20 PA-1000 Pennsylvania Property Tax or Rent Rebate Program

My Fellow Pennsylvanians:

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is one of many valuable programs benefiting older residents funded through the Pennsylvania Lottery. Hundreds of thousands of olderPennsylvanians and residents with disabilities benefit from rebates of up to $975 each year.

The Pennsylvania Lottery, which has funded property tax relief for seniors since the early 1970s,remains the only lottery in the nation that devotes all proceeds to programs that benefit olderresidents. Since its inception, the Lottery has contributed more than $25.8 billion to programsthat have grown to include the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program, a free and reduced-fare publictransit program, the low-cost prescription drug programs PACE and PACENET, long-term careservices and the 52 Area Agencies on Aging that serve all 67 counties, as well as hundreds offull- and part-time senior community centers across the state.

All of these programs and services are part of Pennsylvania’s commitment to ensuring healthier, happier lives for its 2.9 million older residents.

In fiscal year 2013-14, on an average day, the Lottery helped provide seniors with nearly 24,700prescriptions, over 105,000 transit rides, nearly $904,000 in care services and more than 22,800hot meals.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate program is available to qualified older Pennsylvanians and permanently disabled residents. If you think a friend, neighbor or family member may qualifyfor a rebate, tell them about the program. It’s a benefit they deserve, and I do not want a singlesenior to miss out on the help they need.

Sincerely,

TOM WOLF
