HEAD COACH RODNEY HARMON
RODNEY HARMONHEAD COACHSMU, 1983
FOURTH SEASON AT GEORGIA TECH
Georgia Tech hired Rodney Harmon July 3, 2012, as the seventh head women’s
tennis coach in school history.
Harmon has gone 46-30 over the past three seasons as the head coach of the
Yellow Jackets. During his third season on the Flats, Harmon led his team to a 17-10
overall record and a 9-5 mark in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets made their 16th
consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the second round, and fi nished
the season ranked #20 in the ITA Rankings. During the ACC Tournament, the Jackets
advanced to their fi fth ACC Championship Title Match before falling to Virginia. Georgia
Tech fi nished the ACC season in sixth and both freshmen Johnnise Renaud and Paige
Hourigan were named to the All-ACC Second Team.
Harmon’s second season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets started off with a bang
after sophomores Megan Kurey and Kendal Woodard won the USTA/ITA National
Indoor Intercollegiate Championships doubles title. The duo also captured the USTA/ITA
Southeast Regional Doubles title during the fall. Kurey and Woodard were ranked as the
number one doubles team in the country on February 11, 2014 and received the #6
seed in the 2014 NCAA doubles championships. Woodard garnered conference honors
for the second season in a row after being named to the All-ACC First Team while Kurey
was named to the All-ACC Second Team.
The Yellow Jackets went 14-10 overall and 9-5 in the ACC during Harmon’s second
year at the helm of the Jackets. Tech closed out the 2014 regular season with an
exciting 4-3 win against No. 1 Duke. The win against the top-ranked team in the country
was the fi rst of Harmon’s career and fourth in the history of the Yellow Jackets. The
Jackets received the six seed in the 2014 ACC Tournament and advanced to the quarter
fi nals before falling to Virginia.
In 2014, Tech received its 15th straight berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Yellow
Jackets defeated Purdue in the fi rst round, 4-0, before falling to overall nine seed
Vanderbilt, 4-2, in the second round.
Harmon had quite the successful fi rst season on the Flats, leading his team to a
15-10 record and a 7-4 mark in the ACC. The Jackets reached its highest ranking of
the season in the ITA rankings at #19 during the week of April 9th. Tech defeated nine
ranked teams, including four that were ranked in the top-25.
Freshman Kendal Woodard was honored on the 2013 All-ACC Women’s Tennis Team
while Elizabeth Kilborn, Megan Kurey and Elizabeth Kurey were all named to the All-ACC
Academic team during Harmon’s fi rst year.
Harmon brings 25 years of player development to the Yellow Jackets with prior
experience in both junior and college tennis. Most recently he served as the director of
tennis at the Deerwood Country Club in Jacksonville, Fla.
“We are very excited to announce Rodney Harmon as the head women’s tennis
coach,” former Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “I am confi dent those who
support Georgia Tech will agree Rodney is the ideal candidate for this position. Rodney
joins us with a wealth of tennis knowledge, a commitment to academics and he is a
family man with strong integrity. The future is exciting for Georgia Tech women’s tennis.”
Harmon was the men’s tennis head coach at the University of Miami from 1995
until 1997 where he brought in the No. 1 recruiting class in 1996, led by No. 1 recruit
Michael Russell. Harmon was the 1996 and 1997 Big East Conference Coach of the
Year during his time with the Hurricanes.
“I am extremely excited to join the Georgia Tech staff,” Harmon said. “Georgia Tech is
an outstanding institution with its strong academic profi le and rich athletic tradition. The
Yellow Jackets have a history of great teams, especially the 2007 team which won the
national title. My goal is to continue to build on the ground work Bryan Shelton built and
for our team to excel both in the classroom and on the court.
“I want to thank Dan Radakovich and Theresa Wenzel for the opportunity to join
Georgia Tech,” Harmon added. “This is one of the best jobs in the country. With the
addition of the Ken Byers Tennis Complex and the support of the administration and the
fans, we will continue to have a team to be proud of.”
The Ken Byers Tennis Complex will have six state-of-the-art indoor courts,
replacing the three indoor courts in the old facility. The indoor facility will be located on
10th Street, will house men’s and women’s coaches’ offi ces, men’s and women’s locker
rooms and a team lounge. Six competition courts will go in near Griffi n Track and four
practice courts will be constructed between the indoor facility and the competition courts.
