Pre-registrationPre-registration is required. Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to minimum enrollment requirements, you are encouraged to sign up at least seven business days before the first session. In all classes except online classes, once the minimum enrollment requirement is met, registrations will be accepted until the start date if space is available. For online classes, the registration deadline is one week before the class begins.

Registering a friend or co-workerYou may register yourself and others. A separate form (or online registration) must be submitted for each person. Information required for each person – such as address, birth date and Social Security number – must be included.

Registration confirmationKCC will send a confirmation of registration if it is requested. The confirmation will include a receipt, your beginning and end course dates, classroom location and any additional information.

Waiting listsIf the class you want to take is full, ask to be placed on a waiting list. If another class is opened, you will be contacted.

Instructor absencesInstructors rarely miss classes, but if a session is unexpectedly canceled, every effort will be made to call you. However, since this often happens on short notice, a sign will be posted at the class location.

Weather cancellationsWhen KCC campus closes due to inclement weather, Continuing Education and Career Services classes are postponed. Classes canceled due to weather will be rescheduled. Visit www.kcc.edu/severeweatherclosings for information on notifications.

Cancellation policyIf a class must be canceled by KCC, those who have enrolled will receive full refunds. The college will make every attempt to notify participants in advance of cancellations. Refunds from credit card payments will be made in the form of a credit to the cardholder’s account.

Withdrawal policyParticipants may withdraw and receive full refunds, minus a $3 service fee, until two working days before the first session of class. After that point, no refunds will be given. Withdrawals are accepted by phone at 815-802-8207, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Our instructorJennifer IrigoyenJennifer Irigoyen makes the learning experience fun for all attendees. She has a passion for technology and can talk about technical processes in a way everyone can

understand. A veteran of the information technology field for more than 20 years, Irigoyen has a wide range of knowledge including web design, computer programming, virtualization, network security, and PC diagnostics and repair. She also is knowledgeable about the latest tech trends and products. Irigoyen is a computer programmer II for the Information Technology Services Department at KCC and also has taught at Joliet Junior College. She has several Microsoft Certifications, a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio, and is pursuing a master’s degree in management information systems at Governors State University in University Park.

Spanish Interpretation: MedicalInterpreters are needed in medical environments to assist clients who do not communicate in English. Language barriers can prevent access to services which can leave clients at risk of receiving inappropriate health care. This course will provide interpreters with a strong foundation in the profession of medical interpreting. Interpreters will practice their skills in real-world simulation experiences. The course covers the Role of the Interpreter, Interpreter Protocol, Code of Ethics, Standards of Practice, Medical Terminology, Body Systems and their functions, Cultural Competency, Title VI and HIPAA. Career SkillsPreventive and Predictive Maintenance Equipment Best PracticesThis training will discuss and demonstrate how keeping equipment operating within design limits will minimize environmental risks, reduce maintenance and operational cost and energy usage. The training will identify how to maintain equipment resulting in electrical, gas, and fuel savings, as well as increasing capacity through the elimination of downtime.

CNA Re-Certification A process for those who are no longer on the Illinois Health Care Worker Registry.

4-steps to re-certify:1. Contact the Illinois Department of Public Health at 217-785-5133 or email [email protected] and ask if you are eligible to recertify. If yes, request a recertification packet.

2. Complete a fingerprint-based criminal history records check. Fingerprint background check cost varies based upon the IDPH-vendor the applicant chooses. Do not proceed to the next step until the criminal history check is successfully completed.

3. Schedule a date and time to complete the 21 manual skills test with an IDPH-approved evaluator. The cost for the 21 manual skills test is $199. To schedule a time, contact KCC’s Office of Continuing Education and Career Services at 815-802-8207. Upon successful completion of the manual skills test, IDPH will mail you a second packet to register for the written exam.

When the Presenting Problems are the SolutionMany adolescents exposed to trauma view their presenting problems as a solution to their traumatic experiences. These presenting problems can include alcohol and drug use, process addictions, sexual acting out, cutting, destructive peer group affiliation, suicidal behavior, etc. These behaviors serve as distractions and can numb the pain of the trauma and may cause greater damage in the long-run than the traumatic events themselves. After training, you’ll be prepared for an entry-level position in the trucking industry.KCC’s Truck Driver Training program works with many trucking companies that will pre-hire students. The fact is, truck driving is one of the few occupations where students who complete training are almost certain to go to work immediately. Most students receive several job offers prior to completion of the program.

Meet our clientWedding Belles Consignment BoutiqueAs a young couple planning their wedding, Melanie and Casey Devore saw that the Kankakee area needed more wedding resources – from the dress to the decor and rentals. They started a linen and wedding decoration business in 2010. Then, in late 2012, they opened Wedding Belles Consignment Boutique, 368 S. Schuyler Ave. in Bradley. “We are currently the top seller locally for young girls coming from Bradley, Bourbonnais, Manteno, Peotone, Herscher, Clifton and many other schools,” Melanie said.

In January 2014, Melanie and Casey accepted an offer for Wedding Belles to join with The Wedding Center. One large shop will now offer new and “once loved” and sample gowns. In June, Wedding Belles will permanently move to The Wedding Center's location at 165 E. Bethel Drive in Bourbonnais.

“I believe that by being in the wedding business and the reputation we have in the community will aid us in growing The Wedding Center as a business and another great resource for brides,” Melanie said. “The current owners are equally excited to bring us in as a new point of view with fresh ideas and an updated business sense.

Our instructorDiana Mullins-AtkinsonDiana Mullins-Atkinson is a knit and crochet designer with her own small online business, “Oz Dust Designs by the Green Girl Studio.” Mullins-Atkinson

has been involved in needle and fiber crafts for more than 45 years. She teaches numerous techniques as well as project and design classes in both knitting and crochet. Mullins-Atkinson also designs specialty patterns for charitable promotions. English as a Second Language (ESL)All English as a Second Language classes are provided at no cost to the student. The classes are designed for foreign-born adults who would like to improve their English language speaking and writing skills. Instructors and tutors work with students in small groups. There are five levels of classes, to help students at every stage of learning.

Adult Parenting ProgramKCC’s Adult Parenting Program is a unique part of KCC’s adult education system. The parenting program offers parenting and anger management classes for KCC’s students and the community. Home visits, transportation and child care are offered to individuals who qualify. These classes are approved by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services and by the Illinois Department of Corrections.
