One of the things that has bothered me in my four years as Commandant is that no matter what we do or event that is happen- ing in the Detachment, be it gun show, Par- ties, BBQ’s, Pancake breakfasts, Gun shoot competitions, work parties , or whatever that I send out notice to our members that the event is going to happen, I can count on seeing the same people all the time. We are all Marines, and I think if you become involved you will find that those that are there all the time have become friends and maybe that is the problem. Commentary by Jim Wadendash MCL Department of Indiana Commandant 2014-2015

One of the main stays of the Marine Corps has always been the Corpsman who risk his life nearly every time he is

called to go forward to a wounded Marine

Our Detachment lost one of the finest Thomas ldquoDocrdquo Terpinas on August 13 2010 He was a 6th Marine Division

corpsman from the battle of Okinawa fought in 1945 and was a China Marine I donrsquot know his entire history but un-

derstood that he returned from the War went to medical school became a surgeon specializing in Oral Maxillofacial

surgery rejoined the Navy retired with the rank of Captain and wrote several medical books and journals which

helped the medical practice throughout the world

Hiram I Bearss Detachment 089 presented Doc with an Outstanding Achievement award and plaque at the 2010 MCL

Dept of Indiana Department Convention in 2010 At the presentation is when I found out what a wonderful Marine

Gary Nasby truly is He stood beside Doc who was wheel chair bound but had stood to his feet to salute and accept the

award from Department Commandant Russ Eaglin and Gary was there to assist him And as I watched Gary and saw

the tears of pride and love he had for Doc Nearly every Marine in the room had tears in their eyes Gary looked like a

giant beside small Doc Terpinas but had brought him to meetings for several years

I am truly thankful that Connie Hamm and I got to visit with Doc at his nursing home before he passed away Olrsquo Doc

was quite a ladies man and to get that last hug and kiss from lovely Connie was the best gift he could have gotten before

his trip to Heaven

He was a great friend and I miss him God Bless you Tom you lived Semper Fidelis
