Cancellation Policy: Because St. Charles Community College Continuing Education (non-credit) classes are self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of people enrolled. The college reserves the right to cancel if sufficient enrollment is not achieved.

Registrations need to be received at least one week prior to the start of class to be considered in the determination of whether to cancel the class. An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a class is cancelled. Full refunds will be issued for classes cancelled by the college.

Ex-plore a way to be helpful or charitable and choose a project to make for your favorite charity. Plant a garden, learn Spanish, eat chocolate fondue, create a scrapbook and more!

Geocaching – The Search for Treasure! (Ages 7-12)Welcome to the “high-tech” treasure hunt. Join us for one of the fastest growing outdoor activities. Using handheld GPS units, you will hike SCC for buried caches. Be the first group to master reading a map and coordinates, learn the importance of maintaining your logbook and use Internet sites to update data that can be used by other hunters. After this week, you will be able to direct your own family on a similar adventure. Bring your GPS to camp if you have one. NO AFTER-CARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS CAMP.

Broadway Musical Theater Revue (Ages 10-16)Perform in a musical revue! You will get a chance to pick music from such contemporary shows such as Little Shop of Horrors, The Little Mermaid, High School Musical and Grease and participate in cho-reographed routines. Vocal instruction and dance terminology will be taught as you work on the revue. A performance will be held on Friday.

Percy Jackson Olympians, Lightning Thief Camp (Ages 8-12)Join Percy and his friends as mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus walk straight out of the pages of Percy’s Greek mythology textbook right into this fun and imaginative camp. Do you have what it takes to fight your way through a world of mythological monsters and dangerous demi-gods? If you find your way to camp half-blood, you just may learn to fight like a real hero, save mythological creatures and battle the powers of the underworld. Only you can complete your quest (with the help of your friends, of course!).

Young Artists Camp (Ages 5-6)Get ready for fun! Eric Carle’s The Hungry Caterpil-lar and The Grouchy Ladybug books will be the in-spiration as we create art projects based on his color-ful books. Sculpt a favorite character or animal with paper mache, design a mobile for the garden, eat a fruit caterpillar and more. We will walk to the library next door for story time and visit the area garden to see nature up close.

LeGO® Robotics engineering Camp (Ages 7-9) LEGOs® + Robots + Computers = Education, the LEGO® way! Designed for younger LEGO® builders, you will build LEGO® models featuring working sen-sors and motors, simple programming techniques, principles of simple and complex machines, and gearing your own creativity. This experience allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design. Digital Photography Photoshop (Middle School) Unleash the photographer in you! Discover Adobe Photoshop and all the amazing things that it can do. Use Photoshop to easily edit and enhance photos from your digital photography. Get a chance to merge multiple photos together to make crazy images that can be printed and taken home. Raging Reaction Lab/Grossology (Ages 7-12) Do you love to gross people out? In this ghastly camp, you will have burping contests, learn about farts and poop shoots and make fake barf, blisters and scabs. Not gross enough? Campers will also dissect owl pellets, make slime and learn about the physi-ology of snot. There will be experiments with Mentos and Coke and we’ll make pop and bottle rockets and self-inflating balloons.

Discover the challenges that make robotics technology accessible using prob-lem-solving techniques. Teams will attempt to exploit the design weaknesses or incidental mechanical advantage of their oppo-nents’ robots. A perfect blend of math, science and fun! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem-solving and teamwork skills. Work in small groups, program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Future Inventors Manufacturing Camp (Middle and High School) Join us for this unique career exploration camp into the world of manufacturing. High school students in partnership with Component Bar Products in O’Fal-lon will design and build a product, experiencing the start-to-finish satisfaction of creating something you can show off with pride. In the process, you will learn how to do CAD design and operate various kinds of manufacturing machinery under the close super-vision of expert manufacturing trainers. Middle school students will work in teams and learn how to collaborate together to work on robotic challenges using NXT Mindstorm kits and the newest technol-ogy – EV3 LEGO® Kits. Both groups will tour local manufacturing facilities to learn what types of jobs exist, what skills and training are required, and how those businesses are developed. You will have the op-portunity to hear directly from local manufacturing company owners how they started their businesses, applying basic entrepreneurship principles to under-stand how a single product idea becomes a business. Whether you aspire to work in manufacturing or medicine, law or any other field, having a basic un-derstanding of how things are made and how busi-nesses develop will make you more appreciative of the world around you and the tools you will use in your life. Computer Game Design (Middle School) Don’t just play the game – make it! Introduction into the awesome world of video game creation. Design your own arcade games, platform games, adventures and screensavers. You select your own heroes and monsters. Business and Industry Program: Developing the Current WorkforceThe Business and Industry Program of St. Charles Community College has been a lead-ing force in the St. Charles County business community since 1992.

The Business and Industry Program works with large and small employers to identify job skills and training needs for thousands of workers and employers targeting primarily St. Charles, Pike, Lincoln, Montgomery and Callaway counties.

