Activites

Game drivesOur photo safaris are conducted in open 4 wheel drive vehicles, accompanied by a game ranger and tracker. We cover much of the 18,500 ha, where the Big Five can be seen and most other animals indigenous to Kwazulu Natal, also tainted wild hunting dogs. Animals which are very rare.

Guided game walksGame walks, accompanied by a game ranger and tracker, bring you close to animal life on the savannah and the mountainous and river-ine areas of the reserve. For your protection the game ranger and tracker carry firearms.

FishingBass and fly fishing in the Mkuze river or in our well stocked dams.

Bird watchingMore than 350 species of birds have been spotted. If you can inform us before arrival, we will be happy to arrange bookings for any activities outside the reserve. Rates will be confirmed.

Lodge

Aberfeldy Lodge (5 stars SATGC) offers ac-commodation for a maximum of 12 guests in 5 luxury double rooms and 1 suite. All are con-nected by wooden walk-ways. There is a large wooden sundeck with a swimming pool, fireplace and lounge bar with distinctive African elegance. What to take with you

ClothingWe advise three sets of cotton clothing in neutral, or green/khaki colors that are sturdy and loose. Laundry is done daily, it is best to travel light. Be sure your footwear is comfortable, light, soft and well broken in. We suggest hiking boots.

SummerLightweight clothing and swim wear. A sweater for evenings and warm clothing for wildlife viewing. Rain-proof jacket.

WinterLight clothing for daytime, warm insulated jackets for early and late wildlife viewing.

Passport and visaA passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended day of departure from South Africa no visas are required for nationals from the USA, European Union, Canada, Australia, New Zeeland and Japan. When a visa is required it can be issued upon arrival.

Other accessoriesCameras and binoculars, sun hat, sun glasses, sun screen, anti-insect spray or lotion containing at least 30% DEET or a more modern version.

Rooms/Suite

All rooms are air-conditioned and have generous sized beds which will wrap guests in the comfort of down duvets and fine cotton linen. En-suite bathrooms are well appointed with scented candles, soaps and luxurious bath essences. A well-stocked minibar ensure that all guest needs are met.

The suite comprises a private splash pool with a large wooden deck, barbeque area, separate living area with satellite television, pantry and fireplace.

Kitchen

All meats are cooked in our “European” style air conditioned kitchen. Sunrise breakfast, lantern-lit dinners, delightful tailor-made picnics.

Tariff notes

Children under 6 years sharing with parents stay for free. Children from 6 years to 12 years shar-ing with parents are charged 50% of the adult rate. Tariffs are quoted in Rand and are subject to change. Inclusive 14% VAT and the Tourist levy.

Tariffs include

Accommodation, Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Morning and afternoon game drives. Daily walking safari accompanied by a game ranger and a tracker. Activities like fishing, see Activities. Transportation between airstrip and the lodge. Coffee, tea, still water and local wines Red, Rose and White are included during meal times.

Tariffs exclude

Champagne, spirits and liqueurs, telephone calls and internet connections. Air and road transfer to and from the lodge. A daily laundry service is available at an additional service charge.

Terms and conditions

50% payment of the total cost is required to confirm and secure a booking. Deposits can be made in cash, travellers cheques, credit card or electronic transfer.

In the event of a cancellation, the deposit is not refundable unless termination of the booking is received 3 months prior to the stated arrival date, in which case the deposit, less a 10% handling fee will be refunded.

Safari travel can be dangerous, although we take all necessary precautions we accept no liability for unforeseen occurrences. All guests are required to sign a personal indemnity on arrival.