Harmon left the Hurricanes to re-join the United States Tennis Association training
center headquarters in Boca Raton, Fla., where he advanced to director of men’s tennis.
During his tenure at the USTA, Harmon served as the head coach of the U.S. men’s
tennis team at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Before joining Miami, Harmon spent four years as the USTA national coach where he
coached
future pros including Todd Martin, MaliVai Washington and Alex O’Brien. During his fi rst
stint with the USTA, Harmon served as the U.S. men’s tennis head coach at the 1993
World University Games in Buffalo, N.Y.
Harmon began his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee before transferring
to Southern Methodist University where he graduated from with a Bachelor of Arts in
Broadcast/Film in May, 1983. He was the 1980 NCAA Doubles champion at Tennessee
with Mel Purcell and advanced to the semifi nals of the NCAA Singles Championship.
Harmon and Purcell were the 1980 ITA Doubles Team of the Year and Harmon won the
SEC No. 2 singles title.
After transferring to SMU, Harmon won the 1982 and 1983 Southwest Conference
No. 1 singles title. He was inducted into the ITA Collegiate Tennis Hall of Fame in 2010.
While still a student-athlete at SMU, Harmon advanced to the quarterfi nals at the
1982 U.S. Open with a win over 1980 Australian Open Champion Brian Teacher before
falling to eventual champion Jimmy Connors. Following his successful collegiate career,

CHRISTY LYNCHASSISTANT COACHGEORGIA TECH, 2009
SECOND SEASON AT GEORGIA TECH
Former Yellow Jacket standout Christy Lynch begins her second season as the
assistant women’s tennis coach in 2015-16.
During her fi rst season, the Yellow Jackets went 17-10 overall record and had a 9-5
mark in ACC play. The Yellow Jackets made their 16th consecutive trip to the NCAA
Tournament, advancing to the second round, and fi nished the season ranked #20 in
the ITA Rankings. During the ACC Tournament, the Jackets advanced to their fi fth ACC
Championship Title Match before falling to Virginia.
Lynch, whose maiden name is Striplin, played for the Yellow Jackets from 2005-09
and was a part of one of the most memorable Georgia Tech teams in the history of
the program. During her time on the court for the Jackets, Tech won the 2007 NCAA
National Championship, four ACC titles and two team National Indoor titles. Lynch helped
the Yellow Jackets win the 2007 National Championship by winning all six of her singles
matches in the NCAA Championship.
Lynch’s name can be seen throughout the Georgia Tech record book. The
Birmingham, Alabama native’s 117 career singles matches is second all-time at Georgia
Tech and her 68 doubles victories ranks 11th on the career list. Lynch recorded 35
singles wins on the way to the 2007 National Championship, which is the sixth-highest
seasonal mark in Tech history. As a senior in 2008-09, she aided the Yellow Jackets’
fi fth straight NCAA round of 16 appearance, and fi nished off the year with a 30-14
singles record along with a No. 42 national ranking.
Lynch graduated from Georgia Tech in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in
management. Following graduation, Lynch competed as a professional on the Women’s
Tennis Association (WTA) Tour for a year. Lynch returned to the Flats in 2012, serving
as a volunteer assistant coach during Harmon’s fi rst season at the helm of the Jackets.
Lynch was then hired as the assistant coach of the Emory women’s tennis team in
August 2013.
During the 2013-14 season, the Emory Eagles won the 2014 NCAA Division III
Championship while setting a school record for wins in a year with a 28-2 record.
Lynch helped coach the NCAA D-III National Singles Champion, three Division III ITA All-
Americans, the ITA Division III Atlantic South Regional Player of the Year, the ITA Division
III Senior Player of the Year and the UAA MVP and Rookie of the Year. Both Lynch and
Emory head coach Amy Bryant were named the UAA Coaching Staff of the Year. Seven
Eagles were also named to the All-UAA First Team this past season.

ADMINISTRATION
MIKE BOBINSKIATHLETICS DIRECTOR NOTRE DAME, 1979
THIRD YEAR AT GEORGIA TECH
Mike Bobinski, who has successfully directed athletic departments at Akron and
Xavier for a combined 20 years and has worked as a collegiate athletics administrator
for 30 years, embarks on his third year as director of athletics at the Georgia Institute of
Technology.
Bobinski will oversee an athletic department that includes 17 NCAA Division I varsity
sports and is rich with athletic tradition and success.
