Achieving large-scale impact in education, income, health and basics needs in Central Florida requires a collective effort. This means organizing cross-sector collaborations to drive positive, sys-temic change. Heart of Florida United Way’s vision is for us to engage all citizens to work together to build healthy, safe, caring and strong communities.

Serving Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties for over 70 years, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) is Central Florida’s most comprehensive and largest funder for the region’s most critical health and human service programs. Last year, it raised and managed $24.5 million to help Central Floridians in need. HFUW is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income, health and alleviating hunger and homelessness. It also operates United Way 2-1-1, a 24/7 crisis and information referral helpline; a Volunteer Resource Center; a Gifts In Kind Center; a Stewardship program that works with agencies to provide emergency assistance; and the Ryan White Part B program, which administers more than $2 million to provide HIV/AIDS services and referrals. United Way impacts more people annually than any charity operating in the tri-county area, and partners with local organizations and individuals to inspire hope, provide options and create opportunities for people in need. In 2012, HFUW was awarded Charity Navigator’s highest “Four-Star Rating” for exceeding industry standards in fiscal management and outper-forming other charities in its area of focus. To learn more about HFUW’s mission or work in the Central Florida community, visit www.HFUW.org.

Dear Community and Business Leaders,

The Heart of Florida United Way is preparing for the 22nd Chef’s Gala, which will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014. Thanks to our friends at Walt Disney World, the event will be held at Epcot® World Showplace.

Last year marked the 21st anniversary of Chef’s Gala, our largest and most successful event ever. More than 1,100 individuals enjoyed fine wines paired with signature dishes prepared by more than 20 of the region’s top chefs. Over the past two decades, Chef’s Gala has become Central Florida’s premier fine dining and wine pairing charitable event benefiting Heart of Florida United Way.

Although the darkest days of the recession may be behind us, its aftermath continues to leave an indelible mark on our community. Nearly one out of five Central Floridians still lives in poverty. One way you can make a difference is by supporting Chef’s Gala through sponsorship or donation of a silent auction item.

Ninety-five percent of the dollars raised go back to the Orange, Seminole and Osceola communities to support those in need. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Marta Vargas, Heart of Florida United Way Director of Affinity Partnerships at 407-835-0923.

We need you, and we need your support. Together, we have the power to transform lives. In the end, when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are healthy, we all win.

It is our pleasure to serve as co-chairs of this year’s event. Please join us and others who have been supporting Chef’s Gala as “A Tasteful Way to Make a Difference” in Central Florida for 22 years.

With Warm Regards,

Mr. John Pisan, CFP Regional Managing Director and Senior Vice President Wells Fargo Wealth Management Group Co-Chair, 2014 Chef’s Gala
