Givens led the NFL in the category last

    season.

    He posted a career-high 11 receptions

    ed an acrobatic 37-yard touchdown

catch. Givens totaled ive catches or 115

The Rams traded up eight spots in Aprils dratto select West Virginia WR Tavon Austin, whois expected to play a key role in the St. Louisoense this season.

During his All-American career with theMountaineers, Austin was a jack o all trades. As a senior, Austin was second among allFCS players in total yards with 2,910. Thosetotals included 1,289 receiving yards, which

was 11th in the country, and 643 rushingyards. Austin caught 12 touchdown passesand scored ive more on the ground. Healso handled kicko and punt return dutiesthroughout his collegiate career and could do the same in St. Louis.

Austin caught 114 passes as a senior. That number tied him or secmost in the FCS. His West Virginia teammate Stedman Bailey, who ircally the Rams selected in the third round, also had 114 receptionsseason.

When the Rams selected Austin, it marked the irst time the team taken a wide receiver in the irst round since the team took Torry sixth overall in 1999.

    WELCOME ABOARD

    WR Tavon Austin

When asked this spring about WR AustinPettis, Rams Oensive Coordinator BrianSchottenheimer said that the third year prohad the most impressive oseason o anyRams oensive player.

Although hes entering just his third NFL sea-son, Pettis is now the longest tenured Ramswide receiver. He caught 30 passes or 261yards and our touchdowns.

Pettis is looking orward to picking up wherehe let o in 2012. O his 30 receptions lastseason, more than hal (16) came in the inal

month o the season. Two o his our touchdowns also came in DecemPettis also handled punt return duties or St. Louis last year, and his ity to play multiple positions on oense will likely be an asset to the 2Rams.

Rams WR Stedman Bailey had one o the

most impressive seasons in college ootball

history last all as he caught 114 passes or

    1,622 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Bailey, who was drated by the Rams in the

third round last April, led all FCS receiv-

ers in touchdowns, inished second in yardsand tied with Mountaineers and Rams team-

mate Tavon Austin or second in the nation

    in receptions. Bailey earned All-American

Honors or his eorts last season. He was one

o three inalists or the Biletniko Award,

which goes to the top wide receiver in the

    country.

Since the Rams moved to St. Louis in 1995, theyve selected two pla

When Rams Head Coach Je Fisher was inTennessee, he thought so highly o Jared

Cook that he traded a uture second round

drat pick in order to move up and select the

South Carolina tight end in the third round.

When Fisher had a chance to reunite with

Cook this spring, he once again acted switly.

Cook, along with T Jake Long and the resign-

ing o DE William Hayes, was one o three big

moves the Rams made during ree agency,

and the speedy pass catcher is expected to

be heavily involved in the St. Louis oense

    in 2013.

At 6-5, 248 pounds, Cook gives QB Sam Bradord a big, athletic target. In

our seasons, Cook has 131 receptions or 1,717 yards and eight touch-

downs. With the Rams youth at the skill positions, Cooks numbers in

each category represent the most among current Rams.

The Rams oensive line will have a sig-

niicantly dierent look this season, but the

group hopes that theyre able to carry over

their late season success rom 2012 into the

    new year.

QB Sam Bradord was not sacked in the inal

nine quarters o the 2012 campaign. As a

team, the Rams allowed 35 sacks last season

ater giving up 55 in 2011.

C Scott Wells and RG Harvey Dahl will be the

only 2012 opening day starters that begin the

2013 season in the same spot. The Rams signed our-time Pro Bowler

Jake Long to play let tackle, meaning that Rodger Saold will move to

the right side ater spending his irst three NFL seasons on the let.

At let guard, veterans Chris Williams and Shelley Smith will compete or

The Rams didnt make a ton o moves in ree

agency this spring, but the ones they did ig-

    ure to make signiicant impacts.

Early in the ree agency period, the Rams

signed T Jake Long to anchor the let tackle

position. Long, who was the top overall

choice in the 2008 NFL Drat, went to the Pro

Bowl in each o his irst our seasons and is

regarded as one o the games top players at

    his position.

    Immediately ater the Dolphins selected

Long, the Rams took DE Chris Long (no relation) with the secondpick. The Rams are the irst team since the 1991 Colts to have the

top two players rom the same drat on their roster at the same time.

Indianapolis had the top two picks in 1991 and used them on DE Steve

    Emtman and OLB Quentin Coryatt.

The irst o Longs our Pro Bowls came as a rookie. Hes one o just ive

I you want to ind Rams MLB James Laurinaitis on the ootball ield,

can oten simply ollow the ball because the now ith-year pro seem

    always be around it.

Laurinaitis once again led the Rams in tackles last season with 174 and

reached the 100 tackle mark in each o his our NFL seasons.