Just the eighth Georgia Tech director of athletics over the past 110 years, Bobinski
joins the likes of John Heisman, William Alexander, Bobby Dodd and Homer Rice who
have served in the role previously.
Bobinski, whose tenure offi cially began April 1, 2013, served as chair of the NCAA
Division I Men’s Basketball Committee for the 2012-13 season. That successful role
concluded with the 2013 Final Four, which coincidentally was held in Atlanta.
Bobinski came to Georgia Tech after serving 12 years as director of athletics at
Cincinnati’s Xavier University, where he also served as associate vice president. He was
hired as the Musketeers’ director of athletics in 1998 and remained in the role until
2004, when he was named associate vice president for development and oversaw all
of the university’s fundraising efforts, including major gifts, grant services and annual and
planned giving. He returned as athletic director in 2006.
At Xavier, Bobinski headed an athletic program that strived to excel in the classroom
as well as on the playing fi elds and courts. In 2012, Xavier ranked 11th nationally
in Division I Graduation Success Rates at 97 percent. In June of 2012, the National
Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics named Bobinski the Under Armour
Division I Northeast Athletic Director of the Year.
During his tenure, nine of Xavier’s teams and numerous individuals competed in
NCAA championship competitions. That includes men’s basketball, which reached at
least the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in four of the last six years. In the same time span,
25 Xavier teams captured Atlantic 10 Conference championships.
In men’s bas¬ketball, Xavier averaged 25 wins over Bobinski’s 12 years, and earned
a spot in the NCAA Tournament 10 times. The Musketeers advanced to the Elite Eight
in 2004 and 2008. In addition, men’s basket¬ball extended its streak to 88 straight
seniors that graduated. Women’s basketball made runs to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2001
and again in 2010 and in 2011 achieved its highest national ranking in program history
at No. 4.
In 2009, Bobinski hired Chris Mack as men’s basketball head coach. He also hired
Thad Matta as head men’s basketball coach in 2001 and Sean Miller as Xavier’s fi rst
associate head coach. Matta is now head coach at Ohio State and Miller has since
taken over as head coach at Arizona. Bobinski also hired former women’s basketball
coach Kevin McGuff, who spent nine years at Xavier and is now head coach at Ohio
State. He also oversaw the opening of The Cintas Center and other signifi cant facility
projects, including upgrades to soccer and baseball venues and the development of a
golf practice facility.
Prior to joining Xavier, Bobinski served as the University of Akron’s athletic director
from 1994 to 1998. From 1989 to 1994, he was the associate director of athletics
at the U.S. Naval Academy. Prior to that, Bobinski served as the associate and assistant
business manager at the University of Notre Dame from 1984 to 1989.
As a licensed certifi ed public accountant, he fi rst went into accounting with Deloitte,
Haskins and Sell and Arthur Young & Company from 1979-82. He also worked for the
Walt Disney Company in Orlando from 1982-84 before moving into college athletics at
UND in 1984.
Bobinski was hired at Georgia Tech following a three-month, nationwide search. A
seven-member committee led by Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. advised Peterson and identifi ed
candidates. Bobinski took over for Dan Radakovich, who resigned in November (2012).
A native of Yaphank on Long Island, N.Y., Bobinski received his bachelor of business
administration from Notre Dame in 1979, graduating magna cum laude, while playing
four years for the Fighting Irish baseball team.
Bobinski has two children, Melissa, a 2009 Xavier graduate, and Brian, a 2012 Ohio
State graduate.
Theresa Wenzel enters her ninth season as the Senior Woman Administrator at
Georgia Tech and also holds the title of Associate Director of Athletics. She oversees
women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, golf, men’s and women’s tennis, and the men’s
and women’s swimming & diving teams in her role.
Wenzel is the athletic department non-academic liaison to the Offi ce of Student
Affairs. She is also a member of various committees including the Georgia Tech
Women’s Resource Center Advisory Board, the Title IX Compliance Committee, the
GTAA Compliance and Equity Committee and the NCAA Athletic Certifi cation Steering
Committee. Wenzel also serves on the ACC Equity Committee, the ACC Women’s
Basketball Committee, ACC Softball Committee and the ACC Women’s Tennis
Committee
In 2011, Wenzel earned the prestigious Administrator of the Year award from
the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) for her excellence in athletic
administration. The WBCA Administrator of the Year Award is awarded annually to an
administrator, athletic director, associate or assistant athletic director, or senior woman
administrator who has promoted women’s basketball in a positive manner through
clinics, speaking engagements, books, articles, research and/or special promotions at
the local, regional and/or national levels, and who has served as a professional role-
model for student athletes.