Missouri Career Center PartnershipThe Missouri Career Center Partnership is a fed-erally funded program that provides professional job search assistance to job seekers in St. Charles County. The program is part of the Workforce In-vestment Act serving individuals who have been displaced from their jobs and are unlikely to find employment in their previous occupation. This service is provided through the St. Charles County Department of Workforce Develop-ment at the Missouri Career Center. Contact the Missouri Career Center at 636-255-6060.

Services Provided: • Job Search Assistance: Including résumé

preparation, identification of transferable skills, informational and job interviewing skills and marketing yourself to employers. Various workshops and networking oppor-tunities are provided.

• Individual Career Consultation: An individ-ual plan of action is developed to determine job search goals and career direction.

•Career Resource Center: For use by cus-tomers during their job search. Phones, copier, fax machine, IBM computers, laser printers and employer directories are avail-able. Internet access is also available.

• Job Placement Assistance: Including cur-rent labor market information and access to available job listings from area employers.

•Training Opportunities: Available for eligi-ble customers who require upgrade training or retraining into a different career. Contact our office to see if you qualify.

•Résumé Development and Critique: Gives the job seeker an excellent opportunity to en-hance his or her résumé to its fullest extent.

•Career Assessments: Various standardized formal assessments are used to allow job seekers to match their skills and tempera-ments to other occupations. This is a must for the job seeker wishing to enter into a new industry.

School-Business Programs: Investing in the Future WorkforceToday’s youths are tomorrow’s workforce. School-Business Programs has established a co-alition of educators and business leaders who work together to make a difference in the lives of young people. Pronunciation ClassesIn this class students will learn how to pay closer attention to the unique, challenging sounds of the English language. Students will actively improve their rhythm and intonation, practice aloud as a group and individually with an instructor. Stu-dents will enhance listening and communication skills through practicing better pronunciation.

High School Equivalency (HSE) TestingOn Jan. 1, 2014, the approved high school equiv-alency test for the State of Missouri became the HiSET which is offered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). This test is available only on com-puter but can be taken at various sites across Mis-souri, including St. Charles Community College. Paper and pencil high school equivalency tests are no longer offered for community test tak-ers. Registration for the HiSET is done entirely on the computer. Registration information, cost information and test scheduling can be found at www.hiset.org.

Students who register for all five equivalency tests will pay $95. These five tests must be scheduled within the span of one year. Students who wish to register and pay for tests separately will pay $32 for the first test and $22 each for the remain-ing four test sections (total of $120). All payments must be made by electronic check, debit or credit card. Please refer to the HiSET website for more detailed information (www.hiset.org). The SCC Adult Education and Literacy program can be reached at 636-922-8411.

Volunteer OpportunitiesVolunteer tutors are needed to work with adult lit-eracy students and in the HSE and ESL classrooms. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must have a clear background check. They work with individuals or small groups of students under the direction of the classroom teacher. Adult Education and Literacy (AEL/ESL/HSE)St. Charles Community College coordinates a four-county effort (St. Charles, Warren, Lin-coln and Pike) to teach basic reading, math and writing skills, to prepare people to take the High School Equivalency tests (HSE) and to assist non-native speakers in gaining English proficiency. Free day and evening classes are available. Students must be at least 17 years old and not enrolled in secondary school. High School EquivalencyInstruction is available for students to improve basic skills, learn new skills and to prepare for and pass all five of the High School Equivalency tests.

English as a Second Language (ESL)ESL classes provide reading, writing, listening and speaking activities at English proficiency levels for people wishing to improve their En-glish language skills.

Citizenship PreparationClasses help students prepare for the citizenship interview. Students must have a resident card for four years or more (two years if spouse is a citizen) and at least intermediate-level English skills.

TOEFL PreparationClasses help students prepare for the Test of En-glish as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Students whose first language is not English must pass this test for admission to college.

Refund Policy: If you drop a class, you will receive a 100 percent refund if the class is dropped one business day before the first meeting. No refund will be given if the class is dropped the day of class or later.Events which may require more advanced notice to cancel include, but are not limited to, certain business and industry classes, conferences, trips, day trips and other special events. For these exceptions, refer to the LAST DAY TO CANCEL information listed in the course description. If you have a situation that warrants an override of the above policy, an explanation of the circumstances should be made in writing to the Division of Corporate and Community Development. The appropriate associate dean will review the situation to determine if a refund can be granted and will notify you accordingly. Refunds should be received within 30 days.

Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergencies, the SCC president may cancel classes and close the campus for a partial or full day.The college will update the SCC website (stchas.edu) and main number 636-922-8000, send a text message through the Emergency Alert System, and contact selected radio and television stations, when the timing of conditions allow, by 5 a.m. for day classes and no later than 4 p.m. for evening classes (if bad weather develops during the day). The college will typically update the college website and main number prior to contacting the selected radio and television stations. It is recommended to use the college’s website or main number in order to receive information in a more timely manner.

Announcements will be made on KMOX Radio (1120 AM), KSDK TV (Channel 5), KMOV TV (Channel 4), and KTVI TV (Channel 2).In the case of evening classes held at middle schools and high schools in the area, the SCC classes will not meet if it has been announced that the schools themselves are closed.
