Upper Cuts

At Market 810 in Shafer Court Dining Center, you may choose to upgrade your meal with an Upper Cuts selection in exchange for additional block(s), or you may use cash, credit cards, Dining Dollars or RamBucks. Look for the Upper Cuts logo to identify available options.

Blocks

Blocks are dining center “swipes” used primarily at Shafer Court Dining Center and Jonah’s, a culinary emporium. Blocks can also be used to purchase a meal combo through the Meal Exchange program. Each block equals one dining plan swipe and in most cases is equivalent to one meal. Blocks expire at the end of each semester.

Dining Dollars

Dining Dollars work like a pre-paid debit card that allows you to purchase what you want when you want at all 25 Dining locations.

Dining Dollars can be added to any existing plan online at bsv.vcu.edu/vcufood ($25 increments and credit/debit card required). Using Dining Dollars allows you to save the 11.5% meal tax.

Monroe Park Campus MCV Campus

Exchange dining blocks for meals wherever you see the Meal Exchange logo on a campus menu. Here’s an example:

At Cary St. Market & Deli, a Meal Exchange for one dining block gets you the Chef’s Daily Special, with choice of side yogurt, chips, or side salad and choice of medium fountain beverage or bottled water.

How It Works

We encourage you to dine frequently at our award-winning Market 810 in Shafer Court Dining Center. However, there are times you need a change. Meal Exchange provides that change, giving you flexibility in dining.

At any given time each day, or at some point in the week, 19 of our 25 locations offer Meal Exchange options. Simply exchange a dining plan Block for a combo meal at any of the participating locations.

If a location doesn’t offer Meal Exchange, such as Chili’s, Starbucks and Wendy’s, or you’re ready for your meal during non-participating hours, you can still use your Dining Dollars.

Please visit bsv.vcu.edu/dining for more information.

Look for the Meal Exchange logo at the following locations to use your blocks:

By failing to select a VCU Dining Plan and having the default plan assigned to you, you agree to the VCU Dining Services Terms and Conditions. Required Dining Plans

All VCU students residing in dormitory-style residence halls (specifically Brandt, GRC II, GRC III, Johnson, Rhoads, Honors College and Cabaniss) are required to purchase one of the Essential Dining Plans available through VCU Dining Services. Please keep in mind the dining program and your dietary needs when making your housing selection.

Changes to your dining plan must be made through VCU Dining Services.

Paying for your Plan

Dining Plans bill directly through the VCU Student Accounting Department. Payment is made at my.vcu.edu, the VCU online bill payment service. VCU Dining Services is unable to process your payment.

Sharing Blocks

Blocks are for the enrolled participant only, except when using the guest meal privilege. Depending on the plan selected, up to 20 of the meals may be used for guest dining privileges. Additional guest meals can be purchased with cash, credit card, RamBucks or Dining Dollars.

VCUCard: Your Access to Dining Centers

All registered VCU students are issued a VCUCard. The VCUCard serves as an identification card and your VCU Dining Services meal card. Account balances may be obtained through vcucard.com. If your VCUCard is lost or stolen, the VCUCard office must be notified and a replacement obtained immediately. Lending another individual your VCUCard is a violation of University policy.

Guest Restaurant Program

Nationally recognized, this program brings local, minority-owned restaurants to Market 810 three times each fall and spring semester. Students are able to try a variety of ethnic cuisine for just a meal swipe or two. Past guests featured Jamaican, Thai and Korean fare.

Healthy Eating

Eating well is as important as living well. Whether you have a medical conditions, whether you have a diet based on specific lifestyles or religious beliefs, or you just want to avoid the dreaded “freshman 15,” one approach to healthy eating will not translate for everyone. VCU Dining Services offers options that fit your specific dietary needs, including gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. Please remember to always consult with your doctor before making nutritional changes to your diet. For more specific questions and to set up an appointment to meet with a member of our culinary team, call 804.828.1148 or email [email protected].

Nutrition on Campus

Menus and nutrition information can be found on our website (bsv.vcu.edu/dining) and on the VCU Mobile App under Dining. Look for the following nutritional signage (shown above) along with a touch-screen kiosk in Market 810.

MyFitnessPal

Aramark’s Healthy for Life program has teamed up with MyFitnessPal to make counting your calories and tracking your physical activity on campus easy. First, download MyFitnessPal and become a member. Then search for menu items by typing “Aramark On Campus” then the menu item name for Aramark brand foods (ex. “Aramark On Campus breakfast pizza” for a slice from Market 810 ) or type the “Location Name” then the menu item name for Retail Dining (ex. “Chick-fil-A milkshake”). Getting fit just got so much easier!

Constraints & Concerns

VCU Dining offers several resources for students with dietary constraints or concerns. During Welcome Week we offer tours of our dining center and the opportunity to meet with some of the Dining Team. VCU Dining members are also available for one-on-one consultations to help you better understand on-campus dining and the relationship to your dietary concerns. We strongly encourage you to consider your dietary needs when evaluating the dining program and prior to making a housing selection.

In addition to personalized service from VCU Dining, there is also a registered dietitian on staff at VCU who is available for consultations.

Nutrition information is available online through our website and the Dining component of the VCU app.

To schedule a consultation with the VCU Dining team, please contact [email protected] or 804-828-1148.

VCU Dining Services is committed to maintaining and improving the environment we live in every day. Here are just some of the ways we’re working to conserve our resources:

REDUCE • Trayless - this reduces waste and chemical pollution while also conserving water. • All of our facilities use flow inhibitors on the water supply, Energy Star appliances and high speed hand dryers. • Education program - each semester we encourage students to reduce their waste. As an incentive, an in-kind matching donation is made to the local food bank. • Environmentally friendly cleaners - the daily floor cleaning is done with equipment that ionically charges water to clean and sanitize the floors. This means no harsh chemicals are used. • All seafood served meets the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch standards.

REUSE • Shafer Court Dining Center serves 5,000 meals a day on reusable plates, glasses and flatware.

RECYCLE • Recycled fryer oil - All of our fryer oil is recycled by a local company and converted to bio-diesel. • Compostable products are used when we’re not able to provide reusable items. COMMITTED TO CHANGE • VA Green Member - Our dining centers pledge to recycle, reduce their waste and conserve resources. • VCU Dining Services co-chairs a subcommittee on the VCU President’s Sustainability Council. • We proudly serve cage free eggs.