Laurinaitis has proven to be a valuable deender against both the run

the pass. He recorded eight passes deensed this season and two interc

tions, giving him seven INTs or his career. He also has 8.5 sacks ocareer. Laurinaitis is the only NFC player with 8.5+ sacks and 7+ INTs s

    2009, his rookie season.

Laurinaitis, due in part to his ability to play the run and pass at a high le

rarely comes o the ield. He was on the ield or all o the Rams deen

    snaps during the 2012 season.

A day beore the 2012 opener, Laurinaitis signed a new ive-year cont

with the Rams. Ater the deal was inished, Rams COO Kevin Demo sai

Laurinaitis, I think there is no player who embodies what we want on

o the ield more than James Laurinaitis.

    MAN IN THE MIDDLE

Linebacker James Laurinaitis was the Rams leading tackler once again last season. Hes now

    recorded four consecutive 100-tackle seasons.

Leading up to the 2012 season, several o

Robert Quinns teammates said that they

expected big things o their starting right

end as he entered his second NFL season.

    Quinn delivered on those expectations.

With a sack in Week 17, the ormer irst-

round pick inished the year with 10.5

sacks, his irst season in double digits in

    the category.

In addition, Quinn ranked second among

Rams in quarterback pressures this season

    (25) and was also second in quarterback

    hits (17).

Quinn was the 14th overall player selected in the 2011 NFL Drat, and its

a class that has produced strongly when it comes to pass rushers. Fellow

2011 class members J.J. Watt and Aldon Smith inished the year rankedirst and second, respectively, in the NFL lead in sacks, and then second-

year pro Von Miller ranked third in the category.

Chris Long and Quinn became the irst pair o Rams to reach double digits

in sacks in the same season since Kevin Carter and Grant Wistrom did so in

2000. Long and Quinn made the Rams one o just ive teams this season

to have two players with at least 10 sacks. The others were Dallas (Ware

& Spencer), Denver (Miller & Dumervil), Carolina (Hardy & Johnson) and

    Cincinnati (Atkins & Johnson).

    RUSHING ROBERT

    DE Robert Quinn

Whether hes sacking the quarterback orchasing him down, Rams DE Chris Longcontinues to make an impact in St. Louispass defense.

Long finished the 2012 campaign with 11.5sacks, his second straight year in doubledigits in the category. Long tied for ninth inthe NFL in sacks last season.

He finished the season with a bang as hedropped Seattle QB Russell Wilson threetimes in Week 17.

Even when Long isnt recording sacks, hispass-rushing presence was certainly felt

throughout the year. He led the Rams with 50 QB pressures and 24 QBhits on the season.

Late in the second quarter of the teams Week 2 win, Long hurriedRedskins QB Robert Griffin III and forced an errant pass that was inter-cepted by Cortland Finnegan. The Rams turned the takeaway into threepoints. For Long, the play represents one example of his ability to change

    games without recording sacks.

The former second-overall pick had a breakout season in 2011. Long fin-ished the year with 13.0 sacks, which ranked seventh in the NFL.

Last July, the Rams rewarded Long with a new four-year contract thatwill keep him in place as a centerpiece for the defense for years to come.

    LONG ON TALENT II

    DE Chris Long

LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar was one o six

new starters on the Rams deense in

2012, and his play-making ability was

a welcomed addition to the unit.

    Dunbar recorded a career-high 157

tackles to rank second among Rams in

    2012, trailing only James Laurinaitis.

He was a orce against the run as

evidenced by his team-best 23 tackles

or loss on the year and in the pass,

as his two interceptions, 4.5 sacks,

ive passes deensed and 16 QB hitswould attest.

Dunbar reached double digits in tack-

les in seven dierent games during

his irst year with the Rams. He returns

or a second year in St. Louis, and

When ree agency began early lastMarch, the Rams quickly moved toland their top target. That man was CBCortland Finnegan, and youd be hardpressed to ind an oseason acquisitionacross the NFL had as big an impact in2012 as Finnegan.

Finnegan recorded an interception ineach o his irst three games with St.

Finnegan played or Rams Head CoachJe Fisher or ive seasons in Tennessee, where the Samord product developed a reputation as a eisty, aggressiveplaymaker.

In addition to providing a boost with his play, Finnegans leadership waskey in the Rams locker room. He willingly accepted a mentor role in asecondary that included rookies Janoris Jenkins, Trumaine Johnson andRodney McLeod.

Finnegan has been a model o consistency throughout his career. InWeeks 16 &17 last season, he played in nickel situations despite a naggingthigh injury that kept him out o practice all week. When he came o thebench in Week 16, it broke a streak o 56 consecutive starts, which was thesecond-longest active streak among NFL cornerbacks.
