1 From the Helm Gary D. Nasby- Commandant Hiram I. Bearss Det. #089 December, the end of the year, holiday season, a time for family and friends, parties, get togethers, contemplation on the past year, and what the upcoming year has in store for us. These are amongst other things, thoughts going through my head and I imagine yours. Enjoy yourself but don’t forget the reason for the season. Embrace the upcoming year as a time to renew your efforts to make yourself a better world citizen. My plan is to leave this world in a better place for my children, grand children, and friends through my efforts. I hope I can achieve it, but in any case I will try my best. After five years as your Commandant, I will be stepping down in April to let new blood and ideas take the helm of the good ship “HIB” . First nominations for my replacement will take place from the floor at our January membership meeting. Nominations will take place again in February, and March with election in March and installation in April. All officer positions to the right of this page are open to anyone who wishes to run. You can self nominate. Please take the time to read the duties of the officers which can be found here; before nominating someone: http://indymarines.org/docs/OfficerGuideBook.pdf Being an officer requires commitment, time, and the willingness to do your best for the Marine Corps League. Choose wisely on your nomination and vote. Lastly you will see many ads in this newsletter for our new venture, “Marine Barracks Indianapolis Bingo”. So far for our first few nights, I have seen only the same dedicat- ed members , with a couple of exceptions, there to help run the Bingo event. WE NEED HELP FROM ALL MEMBERS THAT ARE ABLE! This is how we are going to pay off the building mortgage and support all the good things we have planned to support our MCL oath. We can do it with the same 10% that always are there, but it would sure be a lot easier if we could up that percentage of members helping out. We need kitchen help, ticket sellers, and setup & clean up crews to name a few of the jobs available. We are not asking you to commit to every Friday night (unless you want to) but surely you can spare one once in awhile? If you don’t or can’t work, how about coming out once in awhile to play? Contact me if you are available to help out. I am available at for your comments and discussion: Semper Fidelis- Gary D.
