Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for joining us at our 2014 MonArc Awards - the first of many annual MonArc Awards we plan to host from this year forward. Over the past decade, The Arc of Atlantic County has hosted its annual Tribute Dinners to recognize those who make a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The events raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for our Recreation, Case Management and Family Support services. They’ve paid tribute to emeritus board members, senators, collegiate sport coaches, local agencies and support groups, and even a member of the Kennedy family.

But this year, we wanted to create something that was more closely tied to our mission - something that not only celebrated those who help make our work possible, but also a person we support who is achieving her great-est potential. We wanted to create an event we could host each year, with

a strong brand and a powerful mission-centered program. We found all of this in the MonArc Awards concept.

A monarch butterfly newly emerged from its chrysalis, wings wet with life, cautiously and carefully unfolds its wings, relying on the warmth of the sun and the breeze to ready itself for flight. This is the image that inspired the MonArc Butterfly Award, which we will present tonight to Annie Damiano, a young woman in our services who is truly emerging, finding her wings and soaring to new heights and possibilities. You’ll read and hear more about Annie later. You’ll learn more about how Annie is achieving her full potential – and inspiring people everywhere she goes.

Our very first MonArc Individual and Corporate Citizenship Award honorees are some of our most dedicated and supportive friends - in fact, in the five short years since they first proposed a golf tournament to benefit our programs, they’ve become much like family. We are proud and immensely honored to celebrate the substantial contributions of Irv Singer, Steve Kuhl and Joe DiMedio of I. Rice and Company. Because of their vision and personal commitment the I. Rice and Company Golfing for Good Tournament has raised more than $250,000 for The Arc’s Recreation programs. They are truly an inspiration to us and to our community in Atlantic County.

Thank you for your support and participation in tonight’s inaugural MonArc Awards Dinner. Together we are making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families and loved ones in Atlantic County.

Sincerely,

Michael J. David-Wilson, CFREChief Executive Officer

Dear Guests and Honorees,

I am pleased to be here tonight as Event Chairman and Emcee of the 2014 MonArc Awards. I’m also very proud to be here as a member of The Arc of Atlantic County’s board of directors, a member of presenting sponsor Cape Bank Charitable Foundation’s board of directors, and most importantly - as the father of a young woman with Down syndrome. As you can imagine, The Arc’s mission is close to my heart, both personally and professionally.

Several years ago, Cape Bank Charitable Foundation established a partnership with several charitable organizations in the Atlantic and Cape May County area, and The Arc of Atlantic County is one of those organizations. Our goal is to assist in the enhancement of quality of living through the support of these organizations, who are dedicated to providing health and human services. The partnership features a multi-year commitment of resources and financial support.

This year, Cape Bank Charitable Foundation was entering the fourth year of a five-year, $225,000 pledge to The Arc when we decided to double our 2014 pledge amount from $50,000 to $100,000. We are hopeful that this $50,000 gift will serve as a challenge to community members and business-es to contribute gifts which together match our gift. The Arc is hoping to raise another $50,000 by June 30, 2014.

Each one of us in this room is making a difference in the lives of people with intellectual and devel-opmental disabilities just by being here tonight to support our honorees. But we all have the power and ability to do even more. I ask you tonight to consider how you can make your mark and make an even bigger difference. Perhaps you can make a small monthly contribution to The Arc of Atlan-tic County, or maybe you can consider including The Arc in your estate plans. You can join us at our annual Step Up for The Arc Walk, or volunteer at one of our thrift stores. You can become a volun-teer in our Special Olympics sports programs, or host an Arc AnGels candle party in your home. But even if all you can give is a smile and friendship to someone with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, that too is enough to make a big difference in someone’s life.

Thank you for joining us!
