About
Oisins GAA club Manchester play gaelic football at senior, junior and underage. They`re one of the oldest clubs in Britain and are located in Didsbury, South Manchester. History
The club was formed in 1904 from the Craobh Oisin Gaelic League Club which was at that time based in Gaythorn Manchester. The gaelic league club was involved in promoting music, song, and dance at that time. The formation of a gaelic football club was an extention to the promotion of all Irish cultural activities in the city. The club had its home at No 7 Cheapside Manchester up until 1953/1954,at this point the Gaelic League club ceased to exist and the Oisin GAA club had no official headquarters , this situation was addressed in 1992 when they joined forces with Old Bedians Rugby and Soccer clubs, where a modern up-to-date clubhouse and playing facilities were built. Over the years the Oisin GAA club has been know as a friendly, sporting and caring family club, providing for people of all ages to foster and promote all our great Irish customs and culture. The club has promoted our native game at all levels from under 10 years to adult, enjoying many successes down through the years. In 2004 the club celebrated its Centenary Year and published a Book on its history, entitled "An Sceal" Oisin GAA Club. A copy of the book is on display in the GAA Museum in Croke Park. The club is grateful to the many great people who have been part of the club down through the years and wish the new generation of people every success in their continued promotion of our game and all our great Irish culture.

Best thing about playing for the county: Getting to play alongside
some of the best players in the county and having the opportunity to repre-
sent footballers in Britain in an All Ireland competition.
What you hope for playing for the county: Win a 5th All Br itain in a
row and make our mark in the junior All Ireland.
Best player in Lancashire county team and reason: Toss up between
Paddy Mulligan and Micheal Mooney. Both are athletes and good in the
air but Mooney's ability from a side line ball might shade it in his favour.
Comhghairdeas Wolfe Tones
Congratulations to Wolfe Tones of Liverpool who have begun to
develop an underage structure to their ever improving club. Their
opening training begins on Saturday June 21 at 10am and is open to
all children aged from 5-15 at Wavertree. The county wish them well.
Football in Kilkenny
The following piece is written by Michael Heffernan of Kilkenny who
trained underage football in the county. Michael has since moved to Derry
where he has spent numerous years as chairman of senior club Steelstown
Brian Ogs. Here he gives a reflection of his experiences.
Kilkenny has strong traditions in hurling and handball especially.
Football was once more popular, but the game has changed a lot in the
past 20 years or so and with it the levels of skill. In a county where it
is played so widely the only real competition in football is likely to
come from soccer. There are probably more Man United supporters in
Kilkenny than support any of our county teams. However football can
reinvent itself and with more imagination could have far wider appeal.
In Kilkenny there are underage leagues and championship in football
from u14 up. There are also development squads from u14 up. These
only last a few weeks in the year.
Clubs don't really train. Most people are interested in playing but no-
body organises training. I can think of several times coming up to a
big football match in underage, we would have a training session dur-
ing the week. Half the session was football and the other half hurling.
Hurling was months away.
Many schools are more organised than clubs and give players a
chance. There are many Leinster schools football medals in Kilkenny.
In every grade. O'Loughlin Gaels U14s from Kilkenny won the
All-Ireland Feile Peil Na nOg division 5 in 2011 when they beat
Wolfe Tones from Clare surely a sign of good development.
Only last year Kilkenny City girls won the Div 2 title by defeating
Moyle Rovers from Tipperary by a scoreline of 3-2 TO 1-2, a sure
sign that somebody is doing something right.
