NEW PORTRAIT AF HER MAJESTY QUEEN MARGRTHE II
On special occasions in the Royal House, Danmarks Natio-
nalbank will issue a commemorative coin.
Her Majesty the Queen’s 75th birthday on 16 April 2015
was a special occasion, and therefore a 500-krone silver
coin was issued and a 20-krone coin was issued and put
into general circulation.
By choice of the Queen, the portrait has a personal focus
showing a private side of the Queen without tiara or
jewelry.
The obverse of the coin has been modeled by medalist
Henrik Wiberg at Danmarks Nationalbank. As something
new, he has chosen to show a beautiful, natural and per-
sonal portrait of the Queen in three quarters profile. The
Queen has a present look with a thoughtful and proud
view into both the past and future.
CO M M E M O R AT I V E CO I N – H E R M A J E S T Y T H E QU E E N ’ S 7 5 T H B I RT H DAY

Jeanette Skov Jensen at Danmarks Nationalbank. She has
designed a personal coin inspired by the Queen’s beautiful
watercolors with motives from Denmark. The motif chan-
ges between horizon and vertical lines, the weather, and
daytime and seasons – and as ”an extra layer” the Queen’s
personal signature is shown.

16
As from 2014 Nationalbanken, the Royal Danish Mint has reintroduces the old
tradition of including the initials of the mint master (Jørgen Strandgaard) and
the medallist (Henrik Wiberg) on the coins. The initials are placed on the coins
front left and right of the year.
Every year, the annual coin set are issued in two qualities. A coin set for
children is issued as well. The coins comprises the six coins in the Danish coin
series and they are minted with several strokes and are thus much more clea-
rly embossed than the ordinary coins in circulation.