Wenzel possesses a wide range of experience in athletic administration and
coaching. She joined the Georgia Tech Athletic Association staff in October of 2005
after an eight-year stint at Siena College (N.Y.), where she served as Assistant and then
Associate Athletics Director of business operations while also coaching the women’s
golf team.
While at Siena, Wenzel served one year as the school’s intramural director and
assistant facilities director before being named Assistant Athletic Director for business
operations and head women’s golf coach in 1998. In seven seasons as head golf
coach, Wenzel led the Saints to fi ve consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference titles
from 2001-2005. She relinquished her coaching duties following the 2005 season
when she was promoted to Associate Athletics Director.
Prior to her time at Siena, Wenzel spent three years (1994-97) as an assistant
women’s basketball coach at Canisus College in Buffalo, N.Y., and she also served an
internship with the National Invitational Tournament.
A basketball letterwinner at Marquette University, Wenzel earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in business administration from Marquette in 1991. She added a
master’s degree in sport administration from Canisius in 2000.

PRESIDENT DR. G.P. BUD PETERSON
DR. G.P. BUD PETERSONINSTITUTE PRESIDENT
Since assuming the role as Georgia Tech’s 11th president in 2009, Dr. G. P. “Bud” Peterson has engaged the Georgia Tech community in developing and implementing a 25-year strategic plan. He has realigned Tech’s administrative units for greater effectiveness, championed efforts to strengthen the Institute’s leadership in innovation, expanded strategic partnerships, and worked to maximize Tech’s impact in the state, region, nation, and the world.
Launched in conjunction with Tech’s strategic plan, “Designing the Future,” Campaign Georgia Tech has raised more than $1.25 billion towards its goal of $1.5 billion. This generosity of Tech’s many supporters will help the Institute realize its goals outlined in the strategic plan, add endowed chairs and professorships, scholarships and fellowships, and both renovate existing and build new facilities.
Georgia Tech continues to benefi t from the generous philanthropic support and its many partnerships. In the past four years, renovations and new facilities on campus include the McCamish Pavilion, the Ken Byers Tennis Complex, the John and Mary Brock Football Practice Facility, the Zelnak Basketball Practice Facility, the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, and the Carbon Neutral Energy Solutions Lab. Now under construction is the Engineered Biosystems Building, which will extend Tech’s vision for interdisciplinary research, addressing many of today’s grand challenges in biomedical science and human health.
Under Peterson’s leadership Georgia Tech is taking a leading role in creating an “Innovation Zone” in Midtown Atlanta that has attracted companies such as Panasonic, Penguin Computing and AT&T Mobility’s Foundry. Technology Square is a high-energy hub, creating an exciting environment for innovation to fl ourish.

Georgia Tech remains among the top 10 in research expenditures among universities without a medical school, with $689 million in research expenditures in 2012.
Peterson is a champion of the G. Wayne Clough Georgia Tech Promise program, working to increase corporate and individual support. Tech Promise offers a debt-free Georgia Tech education to academically qualifi ed Georgia residents from low-income families. More than 200 students were enrolled in the program this past year with an average family income of less than $21,000/year, and almost 600 students have participated to date.
Peterson came to Georgia Tech from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he served as chancellor. Prior to that, he served as provost at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York; on the faculty and in leadership positions at Texas A&M University for 19 years; and he has worked at both NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Throughout his career, Peterson has played an active role in helping to establish the national education and research agendas, serving on numerous industry, government and academic task forces and committees. A distinguished scientist, he was appointed in 2008 by President
George W. Bush to serve as a member of the National Science Board, which oversees the National Science Foundation and advises the President and Congress on national policy related to science and engineering research and education. In 2011, President Barack Obama appointed him to the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership steering committee.
Under his leadership, Georgia Tech was invited to become a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), the fi rst university to be invited to membership in ten years.
Peterson is a fellow of both the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and received the AIAA Distinguished Service Award in 2011. His research has focused on phase change heat transfer in both the cooling of electronic devices and spacecraft thermal control. He is widely published, authoring or co-authoring 15 books or book chapters, 210 refereed journal articles, and more than 160 conference publications. He also holds nine patents with two others pending.
