is with great pleasure that we congratulate the chapter as they gather to celebrate and present these outstanding young ladies to the community.
The chapter is committed to the mission of providing participants, ranging from seven to eleven years of age, with exposure to charm, etiquette and cultural activities. Through these programs, the chapter strives to strengthen and enrich their existing foundation. The Little Miss Jabberwock is the culminating event for these growth and development programs.
Best wishes and congratulations to the eleven precious gems participating in this elegant event. It is my prayer that God continues to bless and order your steps as you walk into your destiny and fulfill your purpose. It is important to understand that the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. have faith in you and wish you continuous success in all of your future endeavors.

Greetings Sorors and Friends,
On behalf of the members of the Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, I extend warmest greetings to our 12th Biennial Little Miss Jabberwock Pageant.
It was evident at each Little Miss Jabberwock activity how well this group of young ladies were bonding with each other and establishing friendships for years. We have enjoyed each other’s company as they have attended the various cultural, educational, and social activities that were planned for them the past six months.
I extend my deepest appreciation to each contestant and thank you for your courage, enthusiasm, confidence, and positive attitudes and deportment during this process. To the parents, thank you for your time, patience, efforts, cooperation, and entrusting your daughters to us. To the businesses, organizations, donors, and patrons, thank you for your support. With everyone’s support, the proceeds from the Pageant will enable the sorority to continue awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors in our service areas which includes the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and the city of Fredericksburg.
To the Little Miss Jabberwock Co-Chairs and Steering Committee, my heartfelt thanks. You have planned tirelessly and stayed true to your commitment to ensure that each contestant has an enjoyable and memorable experience; mission accomplished. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated“History”
At the inception of Delta Sigma in 1913 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., the Founders envisioned an organization of college women pledged to serious endeavor and community service. Those youthful students demonstrated a vital concern for social aspects of sorority life. Their ideals of scholarship and service have withstood the test of time; and today Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority dedicated to a program of sharing membership skills and organizational services in the public interest.
In 1930, Delta Sigma Theta was incorporated as a national organization. The record of incorporation is filed in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Today, there are over 200,000 members and 900+ chapters in the United States and chapters in W. Germany, the Virgin Islands, Nassau, Bahamas and W. Africa.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated“Fredericksburg Alumnae Chapter’s History”
The Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered by seventeen members on August 16, 1980. To increase the membership for greater public service, eight college women were inducted into the local chapter in May 1983. The need for more women dedicated to the ideals and traditions of our beloved so-rority resulted in fourteen new initiates in December 1988, twenty-one in April 1993, thir-teen in April 1999, nine in April 2005, and seventeen in April 2010. There are currently 104 active members in the local chapter.
Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority, and to that end, the Fredericksburg chapter has been extremely active in supporting numerous community service programs. The “Jabberwock” is one of the Sorority’s major projects whose primary purpose is to raise funds to benefit area high school students through awarding scholarships.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated“The Origin and Significance of the Jabberwock“
The first Jabberwock was presented in 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts by members of the Iota Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. The original idea was conceived by Marion Conover Hope as an innovative method of raising money for Iota Chapter’s scholarship fund. A variety show with groups and individuals producing skits, dances and songs was the end result.
The title “Jabberwock” was taken from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The Jabberwock, a mythical character, called together each year members of his kingdom to put together a show for entertainment purposes.
Since the initial program, The Jabberwock has become a virtual Delta institution combining cultural expressions and talent with fund-raising. Nationally, the chapters call upon various organizations and individuals in their communities and invite them to help create an evening’s program of quality entertainment.
Through the determination and persistence of Soror Carrie H. (Wy) Tatum, the Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter launched and successfully produced its first Jabberwock in 1990. She served very effectively as chairperson of the first two productions.
The Fredericksburg Chapter has worked exclusively with young girls between the ages of seven through ten in its presentations. Proceeds from the Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter’s Jabberwock are earmarked for scholarships for area high school seniors.

Miss Kayla Cherie White
Dear Family, Friends, and the Beautiful Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated:
My name is Kayla Cherie White and I am the reigning Little Miss Jabberwock. I had the fortune of being crowned in 2011 and have enjoyed this experience tremendously. I am 12 years old and I am in the 7th grade at Walker-Grant Middle School in Fredericksburg. My favorite subject is Gifted Performing Arts because I love to dance, sing, and act.
Serving as “Little Miss Jabberwock” has been an amazing experience. When I was on the stage and they called my name, my heart dropped into my stomach with excitement. I also had the opportunity to watch my sister participate in the 2004 Little Miss Jabberwock Pageant, and I really wanted to follow in her footsteps.
I’d like to thank my parents, David and Deirdre, for their love and support. They make me feel better when I am down, and I love them even when they try to be “cool” or “hip” around my friends. In addition, I’d like to thank my sister, Kiersten, for always being there for me - even when she kicks me out of her room.
Moreover, I would like to thank the ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. This is a group of amazing women who serve our community and look good doing it! They are teachers, mentors, and community leaders who have taught me the importance of “giving back” to those in need. I hope to one day be a part of this great sorority.
In closing, I’d like to thank the Fredericksburg community for supporting my journey to become Little Miss Jabberwock 2011 and for your presence here this evening. It will be a bitter/sweet moment when I pass the crown tonight; but I wish the very best to each of the contestants. Good luck and congratulations to all!
Love, Kayla Cherie White

Acknowledgements
The members of the Fredericksburg Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, extend our sincere gratitude to all who contributed to the success of our Twelfth Biennial Little Miss Jabberwock Pageant. We give our heartfelt thanks to parents for your untiring patience, sacrifices, commitment and fund-raising efforts throughout the entire Jabberwock program. The young ladies have been enthusiastic participants and we appreciate the opportunity to have worked with them as part of this Delta tradition. We thank each of them for their enthusiasm and cooperation and share their expectations for a bright future. We hope that this has been a reward-ing experience for them and the basis for lasting friendships.
We are grateful to all relatives, friends, businesses and organizations for their generous support in this endeavor. Through your support, we can continue to provide scholarships to graduating seniors in our service area to include Caroline, Fredericksburg City, King George, Spotsylania and Stafford Counties. We encourage patronage of the many businesses represented in this journal.
Our program participants, those in attendance tonight and many others, have also helped to make this pageant a reality. We thank each of you for your assistance, your encouragement and your presence.
