It has been an exciting couple of years leading up to this point, and we couldn’t be more proud of the set of bulls we have to offer you. As

you may know, we purchased half of the Top Grade Red Angus herd, and this op-

portunity has been a fun experience so far, we have learned a lot and we know there’s more to learn. The Rooke Ranch has been at Pollockville for over 100 years, so the cattle industry is who we are, and for over twenty years we have been Top Grade customers ourselves, so we knew what kind of cattle we were getting, quality. As a commercial pro-ducer, we always valued a bull with lon-gevity, accuracy, and profitable genetics for both the feeder and replacement ani-mals; we don’t feel there is room on any ranch, purebred or commercial for be-low average animals. We feel because of our own high standards, your purchase of a Rebel Creek Angus bull will provide you with long term satisfaction, and we promise that every year we will only im-prove.

Every Rebel Creek bull is sire verified,

and DNA tested with the Zoetis HD50k; what this does is guarantee the pedigree of the animal, and make the bulls EPD’s extremely accurate. By blending conven-tional EPD’s with the DNA test and the animal’s performance, a GE-EPD gives you the information that you deserve so that you know what you are buying. Our bulls have been freeze iron branded with their tattoo numbers for easy iden-tification, no need to retag annually.

Rebel Creek Angus bulls have been wintered on a hay, silage, and light grain ration, with high protein supplement, just like an athlete, and it is our belief that the athletic bull will breed harder, and longer.

registered Hereford cattle for the last 40 years. We sold in the Bulls Eye Select

sale for 25 years until 2004 when we started selling bulls by private treaty. Our focus has always been to raise cattle that have high fertility, good feet, sound udders and moderate framed, function-al traits that keep our cow herd strong.

With the recent purchase of half of the Top Grade Red Angus cow herd we feel we have a very strong set of Hereford and Angus Bulls on Offer. The Hereford bulls have been out grazing until mid-December at which point we started supplementing them with a bit of hay. After the New Year the bulls have been

brought back to the yard still being able to go out and graze but also given free choice hay and 10lbs of protein pellets. These bulls will continue to run out un-til sale time. Most of the Hereford bulls have been 50K tested as well as DNA tested by Quantum Genetics for Leptin.

The Angus bulls have been on a grow-er ration of Barley silage, supplement and about 7-9 lbs. of grain. The An-gus bulls have all been DNA tested by Quantum Genetics for Leptin.

u All sales shall be final and binding. Any dispute shall be settled by the auctioneer at or before time of sale

u Payment of livestock sold during the sale shall be paid to Bow Slope Shipping Association in full, on sale day, unless prior arrang-ments have been made.

u Transfer and Registration papers will be paid by the seller, and that no costs of the same be incurred by the purchaser.

u All bulls are guarenteed to have passed a semen test preformed by a licensed veterinarian and be a sound breeder.

u Any bull that has not yet passed a semen test at the time of sale will be declared by the breeder on sale day. We ask that you allow us to bring these bulls back to our ranch at our cost until they have passed a semen test. If the bull does not pass a semen test the full amount of the bull will be refunded. We will provide, or assist in finding a replacement bull if you require one.

u Consigners will not be liable for more than the purchase price of the bull.

u Any bulls taken home on sale day will be credited $75.

u We will deliver your bull free within 250km of Brooks, AB, please speak to us or Bow Slope on sale day for delivery instructions.

u We will take any bull back to our ranch at no cost for up to 30 days after the sale, after 30 days if you are unable to receive your bull(s) a reasonable rate will be charged ; however, we request you have the bull insured for the entire duration your bull remains at our ranch.

u Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of the buyers and public, neither the sales management, auctioneer, association or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability, legal or otherwise in the event of damage or loss of property, or injury.

Gemstone Hereford BullsSelecting for moderate, efficient, easy keeping cattle is what we have done for many years. The development of gene testing for some important economic traits have added some tools available to compare and indicate which animals will be more efficient. The genomic research we have been involved in suggests our program is working.The presence of Leptin results in cattle that maintain body condition more easily and cows that have a longer productive life, weaning heavier calves. We tested our Hereford cows for the Leptin gene and found that 87% of the herd was TT for Leptin when the average within the Hereford breed was 32% TT for Leptin.More recently we have participated in the Canadian Hereford Association Residual Feed Intake(RFI) project measuring Net Feed Efficiency. RFI EPDs have been generated on over 900 Hereford bulls to date. Preliminary results indicate that we may be on the right track. 26 of our bulls have had RfI ePDs generated in this project with 23 bulls (88%) ranking in the top 18% of all bulls tested for net feed efficiency. The higher the number the more probability that his calves will be born unassisted. This EPD best describes the shape of the calf, a low BW and low CED could mean a calf with bigger head and shoulders.Weaning Weight (WW) ePD: expressed in pounds at weaning, it is an indicator of growth from birth to