Peterson earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a second bachelor’s degree in mathematics, and a master’s degree in engineering, all from Kansas State
University. While an undergraduate at Kansas State, Peterson lettered three years as a tight end/wide receiver for the Wildcats football team. He earned a PhD in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.
President Peterson is a tireless ambassador for Georgia Tech. He and his wife of 39 years, Val, represent Georgia Tech globally, nationally, and locally, speaking to government, business and industry, and community leaders, as well as to civic and community groups, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. He and Val have four adult children, two of which are Tech alumni.

2007 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSGEORGIA TECH WINS NCAA WOMEN’S TENNIS TITLEJackets Defeat UCLA 4-2 in Championship Match
Athens, Ga. -- Kristi Miller, Amanda McDowell and Christy Striplin won singles matches and then
senior Alison Silverio provided the clinching victory at No. 2 singles to give Georgia Tech a 4-2 victory
over UCLA in the NCAA championship match Tuesday at Henry Feild Stadium. The championship is
the fi rst NCAA title in any sport for Georgia Tech, which has also won four national championships in
football via wire service polls.
“I just couldn’t be happier,” said Tech head coach Bryan Shelton, whose team won its 21st straight
match to fi nish the season at 29-4. “We fought our tails off. For Ali (Silverio) to come through in the
clutch one more time for us in the fi nal match of her career is just unbelievable.”
Tech fell behind by losing the doubles point and then trailed 2-1 before Miller and Striplin put the
Jackets back on top 3-2 with Silverio just beginning her third set. Tech trailed in the remaining match
on court six when Silverio fi nished off 40th-ranked Tracy Lin with a dominating 6-1 win in the third.
Silverio had won the fi rst 7-5 but dropped the second, also 7-5. Silverio, who also clinched the Jack-
ets’ quarterfi nal win over Fresno State, was named the Most Valuable Player of the NCAA Tournament.
McDowell earned Tech’s fi rst singles win with a 6-1, 6-0 blitzing of Ashley Joelson at No. 4 singles.
The freshman from Atlanta won her 10th straight match and her team-leading 39th of the season.
She was undefeated in the NCAA matches to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
One day after clinching Tech’s semifi nal win over California, Striplin again provided a key victory as she
rallied for a three-set win over Alex McGoodwin at No. 5 singles. After losing the fi rst set, Striplin won
12 of the fi nal 14 games for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory and was also named to the all-tournament team.
Miller, ranked sixth in the nation, defeated No. 15 Riza Zalameda at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 7-6.
UCLA dominated in doubles winning 8-3 at both No. 1 and No. 2, although the Jackets led on court
three when doubles ended. Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack defeated Tech’s third-raked duo of Miller
and Whitney McCray, and Joelson and Goodwin downed Silverio and Amanda Craddock.
The Bruins earned a singles win from Schnack, who defeated Craddock at No. 3, and Lumpkin was
leading for UCLA at No. 6.

ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2005 ACC CHAMPIONS
CARY, N.C. - Tournament MVP Alison Silverio came back after dropping her fi rst set to win at No. 4 singles and lift
sixth-ranked Georgia Tech to a 4-3 victory over No. 12 Miami in the fi nals of the ACC Championship.
It marks the fi rst ACC Championship in Georgia Tech tennis history.
“I think it’s so hard to win an ACC title and it’s hard enough to get into the fi nals, much less complete the task
by winning the tournament,” said head coach Bryan Shelton. “In 1988, we [the men’s team] came so close, just one
match away from winning. Kenny [Thorne, head coach for Georgia Tech men’s tennis] and I were out there in the end
and couldn’t quite get it done, so it has been a long time coming to have this opportunity again. It doesn’t feel much
different, being a coach or player, as it is just as satisfying to win now as a coach. The girls on the court are the ones that
got it done though, they deserve all of the credit.”
In the tournament, the Yellow Jackets went 11-4 in singles matches, including a perfect 3-0 mark by Silverio.
She also teamed with Kristi Miller to clinch the doubles point against the Hurricanes earlier in the day.
The Yellow Jackets carried a 1-0 lead into singles play by earning wins at the No. 1 and 3 doubles positions.
