The campus needs assessment process is described below. The site-based decision making team reviewed data to determine campus needs. We evaluated byusing the following data: campus technology needs, Rigby scores, iStation testing; district Milestone assessments, Words Their Way assessments, andconcerns from staff, parents, and community members. Documentation of the process includes meeting minutes, agendas, sign-in sheets, and copies of data.
Committee members reviewed the data listed above to identify areas of strength and needs
Student attendance is a concern we continue to address at BPS. Our goal is toincrease our average attendance to 97%. We will continue supporting thedistrict attendance policies and continue to recognize all students showing perfect attendance with an award each nine weeks and semester.
According to EOY Rigby, iStation tests, and district milestone results, there is a need to continue intervention time with support from our reading and mathspecialists. We have added a Tier III Reading Specialist to help intensify interventions with our lowest readers in both grades. Barrett Primary studentscontinued to improve in reading. Intervention strategies for reading are: professional development focusing on the five components of reading; balancedliteracy instruction; and, higher level questioning strategies. Intervention strategies identified for math are: professional development on problem solving; 3Dto 2D lesson cycle; hands on activities; small group math instruction; and, continued support with the purchase of manipulatives and materials.Bilingualteachers will continue to work with district and campus administrators to vertically align our bilingual program and attend workshops to improve studentperformance. We will also strive to vertically align with Crosby Kindergarten, Crosby Elementary School, and Newport Elementary. Based upon theincreased amount of technology available to all instructors, additional professional development will be added in this area.
Parental involvement at Barrett Primary is outstanding. Our school offers a vast amount of opportunities for our parents to join in the partnership ofeducating their child. At each event, we host a full house. We strive to create an environment where parents and families feel welcome and want to beinvolved in their child’s education.

Student Achievement
Student Achievement Strengths
Student Achievement/Instruction, Curriculum and Assessment:
Strengths: Barrett Primary students continued to improve in reading. The EOY Rigby testing showed 86% (351 out of 408) of our 1st grade students asbeing on or above the EOY nationwide standards. 4% (15) were 1-2 levels below the EOY standard, with 10.3% (42) 3 or more levels below. Of these 42students, 2 have been previousy retained, 8 are SPED; and 32 will be retained during the 2015-2016 school year due to the new reading promotionstandard. In 2nd-Grade, the EOY Rigby testing showed 94.7% (357) as being on or above the EOY nationwide standards. 4 students (1%) were 1-2 levelsbelow the EOY standard, with 20 students or 5.3% who were 3 or more levels below. This figure includes our SPED population. Of these 20, 12 will beretained during the 2015-2016 school year.
Student Achievement Needs
Needs: According to data, our lowest performing groups in all academic area are African American, Hispanic, and LEP students. According to all EOY testsresults, there is a need to continue support from our reading/math intervention teachers and provide professional development for increased student success. There is a need to focus on comprehension skills in 2nd grade and graphophonemic knowledge in 1st grade. These areas of concern, along with a focus onvocabulary development throughout the school, should be addressed in small group as well as large group instruction. Intervention needs identified for mathare: provide training to teachers for the 3D to 2D cycle of instruction, provide more hands on activities for students, with continued support with the purchaseof manipulatives and materials. We will continue to use iStation as an intervention tool, along with Accelerated Reader as a motivational tool for Reading. In Math, we will use IXL and Brain Pop, Jr. for practice.

School Culture and Climate
School Culture and Climate Strengths
School Culture and Climate:
Strengths: Safety is a top priority at BPS. We conduct monthly fire drills as well as inclement weather drills. This assures us that students and staffunderstand what is expected when a situation arises. We also conduct “lockdown” drills in the event that a threatening person may enter our campus. Ourfront office has Raptor Software that includes V-Soft Identification Program. This is a program that scans the driver’s license of all visitors to our campusand notifies the staff when a possible child predator is trying to enter the facility. We have also continued the WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)program. This is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in order to provide positivemale role models for the students and to enhance school security. We have continued our Kids Hope mentoring program, and also our Backpack Buddyprogram. We have many opportunities to celebrate our staff’s birthdays, luncheon, holidays, staff appreciation, etc.
School Culture and Climate Needs
Needs: Continue educating students on safety on the playground and around the facility. Integrate team building activities to foster a sense of family oncampus. Continue and monitor mentoring program for new staff members.

This includes: projectors in every classroom, wireless slates for 40 classrooms, Smartboards for all classrooms,Smartboard software for every classroom, and wireless document cameras for every instructor in the building. This year, all teaching staff will recieve aMac and iPad. Teachers and administrators meet monthly in small teams to discuss at-risk students. In addition, we utilize Nancy Motley strategiesthroughout our instruction to increase discussion and vocabulary knowledge among all of our students – but most especially, among our LEP and strugglingstudents who have limited academic vocabulary use in English.
Staff Quality, Recruitment, and Retention Needs
Needs: Continue support and training on CScope curriculum. Continue training to improve small group and Balanced Literacy instruction. Other teacherneeds for reading are: professional development focusing on the five components of reading; and, higher level questioning strategies. Needs identified formath are: professional development on problem solving; hands on activities; small group math instruction; and, continued support with the purchase ofmanipulatives and materials. There is also a need to continue training in the use of technology in our classrooms. In both Reading & Math, we will utilizethe push-in or TILT model for 50 minutes Monday – Thursday. There is a need to continue developing vertical alignment between Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade regular ed. teachers as well as bilingual teachers.

Technology
Technology Strengths
Barrett Primary is a campus that believes in the benefits technology provides our students! On this campus, all classroom teachers have a Smartboard;wireless slate; wireless document camera; 4 students computers; and sometimes, the benefit of added iPads awarded through classroom grants.
We have 2 mobile rovers carts which provide the ability to connect to the internet in areas such as the cafeteria, gym, and science lab. We are in the processof installing a projector in both our cafeteria and gym. All teachers have, and are using, either Remind 101 or Classroom apps. to connect via a text withparents. In addition, we are asking all teachers to Tweet one classroom event or activity each week.
Technology Needs
We need training to allow the staff to catch up to the hardware they now have in their rooms. Throughout last year, we provided multiple technology PLCmeetings, as well as Smartboard trainings before and after school. We will continue that practice this year as well.
