Luncheon Update
A student who successfully completes a college preparatory course under Texas Education Code §28.014 is exempt for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of high school graduation with respect to the content area of the course.
This exemption applies only at the institution of higher education that partners with the school district in which the student is enrolled to provide the course.
College Prep Course RulesUpdate
MOU’s for teaching these college preparatory courses were received from49 school districts.
Last summer 70 ELA and 79 math teachers were trained to teach college prep classes.
College Prep Course MOU Information
College will determine standards for determining successful course completion as it relates to the college exemption.
To be eligible for enrollment in a college preparatory mathematics and/or English language arts course the student did not meet Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Exemption standards as defined in TAC19.1.4D Rule §4.85 and in TEC Sec. 28.014.
College Prep Course Information
College Prep Course is designed for seniors only.
Courses will be conducted at the high school with the high school administration being responsible for designating the instructor and the times for the courses to be taught on the campus.
Courses need to be coded using PEIMS number and CPELA and CPMAT on the student’s transcript.

Honor Cords— 235 honor cords were awarded to graduating Seniors who had earned 24 or more dual credit hours.

Dual Credit News
Process by which a high school student enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school.
Dual credit courses are college level courses which require that all pre-requisites for that course be met prior to enrollment.

Who is eligible?
Students who are in TSI compliance, and have permission from their parent, high school principal and the Dean of Admissions and Records are eligible to enroll in dual credit courses.
How are dual credit classes offered?
Face-to-face classroom at the high school taught by high school teachers who also have necessary credentials to teach in college (Master’s degree with 18 hours in area)
Face-to-face classroom at the high school taught by fulltime SPC faculty member

Dual Credit students are no longer limited to 15 hours per semester.
Students are no longer restricted to 2 courses per semester without additional approval.
Requirement that students taking 3 or more courses must make at least a grade of “C” in each course in order to continue taking more than 2 courses will most likely be repealed.
Dual Credit Changes Effective Fall 2015
Students enrolling in Workforce (Career Technical Education) courses applied to Level I Certificates (such as Welding & Cosmetology) do not have to be TSI compliant.
Juniors taking dual credit courses may use PSAT & PLAN scores to satisfy TSI requirements for the junior year and must make at least a C in the courses they are taking in order to be able to demonstrate enrollment eligibility for their senior year.
Students could be exempt the following year on one or more areas based on prior college coursework.
Dual Credit Reminders
Stipends will be based on SPC Census day enrollments.
Schools will designate who the DC Coordinators are and how many they wish to be paid.
Schools with multiple coordinators will have the stipends divided equally among them.
Stipends will be paid on Oct. 1st and March 1st. Stipends cannot be paid until all required
paperwork is completed.

Dual Credit Coordinator Stipends
Complete the dual credit enrollment forms and submit as a complete packet ready for processing
Make sure student has completed ApplyTexas Application prior to submitting paperwork to SPC
Mail packets to ONE PERSON. Don’t send copies of the same materials to other people as both then have to process the same material twice.
Test scores, etc. that are received prior to ApplyTexas cannot be processed which means duplicate submission by counselors.
Use correct social security numbers on ApplyTexas, test scores and transcripts
How to Save Time and Work
Please use your social security number even though it states it is optional. SSN will be required in the near future.
This will help us process your file more efficiently.
Please choose dual credit as your basis of seeking admission and where you plan to enroll.
This will prevent you from being charge full price for fees.
Please don’t confuse your ApplyTexas username and password with your MySPC/Campus Connect username and password.

August 26th –Counselor Lists Due to the Business Office (if your ISD pays for DC)

Please make sure your students are registered in all of their classes prior to sending your list.

If payment is not received by the deadline, classes will be dropped & students will have to be registered again.
September 2nd – Last day to utilize fall Installment Contract Option
Please remember: Registration is not complete until your dual credit fees are paid!
Registration Changes
NO DUAL CREDIT REGISTRATION DAY AT REESE CENTER THIS YEAR. Last day to Add/Drop for ITV & Internet Classes August 27th by 3:00 p.m. Last day to add for High School Campus Classes During late registration is September 4th by 3:00 p.m. After August 27th payment must be made at the time you register.
If students completed their admissions and dual credit paperwork early—they have been registered by the Dual Credit Office.