weaning (205 days of age). The calf’s growth during this period is influenced by its own ability to grow plus its mother’s maternal abilities. The higher the EPD, the heavier, on average, the calves will be at weaning.Yearling Weight (YW) ePD: expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a weight at 365 days old. The higher the EPD, the heavier, on average, the calves will be at yearling.Milk ePD: is an indicator of milking ability in daugh-ters. It represents the differences in weaning weights of calves due to the amount of milk produced by their mothers. It is expressed in pounds of calf weaned. The higher the EPD the more weaning pounds a sires daughters will add to her calves via milk.Calving ease Maternal (CeM) ePD: is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater probability of

unassisted births in first-calf daughters

Total Maternal ePD: is a combination of the wean-ing weight and milk EPDs. This EPD represents the differences in weaning weights between calves due to mothering and milking ability of their dams.

Ribeye Area (ReA) ePD: The larger the EPD the larger the expected rib eye area.

Marbling (Marb) ePD: The higher the EPD the more intramuscular fat expected in the rib eye of a sire’s calves.

Carcass Weight (CW) ePD: This EPD predicts differences in the average hot carcass weight in progeny.

fat ePD: expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in back fat thickness at the 12th rib. The higher the EPD the more back fat expected on a sires calves.

All Rebel Creek Angus and Gemstone Hereford bulls have been given the Zoetis HD 50K DNA test, it is our belief you will be happier with your purchase having all the available information provided for you.. This has been done to increase the accuracies of the EPD’s to provide a GE-EPD, which can be up to 3 times more accurate than regular EPD’s. The percent rank (against other Red Angus bulls) has been provided in parenthisis after the GE-EPD for your convience.

Example if a bull has a GE-EPD of BW: -4.2 (15) The GE-EPD is -4.2, and his Zoetis Percentile Rank is 15%

High Density (HD) 50K percent ranks are based on the animal’s Molecular Value Predictions (MVP) for each trait as compared to the reference population of tested Angus animals. Rank values indicate the “top” position of the animal in the population, for example 10 indicates an animal is in the “top” 10 percentile of the breed for the trait.

Birth Weight (BW): Quantifies genetic differences in birth weight. Percentile rankings closest to 1 indicate the genetic potential to throw lighter calves.Calving ease Direct (CeD): Describes differences in genomic merit for the likelihood of unassisted births in first-calf heifers. Lower rank values are preferred, especially for use on replacement heifers for easier calving. This is a much stronger indicator for calving ease than birth weight.Weaning Weight (WW): Lower rank values indicate heavier weaning weights.Yearling Weight (YW): Lower rank values indicate heavier yearling weights.Milk (MILK): Lower ranks equate to higher levels of milk. For many production situations, intermediate ranks for milk are likely optimum,given associated feed requirements and impact on expressed repro-ductive performance.Calving ease Maternal (CeM): Lower rank values indicate genetics for heifers that calve more easily.

Ribeye Area (ReA): Lower ranks for ribeye area indi-cate genetic potential for bigger ribeyes. Marbling (MARB): Lower ranks indicating higher lev-els of marbling.Carcass Weight (CW): Lower percentile rank num-bers indicate higher hot carcass weight in terms of pounds. fat Thickness (fAT): Communicates genetic dif-ferences in fat thickness measured adjacent to the ribeye between the 12th and 13th rib, at a constant age. Lower percent ranks indicate genetics for leaner carcasses. Tenderness (TnD): Indicates differences in genetic merit for tenderness based on the amount of shear force required to slice through cooked steak samples. Lower rank values indicate less shear force required and more desirable cooked meat tenderness. Dry Matter Intake (DMI): Quantifies genetic differ-ences among animals for feed intake, in the feedyard, while consuming finishing rations. Lower ranks equate to genetic merit for lower dry matter intake.

Residual feed Intake (RfI): Describes genetic vari-ation in dry matter consumed per day, as compared to expected feed consumption, based on body weight and growth rate. Lower rank values identify genetics for less feed intake for the same amount of weight gain.
