The Long RangerFolly delights a man who lacks judgment,

but a man of understanding keeps a straight course.Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

A man finds joy in giving an apt reply—and how good isa timely word!

- Proverbs 15:21-23

Dear friends: “Hi-oh Silver! Away!” I heard they were comingout with a new Lone Rangermovie. And while that is goingon in Hollywood, here in Renoyour Elders are bandingtogether to be your Long-Rangers. We’re accepting theresponsibility of being ourLong-Range Planning Team.We’re spending considerabletime considering where we areand where our Lord is leadingus. We’re learning togetherabout the challenges we face inour rapidly changing culture,and reminding our selves of thehope we have in our always-the-same Lord and Savior. Weare reaffirming our essentialvalues and beliefs and askinghow we will better realize ourmission in the days ahead. Weare going to be makingdecisions about our prioritiesfor ministry with limitedresources as we count on ourGod’s limitless abilities. How canyou help?

Keep your Elders in yourprayers. Martha Aiyuk. JerryAudet. Will Davidson. JoanneDickson. Samuel Duenas.Gerry Dunlap. Jim Hemsley. T.J. Hill. Chris Rhodes. Ask forGod’s protection and guidance,for oneness of mind and mutualencouragement in our passionfor God and His purposes. In the past we’ve had fancynames for these long-rangeplanning groups here at CPC –the “Dream Team,” the “PeachTree Committee”… We don’thave a name yet for the 2013group. Maybe we could callthem “The Long-Rangers”… Ormaybe we could just call themour Elders… Yeah, that has anice ring to it.A word aptly spoken is likeapples of gold in settings ofsilver. – Proverbs 25:11 “Hi-oh Silver! Away!”

Yours in Christ, Pastor Jay

Almighty and ever-living God,we humbly praise you for the

nation in which you haveallowed us to live. We cherishits wonder and its beauty. Weare thankful for its fruitful lands,

its bountiful waters, its greatresources and its unlimited

opportunities.

We thank you for our foundingfathers and mothers, and for

their foresight, special wisdom,and steadfast courage in

establishing freedom and alasting document of fairness.

Stir up within each of us the willto be good stewards of all theblessings of the land we love.

Amen.

New Biographies Now on Shelves in the CPC LibraryBy Patti Hemsley

There are as many reasonsto read biographies asthere are people whose

lives merit examination,contemplation or simply a goodre-telling of a true andcompelling story.

Good biographies take usbehind the legend of oftenfascinating people and,especially with Christiansubjects, leave us with heroes toadmire and even emulate. Alongthe way, we also absorb history,join in spectacular or menacing

adventures (from a safedistance), and come awayutterly satisfied from a darngood read!

Several new biographicalbooks were recently added toour library:

50 People EveryChristian Should Knowby Warren W. Wiersbe

These brief biographieswere originally magazinesubmissions. Wiersbe writes,

“One of my goals has been toencourage Christians to “digagain the old wells” (see Gen26:18) and get acquainted withthe godly leaders of the pastwho kept the light shiningbefore we were ever on thescene…the past is not ananchor to drag us back but arudder to help guide us into thefuture.” Check this book outand get to know the womanLuther called “Kitty, my rib”,along with A.W. Tozer, OswaldChambers, Fanny Crosby,Jonathan Edwards and aneclectic and inspiring 45 more.

Bonhoeffer: Pastor,Martyr, Prophet, Spyby Eric Metaxas (author ofAmazing Grace)

The cover asks, “Who betterto face the greatest evil of the20th Century than a humbleman of faith? As Adolph Hitlerand the Nazis bullied acontinent and attempted toexterminate the Jews of Europe,a small number of dissidentsand saboteurs worked todismantle the Third Reich fromwithin.” What does it mean tosubmit to God and His word asthe world around succumbs toevil? How do you move fromsmuggling Jews to safety tobecoming part of the Valkyrie