After the Hurricane duo of Megan Bradley and Staci Stevens defeated Lyndsay Shosho and Dasha Potapova, 8-5,
at the No. 2 slot, the Yellow Jacket duo of Whitney McCray and Kelly Anderson downed Patricia Starzyk and Caren
Seenauth, 8-5 at No. 3, setting up the top doubles slot for the clinching point.
No. 18 Miller and Silverio then stopped a comeback by Audrey Banada and Melissa Applebaum to clinch the
doubles point for the Yellow Jackets with a 9-7 score at the No. 1 position.
Banada tied the match at 1-1 when she defeated Shosho, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 5 singles position, and Miami took a 2-1
lead in the match when No. 99 Emily Mowery downed Tech’s Kacie Anson, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
After Miami went up 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win by the nation’s top-ranked Bradley at No. 1 singles, the Yellow
Jackets battled back with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions.
At No. 2, Potapova battled the Hurricane’s Stevens, winning 6-2, 7-5, and the Jackets’ Anderson came back
after winning a tiebreaker in the fi rst set to defeat Applebaum, 7-6 (6), 6-1.
Silverio then came back to win her second set 6-4 after dropping the fi rst by a 5-7 mark and then breezed
through the fi nal set, 6-2 against Starzyk, to give the Yellow Jackets their fi rst ACC Championship.

2006 ACC CHAMPIONS
CARY, N.C. - With singles wins by Kelly Anderson, Kristi Miller and Christy Striplin, the 10th-ranked Georgia
Tech women’s tennis team captured its second ACC Championship in as many years with a 4-1 victory over No. 9
Miami Sunday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, NC.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets tied their previous season-high with their 21st win, moving to 21-5 on the
season, while Miami dropped to 19-6.
“Our goal from the fi rst day of practice in the fall was to come back and win the ACC Championship,” said
Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “The girls have kept that goal in front of them all year, and for them to come
out and keep that against a great Miami team is just a credit to the heart and discipline that they show every day.”
Tech improved to 5-3 against the Hurricanes, and are a perfect 5-0 against Miami since Shelton began coach-
ing on the Flats in 2000. After earning the fi rst ACC Tennis Championship in school history a year ago, the Jackets are
now back-to-back champions for the fi rst time in history.
The Jackets took a 1-0 lead in the match with quick victories at the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles slots. The Tech duo
of Kacie Anson and Alison Silverio dropped Caren Seenauth and Patricia Starzyk, 8-3, on court three before Anderson
and Whitney McCray captured the deciding point with an 8-4 victory over Monika Dancevic and Audrey Banada at the
No. 2 position.
“I think that our team stepped up in so many spots today,” said Shelton. “It started with our best doubles effort
of the year, and it culminated with players stepping up in singles.”
Anderson, ranked No. 111 in singles, gave the Jackets a 2-0 edge with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Starzyk on
court fi ve before No. 83 Melissa Applebaum pulled the `Canes within one point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 60
Lyndsay Shosho at No. 2 singles.
ACC Tournament MVP Kristi Miller, the top-ranked singles player in the nation, then pushed the score to 3-0 with
a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 victory over the nation’s No. 2 singles player, ACC Player of the Year Audra Cohen, before
Striplin clinched the championship for the Jackets with a 6-1, 7-5 win against Seenauth at the No. 6 slot in the lineup.
“Up and down the lineup, I saw quality tennis all day long,” added Shelton, “and at the end of the day, we were
holding the trophy. I’m just really proud of this group of players.”

ACC CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007 ACC CHAMPIONS
CARY, N.C. - Christy Striplin won 12 of her last 13 games en route to a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles
to clinch match point as the fi fth-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (23-4) captured their third-straight ACC Women’s
Tennis Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 11 Miami in the title match Sunday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Complex.
“It never gets old,” said an elated Bryan Shelton, head coach of the three-time ACC Champion women’s tennis
team.
For the third-straight day, the Yellow Jackets were led by freshman Amanda Craddock, who ended the tourna-
ment with a 3-0 record in singles and a 2-0 mark in doubles to earn MVP honors. Craddock posted a 6-3, 6-2 win
over Miami’s 50th-ranked Audrey Banada to tie the match at 1-1 after the Hurricanes won the doubles point to start the
day.
“A.C. is well deserving (of MVP honors) after her play this weekend,” said Shelton. “Not only did she win, but she
won convincingly in all of her matches. She was the catalyst for this team all weekend, and the honor is just a tribute to
what she’s done all season. She has gotten better and better as the season has gone on.”
