Parent Behavior Policy – following USA Hockey “Zero Tolerance”

*NEW* policy as of July 2015 which applies to both tryouts and in season

INFRACTIONS: Anytime a PLSHA parent/guardian/spectator/has a reported misconduct infraction as noted above during tryouts or in season, is removed from a game, practice, or other PLSHA event, there will be immediate and automatic consequences as outlined below. The parent may have been reported/removed by a referee, coach, tournament official, arena official, or police officer.

• For the first infraction during tryouts or current season, the parent shall be removed from all PLSHA events, home or away, for a period of 30 days

• For the second infraction during tryouts or current season, the parent shall be removed from all PLSHA events, home or away, for a period of 90 days

• The parent may appeal the above stated suspensions after 7 days with a written appeal to the PLSHA Board Officers (President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary); however, exceptions to the consequences will be rare in accordance with the zero tolerance nature of this policy.

• The PLSHA Board of Directors and/or D6 reserves the right to institute greater penalties than outlined above as they deem appropriate.

• Any parental/guardian/spectator misconduct not specifically alluded to above, will be dealt with on an individual basis by the PLSHA Board Officers (President, VP, Treasurer, and Secretary).

• Bench coaches are exempt from this policy as they are governed by specific District 6 rules for coaches.

Parents: Know concussion signs! – Player appears dazed, stunned, or confused– Unsure of game, score, or opponent– Moves clumsily– Answers questions slowly– Loses consciousness– Can’t recall events – Behavior or personality changes– Headache, Nausea, Dizziness, Lack of Concentration, Sluggish– Sensitive to light or noise

* Call 911 if player can’t be awakened, is vomiting, has seizures, can’t breathe, worsening headache.

Parents: Let the Concussion Heal!

• Most players recover in 1-2 weeks• Other may have prolonged symptoms that can last

months– Prolonged symptoms:

• Headaches• Difficulty concentrating• Poor memory• Sleep problems

• These symptoms can affect school performance• Player will require a MD release to return to the ice

ADDITIONAL APPAREL VENDOR

For the 2015-16 season, PLSHA will be adding an ONLINE APPAREL STORE

• Samples will be on hand shortly following the completion of tryouts and a fitting day will be coordinated

• First ordering window will be mid Oct lasting for 10 days

• Teams are encouraged to order from Lettermen as it is being considered to begin an association-wide team apparel standard.

If you are interested in coaching this season please complete the followingOnline Registration Steps (found on the PLSHA ‘Coaches’ tab):

1.  Submit a coaching application.  This requires you first register with USA Hockey2.  Complete the Background Screening3.  Possess a current CEP Certification4.  Complete the Age-Specific Modules for ALL levels you are coaching5.  Complete the SafeSport training6. Submit receipts for all classes/modules in one request to the PLSHA Treasurer by 12/31/2015 for reimbursement of eligible expenses.

Tryout General Information

• Tryouts are stressful for all!

• We work to continuously improve the process each year to be as fair as possible, however, no system is perfect nor will everyone be satisfied.

• Detailed schedule posted on website left hand tab: “2015-2016 tryout info”. Next day’s scrimmage groupings will be posted nightly where applicable (Bantam, PeeWee, Squirt, 12U)

Board Tryout Principles

• Be thorough: Have multiple sessions and evaluators; Use previous coach input where needed

• Be consistent: Board Liaisons utilized to monitor integrity of process

• Be as transparent as possible: Evaluation criteria posted

• No Distractions: Tryouts are closed to parents – Please respect this!

• Level Designations; Sept 24th Deadline• HS Refs, face-offs, and timed shifts• Maintain role of non-parent evaluators; we have 6-7 per level• Increased Day 1 group numbers to maintain on-ice pace• Use prior season coach input for bubble decisions if necessary• Allow a family to skip tryouts if desire “C” team placement• Avoid fall sports/homecoming conflicts as much as possible; will

never be perfect• All players MUST wear a gold helmet!

*The best players will be selected for each respective team regardless of position previously played. The evaluators will identify appropriate strengths and weaknesses regardless of position.

Experienced Evaluators Our tryout staff has experience as coaches, players, evaluators at one or more of the following levels; D1, D3, Junior, High School, and Youth. They also have significant experience as evaluators and coaches with the Minnesota High Performance 18’s, 17’s, 16’s, 15’s, as well as numerous USA Hockey Festivals, and the Great 8 program. They are highly qualified and have been involved in this game a long time. They’re all very experienced evaluators and it takes a small army to do this job right.They will not get it right every time, but they do take a tremendous amount of pride in trying to get it right!

• Team hours are expected and will be rotated by the team manager in order to successfully operate the team

• PLSHA/D6 hours will be designated year-to-year by the Board based on needs and PLSHA Commitments• 2015-2016 there will be a minimum of 5 PLSHA/D6 hours required per player• If you attended tonight’s meeting please be sure to report 1 hour to a team manager

Dryland• Always looking to improve and survey feedback has been very helpful• We will staff dryland with the best available trainers and provide them the necessary training• Continue regular staffing numbers with the addition of a youth coach from each team• High school staff and HS mentors will also be playing a role; girls and boys• NO CELLPHONE use by staff unless an emergency; focus is on the players, training, and

improvement• Travel = 15 sessions Advanced Mite = 10 sessions• Detailed lesson plans for each age level will be posted on the PLSHA website; dummy proof• Staff will be required to explain the how and why for each activity• Helmets required in shooting area starting this year• Players need helmets, skates, gloves, and stick• Attendance mandatory for players and (1) coach• Players must notify coach if there’s an acceptable excused absence• Best effort to make dryland as schedule friendly as possible; never perfect• NEW Training Equiment – Battle Ropes, Bulgarian Bags, Speed Ladders, Wobble Balls, Slam
