HorseFeathers There was a time when Chelsea Farmer and her mom, Tammy Asher, shipped orders from their house while they were in their yoga pants. But that has quickly changed in the five years since HorseFeathers Gifts was born out of Farmer’s imagination. “We started out with just beaded jewelry after I took online classes at the Gemological Institute of America,” says Farmer. “Mainly, we just do fun, colorful jewelry with an inspirational message and a way to brighten up your everyday wardrobe.”

Now, with a website and a storefront in downtown Henderson, Farmer and her mother manage a full-time business

whose popularity has spread across the country and onto the wrists, ears and necks of a number of celebrities, including Martha Stewart, Paula Dean, Kevin Sorbo, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth.

Farmer attributes the explosion in business to word of mouth and its technical counterpart, social media. “We’ve had a lot of luck with social media,” she says. “People feel like they know us.”

Farmer wants to make sure everyone knows that HorseFeathers’ jewelry is made from reclaimed metals, they work with fair-trade suppliers, and every item is personally crafted—even the stamped jewelry. “It’s me

with a hammer and hand-stamping each piece,” she says. “Everybody thinks it’s made in a factory, but we do make every single piece handmade.”

This work not only allows their creative juices to flow, but it also provides the duo the means to financially support several animal rights groups. “I just love animals, and our family has a big heart for animals,” Farmer says. “People would drop off an orphaned baby deer to our Webster County farm, where we now have lots of horses, cats and dogs.”

Farmer says they happily give to the ASPCA, Upward Dog Rescue, the Arrow Fund and other animal groups. “We always add new ones ... we try to spread it all over, not just our area,” she says. 270-635-3904 | horsefeathersgifts.com

HorseFeathers offers more than 20 color combinations of its hand-dyed silk ribbon that

forms the basis of their popular silk wrap bracelets, which come with your choice of an

array of accent pieces in bronze and silver—or even a color-changing mood bead.

$18 - $58

Give a uniquely personalized necklace, which features a loved one’s fingerprint or paw print

(or even a pet’s nose print). Make an impression using the wax mold kit that is sent

upon ordering, then return it and your print will be cast and hand-sculpted from fine silver.

Round and heart-shaped pendants are available.

Art to Go The colorful, intricately designed, wearable art from Georgetown’s BSpoken Designs is a collaboration between artists James C. Rich and Diana Smith Thomas.