Freshman Amanda McDowell gave the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Romy Farah at
the No. 4 singles spot before Tech’s eighth-ranked Kristi Miller stunned top-ranked Audra Cohen, 7-5, 6-2, at the top
singles spot to push the score to 3-1. It was the second time in as many ACC Championship matches that Miller has
bested Cohen.
“Kristi’s win was huge,” said Shelton. “Last year she got over the hump, beating Audra at ACC’s, and she made
shockwaves throughout the rankings. I think the same happened again today. She fell behind early (to Cohen), but got
gritty and stuck in there. Once (Miller) got on top, she didn’t relinquish the lead. I’m so proud of her effort, especially after
losing doubles. She came back strong to lead this team to victory.”
Miami began singles play with a 1-0 lead after winning at the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles positions. Banada and Gina
Sabatino stopped the Yellow Jacket tandem of Tarryn Rudman and Kirsten Flower, 8-3, at the third doubles spot before
Tech’s 51st-ranked duo of Alison Silverio and Craddock handed Caren Seenauth and Farah an 8-6 loss at the second
doubles position, setting up the top doubles line as the deciding match.
Miami’s 33rd-ranked Cohen and Laura Vallverdu then outlasted Miller and Whitney McCray, the nation’s third-
ranked doubles team, 8-6, to give the Hurricanes the fi rst point of the match.

2010 ACC CHAMPIONS
CARY, N.C. - Sophomore Irina Falconi pulled off a dramatic three-set victory to clinch seventh-seeded Georgia
Tech team’s 4-3 win over top-seeded and No. 1 ranked North Carolina in the fi nals of the 2010 ACC Tournament at
the Cary Tennis Center.
The Yellow Jackets captured their fourth ACC Tournament title under head Bryan Shelton and fi rst since 2007.
“What an incredible weekend,” Shelton said. “It is certainly one of the biggest highlights in our program’s history.
It was a really special weekend to be able to see our players believe and execute the game plans. We fought through a
lot of adversity this weekend physically but just remained so mentally tough.”
Falconi, the tournament MVP, split the fi rst two sets with No. 22 Sanaz Marand before winning the match in the
third set, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
“That was one of the gutsiest performances that I have seen,” said Shelton about Falconi. “For her to be able to
steady herself and get to the net on two of the biggest points of the match to clinch it for us was incredible for us.”
The Yellow Jackets opened the day by taking two of three doubles matches to open up an early 1-0 lead over
the Tar Heels. After Elizabeth Kilborn and Viet Ha Ngo fell on court three, the Jackets tandem of Hillary Davis and Lynn
Blau picked up their teammates with an 8-6 victory over Sophie Grabinski and Jelena Durisic. With the point on the line,
Tech’s No. 1 duo of Falconi and Sasha Krupina came through with an 8-5 win over Marand and Katrina Tsang.
North Carolina pulled even with the Jackets when Jelena Durisic upended Krupina, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
The Tar Heels Shinann Featherston followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Davis at the sixth position in the lineup to open a
2-1 advantage on Tech.
Kilborn evened the score at 2-2 with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Grabinski on court fi ve but the Tar Heels would
answer right back when No. 51 Tsang fi nished off Ngo, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.
Down 3-2, the Jackets Lynn Blau came from behind to win a huge 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Gina Suarez-
Malaguti on court four.
The match came down to Falconi, the nation’s top-ranked player, and she did not disappoint. Falconi captured
her school-record 26th dual-match victory of the season and has now won 20 straight matches to lead Tech to the title.
“We could not have done this without everyone on the team contributing,” Shelton said. “This was truly a team
effort this weekend. We got a lift from everyone on the team and it led us to this win.”

ACC Tournament Notes: From 1977 to 1982 the conference
champion was determined solely on the basis of a post-season
tournament with points awarded on individual play. From 1983 to
1985 the conference champion was based on points awarded for
both regular-season and tournament play. The regular season results
accounted for approximately 40 percent of the total and the tournament,
the remaining 60 percent. From 1986 to 1989, the conference
champion was determined by a three-day, single-elimination dual
match tournament with a playback to determine places one through
eight. Since 1990 the conference champion has been determined
by a single-elimination dual match tournament with no playback.
