CAS-TWAS Presidents Fellowship Programme

for PhD Candidates from Developing Countries

Call for Applications

Introduction

According to a new agreement between the Chinese Academy of

Sciences (CAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the

advancement of science in developing countries, up to 14

students!scholars from the de"eloping world will be sponsored to

tra"el to China for #h$ studies for up to four years%

This CAS&TWAS #resident's ellowship #rogramme pro"ides

students!scholars from de"eloping countries (other than China) an

opportunity to pursue #h$ degrees at the ni"ersity of Chinese

Academy of Sciences (CAS), the ni"ersity of Science and

Technology of China (STC) or *nstitutes of CAS around China%

nder the terms of the new CAS&TWAS agreement, tra"el from theirhome countries to China will be pro"ided to the fellowship awardees

in order to begin the fellowship in China (one trip only per

student!scholar)% +isa fee will also be co"ered (once only per

student!scholar)%

Thans to generous contribution of CAS, fellowship awardees will

recei"e a monthly stipend (including accommodation and other

li"ing e-penses, local tra"el e-penses and health insurance) of ./0

, or ./0 2, from CAS through CAS!STC, depending on

whether he!she has passed the 3ualication test arranged by

CAS!STC for all #h$ candidates after admission% All awardees will

also be pro"ided tuition wai"ers%

Any fellowship awardee who fails the 3ualication test twice will

face the conse3uences including5

Termination of his!her fellowship6

$iscontinuity of his!her #h$ study at CAS institutions6

0eing conferred a diploma of completion instead of a #h$

degree6All the procedures will adhere to CAS!STC regulations and rules%

The funding duration of the fellowship is 4 years, di"ided into5

/a-imum 1 year study of courses and participation in

centrali7ed training at CAS!STC, including 4 monthscompulsory courses in Chinese 8anguage and Culture%

#ractical research and completion of degree thesis at colleges

and schools of CAS!STC or CAS institutes%

degrees at any uni"ersity!institution in China cannot apply for the

CAS&TWAS #resident's fellowship%
