As a Florida licensed veterinarian, your biennial license renewal deadline is May 31, 2014. The Florida Board of Veterinary Medicine will be mailing license renewal notices around February 28. You should receive your renewal notice by the end of March, but if not, we strongly suggest you contact the Board and ensure your contact information is accurate, since failure to receive notification during this period does not relieve you of the responsibility of meeting the requirement. 

Florida Administrative Code, Rule 61g18-30.001 Disciplinary Guidelines (nn), Failing to report a change of address to the Board within sixty (60) days thereof: The usual action of the Board shall be an administrative fine of one thousand dollars ($1,000).

The FVMA is not the licensing board. You can renew your Florida license online at www.MyFloridaLicense.com, by calling the customer contact center at (850) 487-1395 with a credit card or by returning the renewal notice to the Board of Veterinary Medicine with the appropriate fee.  Non-renewed licenses will go into a delinquent status for two years and then subsequently go null and void.  If a licensee allows his license to go null and void and then later requests reinstatement, a new application must be made, and current requirements for licensure met.  Those who practice without an active license are subject to fines and penalties.  It is your responsibility to ensure that the department has the correct contact information on file and to renew your license in a timely manner.  

In order to renew your license, you must have completed a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education between June 1, 2012 and May 31, 2014, of which one hour must be in the area of dispensing legend drugs, and two hours in the area of laws and rules governing the practice of veterinary medicine.

If you haven’t completed these requirements, the FVMA offers a 3-hour combined online self-study course that will satisfy this requirement.  This course is an invaluable reference resource, and subscribers will be allowed access to the course portal for three years following the May 31 license renewal deadline.
