The St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP) serves youth who are rising juniors and seniors in high school, students who are seeking challenging opportunities in private sector businesses, public agencies, or nonprofit organizations. Each year, SLIP trains and places talented youth in summer paid internships with employers ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small local businesses in sectors ranging from healthcare and financial services to law and education. SLIP empowers young people to take critical steps toward meaningful careers. The benefits of employing SLIP students are myriad. Employing SLIP interns will:
• Bring fresh ideas, energy and creativity to your workplace• Increase diversity in your company and industry• Deliver extra help for office projects at minimal cost• Provide opportunities for employee growth through the experience of supervising interns• Offer the satisfaction of transforming a young life and giving back to our community
SLIP interns are eager to contribute to the workplace by completing authentic tasks. Interns do real work, ranging from clerical tasks to research, events support, inventory control, tutoring, and much more. Interns complete work readiness training that teaches workplace communication, problem solving, professional conduct, networking, resume writing, interviewing, and other key skills. SLIP also provides additional academic and career enrichment for interns, including industry-specific events, career readiness resources, financial literacy training, scholarships and more.

Words from our Leader!Dear Friends of SLIP,
For twenty-three years, the St. Louis Internship Program has been engaging young people in workforce development. As a proud alumna of SLIP, I know firsthand the benefits and importance that our robust internship model offers. I am a testament to the powerful and poignant life-long impact this incredible program provides. SLIP has shaped and changed my life.
Today, it is my honor to take a moment to thank the many donors and friends who have come alongside us at SLIP to make a difference in the lives of our St. Louis youth. In 2014, we had the opportunity to provide job training to over 200 students – and we placed 104 students in paid summer internships!
In addition, our high school alumni engaged in college and career readiness activities ranging from college visits to a career development program. I am ecstatic every time we get a phone call, email, or visit from one of our alumni, people who are now firmly planted in professional careers and looking to give back to a program that has provided them with a firm foundation.
SLIP is committed to providing a quality, year-round program that offers opportunities to our community’s most valuable assets – our students. As an organization, we have never wavered in our intention to provide St. Louis youth with paid work experiences and professional, on-the-job readiness training.
Without the life-changing support of our donors and friends, we could not provide such a powerful and effective program. Please accept my personal and sincere thanks for all that you have done during our 23-year tenure. With your continued support, we will strive to open a world of opportunity for even more St. Louis youth. I’m excited to move forward with you into 2015, finding even greater opportunities to advance the futures of our St. Louis youth!
With my sincerest thanks,
SHANISE JOHNSON, Program Director & Alumna

I believe the youth in our community should have a meaningful opportunity to pursue the American Dream. The majority of us are born into circumstances where access to such an opportunity is virtually assured. For those less fortunate, investing in their education is essential to providing them with the means to achieve that dream and become productive members of our society and positive contributors to its growth and well-being. SLIP students receive an expanded sense of the possibilities for their future and a heightened level of self-confidence, which greatly increases their chances of succeeding in their post-secondary education (which more than 90% pursue) and careers.
