Conductors Celebrating its 20 th Anniversary this year, the SCCB was established by Dana Demant, Bill Morrisette, and Gene Slayter. We have presented many free Concerts in the Parks in both Springfield and Eugene, performed at Springfield’s Filbert Festival and Christmas Parade. We have held an annual Children’s Concert, and been the opening act for a Fourth of July concert featuring “Riders in the Sky.” Our members range in age from 20 to over 80. Occupations of our members include teachers, retirees, stay-at-home moms, and local business owners. Dana Demant, the founding director of the SCCB, has been a music teacher in the Springfield School District for over 25 years. He is currently the band and strings teacher at Agnes Stewart Middle School. Besides directing the SCCB, Dana also conducts the Eugene/Springfield Junior Orchestra. Dana has been happily married to Lauren Lindstrom for nearly 30 years and has two fabulous daughters, Jordan and Zoe—who are both hilarious! Doug Doerfert, Director of Bands at Churchill High School, is in his first year at CHS. Prior to teaching at Churchill High School, Douglas directed band programs at Manzano High School and Del Norte High School in Albuquerque, NM where he was also an active performer and clinician in the Albuquerque Metro region. After moving to Eugene in June 2012, Douglas has continued to perform as a freelance trumpeter and provide brass clinics to schools in Eugene and its surrounding towns. Douglas received his B.M.E from the University of Northern Colorado and his M.M. in Wind Conducting from the University of New Mexico. Tracy Ross taught band at Sheldon High school from 2001-2013 teaching Elements Jazz, Evolution Jazz, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and Pep Band. Throughout the years, she also directed many of the school musicals such as "Fiddler on the Roof, Beauty and Beast, Brigadoon" and many more. Mrs. Ross recently left Sheldon to serve as the Sheldon Region Essential Skills Coordinator for Sheldon, Cal Young Middle School, and Monroe Middle School and is also the 4J Music Coordinator. Mrs. Ross, a clarinet player, has also played with Eugene Symphonic Band for over 10 years. She has also served on the Oregon Music Educators Association state board for 15 years in numerous roles. Her husband Jake plays the tuba in ESB, is an acoustic engineer and they have three boys; Nathan (10), Parker (8), and Nicholas (20 months). Mrs. Ross joins the Willamette Valley Honor Band conducting team in 2014 to bring her teaching expertise to the group. Patrick Dixon has been teaching music for the Crow School District since the Fall of 2000. He teaches all bands (including jazz), choir, and general music. Every other year he teaches College Now Music Appreciation for upperclassmen. In the past he has even taught middle and high school art. Mr. Dixon is an Oregon native, and graduated from Redmond High School. He also has degrees from the University of Oregon, University of North Texas, and Yale University. Before he was a full time music teacher he worked as a professional performing musician, playing bass trombone for both classical orchestras and jazz bands, as well as a soloist and on a number of different recordings. He has also taught at the University of Oregon, Oregon State University, and at the Oregon Festival of American Music. Scott McKee assumed the full-time position of Managing Director of the American Band College and the Organizing Director of the Western International Band Clinic in August of 2002. He is also the Associate Editor of Bandworld Magazine (online). Scott is a native of Southern Oregon were he attended Ashland High School and played on the first AHS football team to win the state championship in 1989.! He received his Bachelor's Degree from Southern Oregon University and his Master’s Degree from the American Band College. He taught seven years in the public schools of Oregon (Scappoose and Springfield), where the concert bands were selected for the state band championships every year they competed. ! Scott is the Organizing Director of Western International Band Clinic. In addition to WIBC logistics, he is also the Managing Director of the American Band College and on the WIBC Board of Directors (WIBC, Inc.). He is the founder and director of the Willamette Valley Honor Band, now in its eighth year. Scott is also the co-founder of an international honor band exchange program (Australia and USA) called the Pacific Honours Ensemble Program. Since 2002, he has guest conducted/adjudicated bands in the Northwest, parts of Europe and Australia. He is an elected Associate Member of the prestigious American Bandmasters Association and serves as vice-chair of the Associates Committee. Locally, he serves as a board member of the Springfield Wildish Theater.! Scott, his wife, Stacy Swartout-McKee (choir director at Springfield H.S.), and their five children; Dennis, Tanner, Kelsie, Kamryn and Payton, live in the Willamette Valley area.

The Willamette Valley Honor Band and W.I.B.C, Inc.!The Willamette Valley Honor Band is presented to Willamette Valley band students by Scott McKee and the Western International Band Clinic, Inc. This non-profit corporation also produces the Western International Band Clinic for honor band students and band directors (held in Seattle, Washington every November), the American Band College Masters Degree program, and Bandworld Online Magazine (an international online band magazine designed to help band directors and their students). If your son or daughter is interested in auditioning for the 36th WIBC, have them see their band director, or visit the WIBC website (www.bandworld.org/wibc) for more information. Students can download audition materials, see pictures from past honor band conventions, and apply for the 36th convention, which will take place November 21-24, 2014 in Seattle, Washington.!
