anacortes and Friday and Roche Harbors in the San Juan Islands. This really is the perfect tour, visiting and shopping In small towns, a leisurely pace, often hitting some of the best weather of the year in Puget Sound, and without the summer crowds.

Overnight in Poulsbo, 2 nights on Whidbey Island, 2 nights at the Majestic Hotel in Anacortes. 11 meals (2FB,3B,3L,3D), door-to-door service, airfare to/from Seattle, 3100/3350 Gold Passport Points. Tour Director(s): Mark and/or Chris. Important

notes about the ferry boats: Many of the boats have elevators for passengers, but some offer stairs as the only way to access

the passenger deck. Those with mobility issues are requested to discuss them with our staff prior to registering. $3080 p.p./dbl.
