Mike Aresco has established himself as one of the leading fi gures in intercol-legiate sports as commissioner of the American Athletic Conference. Aresco, who was named to his current position Aug. 14, 2012, has overseen a strategic reinvention of the conference, which has quickly become one of the pre-mier conferences in the nation. Among the milestones reached in Aresco’s tenure have been the announce-ment of a conference football champion-ship game for the fi rst time in 2015 and the league’s successful staging of its own postseason bowl game, the Miami Beach Bowl, in 2014. In the wake of the changes created by college sports realignment, Aresco moved quickly to solidify the conference, leading negotiations that resulted in the most favorable fi nancial terms for the con-ference’s football schools, after the with-drawal of the non-football-playing schools, as well as the 2013-14 launch of the re-named and rebranded conference. He simultaneously led the negotiations that resulted in television contracts with ESPN and CBS Sports, which have given the conference unprecedented national exposure and branding with the two in-dustry leaders in sports television. He has also successfully worked with the con-ference schools to arrive at an equitable distribution of existing revenue for the current and new conference institutions, bringing about a period of cohesiveness that is unprecedented in the league’s his-tory. Aresco has played an active role in the formation of the College Football Playoff, serving on the College Football Playoff Management Committee and helping to select the 13 members of the CFP Selec-tion Committee. Aresco also serves on the College Football Playoff Television and Site Selection committees.

Aresco is a member of the Conference Commissioners Association enforcement working group and women’s basketball working group. He serves on the board of managers for both College Football Of-fi ciating, LLC, and Men’s College Basket-ball, LLC. He is also a member of the FBS commissioners’ media subcommittee. He is a charter member of the steering com-mittee of the Columbia University/New York City Chapter of the National Football Foundation and serves on the board of the National Sports Marketing Network. Aresco came to the conference from CBS Sports where he was Execu-tive Vice President, Programming. He was responsible for all college sports program-ming for CBS Sports and CBS Sports Net-work. Aresco oversaw the acquisition and management of CBS Sports college prop-erties, including the NCAA Men’s Basket-ball Championship, regular-season col-lege basketball and football, conference basketball championship games, football bowl games and other programming. His responsibilities included game selection and scheduling, day-to-day operations, contract negotiations, identifi cation of future acquisitions, development of pro-gramming strategies and coordination of new media and marketing initiatives. Aresco joined CBS Sports from ESPN where he was responsible for overseeing the acquisition, scheduling and develop-ment of long-term strategies for all ESPN college sports properties. He joined ESPN in 1984 as Counsel and was named Assis-tant General Counsel in 1988 before mov-ing to the programming department. Aresco is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Tufts University (B.A., magna cum laude, history), The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts (M.A., international relations), where he held a John Moors Cabot Scholarship, and the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D.). He prac-ticed law privately in Hartford, Connecti-cut, for several years. Aresco is a regular speaker and ex-pert panelist at national symposiums and seminars on the topics of college athlet-ics and sports television. He was awarded the 2013 Distinguished Graduate Award by the UConn School of Law Alumni As-sociation and was elected to the Middle-town (Connecticut) Sports Hall of Fame in January of 2015.

Aresco and his wife, Sharon, have two adult sons, Matthew, an Emmy-nominat-ed television producer who has his own production company in Connecticut, and Brett, an actor who lives in New York City.

ON THE WEB

The most in-depth coverage of the American Athletic Conference can be found on The American Digital Network, the over-the-top streaming video platform of The American and its 12 member institu-tions.

The American has extended its partnership with L2 Productions to provide video production services for more than 65 events annually on The American Digital Network through the 2018-19 academic year.

The American and L2 Productions have collaborated on live video production of regular-season and championship events for the past two years. The American Digital Network produced 65 live events in 2014-15 and plans to showcase at least 80 for the 2015-16 season. All events are carried by professional-grade, multiple-camera pro-ductions which include accomplished play-by-play announcers and expert analysts.

As a result of the partnership, The American Digital Network will provide complete live video coverage of The American’s postseason championships in cross country, swimming and diving, indoor track and field, outdoor track and field, and rowing. The ADN will also provide coverage of any games of the conference’s women’s soccer, men’s soccer, softball and baseball championships that are not car-

ried by one of the conference’s television partners.Additionally, The American Digital Network will provide coverage

of 25 regular-season women’s basketball games as well as select regular-season contests in soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball. The ADN will have full wraparound coverage of The American’s post-season championships in football and men’s and women’s basketball.

In addition to its coverage of regular-season and championship events, The American Digital Network is the home for on-demand previews and game highlights as well as “The Rise,” a weekly look at the conference that includes scores, highlights and feature stories.

The American Digital Network is also the primary source for cover-age of the conference’s football and basketball media days. Coverage in 2015 will include live segments from the podium, including round-table discussions with The American’s head coaches and the opening remarks by commissioner Mike Aresco.

All of The American Digital Network productions are available on desktop, tablet, mobile and Roku devices at no charge. The ADN will include DVR functionality and immediate access to archived replays beginning in the 2015-16 season.
