Guidelines

OBJECTIVE

Korean Language and Culture Program is a specially designed, two and a half-week-long program

for international students, who want to learn the practical Korean language in real life. Instead of

just standardized lectures in classrooms, the participants will be provided opportunities to

participate in various activities to enhance their knowledge and understanding of the Korean

culture and customs. Participants will be divided into two groups, Basic and Intermediate, based on

their level of Korean language proficiency.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Total Class Hours: 32 Total Given Credits: 2

Number of field trips: 11

*Classes are held 3 hours per day except Tuesdays (4 hrs/day)

All students are automatically included in all field trips without additional charge.

Partial discounts and/or refunds will not be given for missing out on activities and trips.

FEES & ACCOMODATION

Program Fee: 1,400,000 KRW (living expenses not included)

Deposit Fee (non-refundable) : 100,000 KRW

On-campus housing: 170,000 KRW (4/rm) , 255,000 KRW (2/rm)

On-campus housing breakfast (optional) : 4,500 KRW per meal

A two-day trip to Kang-ryeung, a historically-rich city with

beautiful scenery. This weekend getaway includes visits to cultural

sites and chances to experience traditional Korean art culture and

make their own artworks to take back home. Students will also

visit one of the most famous beaches in Korea.

There are three student club activities that are taught by

professional MJU students. Taekwondo (Korean martial arts),

K-POP Dance (modern Korean pop music) and Korean Caligraphy

Writing. At the end of the program, students will have a chance

to shate with their friends what they've learned through

performances.

Students benefit from the Korean language courses offered at

MJU nased on their individual needs, and the curriculum includes

speaking (practice in converstaion), listening, reading and writing.

Students will be placed in different level depending on their

placement test results. Students are not required to know Korean.

Curiosity is enough to learn.

Cooking Bulgogi

Bibap Performance Show is non-verbal, delicious Korean musical

that will tease students' taste buds. This musical expresses food

with b-boying, beat-box and drumming.

It is an award-winning nationally reknowned performance show

that will delight international students.

Insadong is a district located in the heart of Seoul. It is filled with

traditional art shops, historical sites, and souvenir shops. Students

will be able to learn about Korean history, visit different art

galleries, taste Korean traditional snacks and cusines, experience

Korean culture and purchase souvenirs.

Bulgogi is one of Korea's most famous dish. It is marianated beef

that is loved by many foreigners around the world. Students will

have a chance to cook it by themselves in a professional cooking

session and enjoy the food along with other international

students and MJU students.

Korea's palaces are famous for their beautiful color and

magnificent architectural style. Students will visit the most famous

palace in Korea and experience the lives of oldern days in Seoul.

They will also visit the National Folk Museum that exhibits

historical relics and national treasures.

Gwanghwamun is the main and largest gate of Gyeongbokgung

Palace, in Seoul. It is the landmark and symbol of Seoul's long

history as the capital city during the Joseon Dynasty.

Gyeongbokgung, also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace or

Gyeongbok Palace, is a royal palace. The National Folk Museum

of Korea well captures Korean folklife with its exhibitions of

Korean folklife artifacts.

Tongin Market is a traditional market with many small stores,

food stalls, souvenirs shops and restaurants all squeezed in the

alleyways of Seochon in central Seoul. Students can experience

Korean street food, traditional snacks and artistic displays.

The Han River is a major river in South Korea and the fourth

longest river on the Korean peninsula. Its surrounding areas have

played an important role in Korean history. The Three Kingdoms

of Korea strove to take control of this land, where the river was

used as a trade route to China. The cruise ride will allow students

to take an overall view of the Seoul city.

Coex is a business and cultural hub located in the heart of

Gangnam, Seoul’s business district. It is a popular entertainment

destination in Seoul for both domestic and foreign visitors, and

welcomes an average of 150,000 people on a daily basis. It is

Asia’s largest underground shopping complex adjacent to an

Aquarium.

COEX

Cheonggyecheon is a modern public recreation space in

downtown Seoul. It was newly installed in 2005 as part of the

urban renewal project. The project was developed with the

purpose of preserving the unique identity of the natural

environment and the historic resources of Seoul, and to reinforce

the surrounding business area with information technology,

international atmosphere and digital industries. It has now

become a popular spot among city residents and tourists.

The Paintets: Hero is an innovative art performance that states

mind-blowing skills of live drawing with incredible visual effects

filled with a witty blend of mime, water art, dance and comedy.

Selective students are given opportunities to participate during

the show.
