It must embrace everything.” Perfect music for a springtime evening or afternoon, it was composed in the summer on the shores of beautiful Lake Attersee in the mountains outside Salzburg with the sounds of nature, man and emotions. BRILLIANT
SYMPHONY NO. 3
Mahler was inspired by Beethoven’s final string quartet to write his third symphony. Beethoven wrote this quartet as a farewell: Mahler took this “goodbye” and created from it a whole new world, full of wonderful possibilities. It is my favorite orchestral work and an appropriate one to conclude my years in Tucson – a community which has meant so much to me and to my family.
