Worship at Bridlewood Worship Services

Morning Service………………10:30 a.m. Evening Service……………… 7:00 p.m.

Sunday Morning Worship The Sunday morning worship service at Bridlewood is the primary corporate gathering of our church family where we celebrate, commemorate and anticipate God's story. The content of worship is Trinitarian, focusing on Jesus who fulfills all that the Father God requires and our participation in worship is enabled and empowered by the Holy Spirit. In recent years, we have been following the Church year as a discipling tool to ground our lives within the story of Jesus. Although our preaching/teaching has not followed the lectionary passages, the worship services are informed by seasonal Church and cultural events (Advent, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc.) The structure of corporate worship at Bridlewood has developed to follow a fourfold order of worship, moving through a time of Gathering before the Word, incorporating a Table/Response and concluding with a Sending. Each of these 'folds' move us through a worship journey that respects the dialogue taking place between God and his covenant people. This pattern facilitates a rhythm of revelation and response where God speaks (reveals) and invites our participation (response). In the service of the GATHERING, we are formed as God’s people in unity, responding to his presence and revelation while preparing to receive his Word. This is a time of praise, confession and celebration. In the service of the WORD, we hear God speaking to his people through Scripture reading and the preaching/teaching ministry. In the service of the TABLE/RESPONSE, we respond to God’s Word through Jesus. The good news is that Jesus has done for us what we could not do for ourselves. We celebrate/commemorate this at the TABLE where our participation in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus grounds our faithful response to what God is saying to us through his Word. At Bridlewood, we celebrate the Lord's Supper quarterly in the morning worship service (and twice more in our evening service) for an average of once every two months.

Bridlewood Presbyterian Church – Congregational Profile page 16

In weeks when we don’t gather around the TABLE, we still have a “TABLE-shaped” response, rooted in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. In the service of the SENDING, God blesses his people and charges them to love and serve others, on mission with God. The worship services are planned by the Worship Director (Ken Michell), in consultation with the Minister. Musically, the worship service incorporates a diversity of styles including contemporary and traditional elements such as choir, organ and praise team. These varied elements are often expressed in collaboration and serve to remind us we are rooted in a rich history while participating in the present culture and context. Bridlewood Towdah Choir Ministry

“…the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to minister to Him, and to be His ministers…” 2 Chronicles 29:11

Our choir ministry seeks to intentionally carry out our larger vision at Bridlewood “knowing Christ and making Him known.” The choir ministry is led by Nicole Michell and currently has approximately twelve members. Our choir is named after the Hebrew term Towdah as we seek to be a choir of worshippers with our hands extended in adoration, confession, praise, and the giving and offering of thanks. The heart of our choir ministry is to learn to be the kind of worshippers our Father deserves and desires by living out the lyrics we sing. We also delight to minister and serve His people utilizing music to share the gospel story, to bring healing, refreshment, encouragement and edification to His people. Our choral repertoire ranges in style; yet focuses on content that shares the truth of the gospel message. Through the lyrics we proclaim who God is, testify to what He has done on our behalf, and celebrate who we are in Him! On average we sing three anthems per month in addition to assisting the worship team (under Ken Michell’s direction) with the leading of the congregational singing. The choir meets in the sanctuary on Thursday evenings from 7:30 – 9:30 pm for rehearsals from September through to June. We are grateful to have accompaniment provided by Maureen McCullough. Our rehearsals include learning four part harmony for our anthems, learning new hymns or choruses to teach to the congregation, as well as gathering together for prayer and fellowship. We also meet on Sunday mornings at 10:00 am to rehearse our anthem, review the order of service details, and to intercede in prayer together before our corporate gathering.

The choral director collaborates together with the Pastor and Worship Director (Ken Michell) in the worship planning. In addition to working together with the worship team for selected choral musical arrangements the choir director has also worked with the children and youth in order to involve their gifts in worship.

Christian Education

Nursery The nursery is run by a dedicated group of volunteers who provide a caring and safe environment for babies and toddlers throughout the church service. The facilities offer many options to cater to the needs of both child and parent, while a variety of toys, books, and activity stations will keep them engaged. Children from the nursery are always invited and welcomed to the songs and group activities from the Sunday School, helping them transition to the classes when they are ready. Sunday School The Christian education program at Bridlewood Presbyterian Church has been designed to coincide with the vision and values of our church and to come alongside parents as they lead and raise their families in Christ-centered families. Gifted volunteers provide weekly lessons during the sermon time to creatively and interactively teach children and youth in age-specific classes about God and His Word. Joint times of action-orientated worship songs, giving offering, and group activities enhance the learning and give opportunities for the students to participate in living out their faith together. Youth Group Our youth group provides a safe and welcoming place to discover and dive deeper into knowing who God is and who He has called us to be. Filled with lots of fun events, meaningful relationships, and delicious snacks, this fellowship continues to encourage youth to grow in life and faith within the context of a Christian community, creative expressions and teaching, and missional living. Many students have joined as a result of being a part of the JFK Day Camp and have continued to get to know and be a part of the church family through worship services and special events. Just For Kids Day Camp As a tradition at Bridlewood, the JFK Day Camp has continued to reach out to meet the needs of families and be a means to serve our community. Over the years, hundreds of children have attended the two-week summer

program, enjoying arts & crafts, sports, Bible lessons, trips, and many other activities. The Section Leader and Leaders-In-Training program has given local youth opportunities to volunteer and be discipled, while growing in leadership and missional living. This vision of this ministry has led to continuing to serve families through the P.A. Day and March Break Camps and most recently, local and international mission opportunities.

Family Ministry One of the values of our church family is to be a multi-generational and multi-cultural community that can worship, grow, and share in the journey of life and faith with each other. We promote the strengthening of families through our services and are inclusive in many of the church’s ministries and events. Whether taking communion as a family unit, parent small groups, or enjoying each other’s company while skating at a local ice rink, Bridlewood is committed to building up families and to prioritize it as a primary ministry in our lives.

Missions At Bridlewood, there is a major emphasis on missions. The passion for this ministry is driven by our mission statement, ‘To know Christ and to make him known’. According to the missions Policy and Procedure document, the annual budget ‘reflects the church’s vision, current priorities and financial situation’. The total budget for 2014 is $62,725 (including amounts to Presbyterian Sharing: PWS&D and the Ministerial Assistance Fund). The aforementioned amount represents approximately seventeen percent of the church’s budget. There are twelve local and foreign missions that are supported by the church. Funds are also set aside to support global and local special projects. Through Sunday morning mission spots and newsletters the congregation is updated on the activities and prayer requests of those who are supported.