Plot to kill Hitler? “His was aradical obedience to God, aframe of mind widely viewedtoday with fear and loathing…InBonhoeffer, Metaxes remindsus there are forms of religion –respectable, domesticated,timid – that may end up doingthe devil’s work for him.’ – WallStreet Journal

Chasing Francisby Ian Morgan Cron

When a broken pastorseeks refuge with his uncle, aFranciscan priest in Italy, he isintroduced to the revolutionaryteachings of St. Francis ofAssisi. He finds “an old but newway” of following Jesus thatheals and inspires. “Caution!Reading this book may causespontaneous kindness, charitytoward others, and a totaloverhaul of the way you thinkabout what it means to be afollower of Christ” saysreviewer Mark Batterson While not bona fidebiography, Cron’s book wedshistorical fact to a fictional storyto give us a fresh appreciationfor a humble and admirableman of God.

Doctors Who FollowedChrist and Scientists ofFaithby Dan Graves

Are science and faithcompatible? Graves tells usmany of the world’s greatestscientific discoveries weremade by persons of great faithwho sought to honor God andHis creation. “Christians andthe Christian world view werecrucial to the formation of theearly sciences…[These menand women] began their searchfor truth with the assumptionthat God exists, that His word istrue, and that He has createdan orderly universe that revealshimself.” Graves’ book on medicalpioneers likewise details howJesus influenced medicine,inspiring heroism and ministry.Meet Joseph Lister and EdwardJenner, Clara Swain and C.Everett Koop as you get toknow some of history’shealthcare heroes.

Yet thatsentence masks theexcruciating personal sacrifices,persecutions and hardshipsthat marked his life of service. Other new books in thisseries now on our shelvesinclude Amy Carmichael:Rescuer of Precious Gemsand Corrie Ten Boom: Keeperof the Angel’s Den.

During the summer months,Christians from around theglobe meet in Spain todistribute New Testaments, theJesus Film, evangelistic DVDs,and apologetic books for adultsand children to the multitudesof Muslims traveling by ferrybetween Africa and Europe.

Please pray for our missionteam: for health, harmonyamong coworkers, faith in theircalling and sustainedmissionary zeal.

Operation Transitcoordinators also ask us topray:

● For fruit from thedistribution.  Many havecome to Christ through thematerials alone.  Manymore have had their heartsreadied by the Holy Spiritusing the materials;

● For fruit from theevangelism, that 'he whosows and he who reapsmay rejoice together';

● For fruit from the follow-up;that all interested contactswould have someone nearwhere they live to meet withthem and help them alongin coming to know Christ,and, when they havereceived Christ, to get toknow Him more;

● That every North African willpersonally know someonewho knows Jesus.

Mark your calendars andplan to come for a specialMission Night at CPC at 6:30PM on Sunday, July 21!

“We draw people to Christ not byloudly discrediting what theybelieve, by telling them how

wrong they are and how right weare, but by showing them a lightthat is so lovely that they wantwith all their hearts to know the

source of it.”

-Madeleine L’Engle (Walking on Water:Reflections on Faith and Art)

A speaker began hisseminar by holding up a$20 bill. He asked the

group of 200, "Who would likethis $20 bill?"

Most hands went up. Hesaid, "I'll give this $20 to one ofyou, but first let me do this." Hecrumpled up the $20 bill thenasked, "Who still wants it?"Most hands were raised again.

"Well," he continued, "what ifI do this?" He dropped it andground it into the floor with hisshoe. He picked up thecrumpled and dirty bill. "Now

who still wants it?" Again thehands went into the air.

"My friends, you have alllearned a very valuable lesson.No matter what I did to themoney, you still wanted itbecause it didn't decrease invalue. It was still worth $20.

"Many times in our lives, weare dropped, crumpled andground into the dirt by thedecisions we make and thecircumstances that come ourway. We feel as though we'reworthless.

"But no matter what hashappened or what will happen,you will never lose your valuein God's eyes. To Him, dirty orclean, crumpled or finelycreased, you are still

priceless to Him. Psalm17:8 states that God willkeep us 'as the apple of[His] eye.'" U
