Section 1Introduction to the programme

About the Work Experience Programme

This programme is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in a career in business and/or accountancy. Applicants should be open to new experiences and willing to make the most of their time with KPMG. Applicants must be on track to meet the minimum requirements for our Audit School/College Leaver Programme (ABB at A level or equivalent with grade B in GCSE English Language and Maths).

Our aim is to provide an insight into life at KPMG through a range of planned activities, which will simulate many of the tasks our staff carry out on a daily / weekly basis and will require application of the kinds of skills and behaviours that we look for in our people.

The week will also give students the chance to experience and observe a real life working environment in a vibrant professional services setting through work shadowing and day to day contact with our people. Students will be given the opportunity to discuss careers and question our staff about their career choices. Students will be working in small groups and advice / support will be on hand at all times from a member of KPMG staff.

At KPMG we are committed to the aim that young people from all backgrounds, understand business and their future role in it, and are better able to make informed choices about their future. We understand the role that we can play in achieving this aim and our work experience programme is just one of a number of activities being undertaken by KPMG to help support young people within our communities.

Through our work experience programme we aim to support students in achieving the following objectives:

1. Recognise, develop and apply their skills for enterprise and employability.

2. Use their experience of work, including work experience and part-time jobs, to extend their understanding of work.

3. Learn about the way business enterprises operate, working roles and conditions, and rights and responsibilities in the work place.

4. Develop awareness of the extent and diversity of local and national employment opportunities.

5. Relate their own abilities, attributes and achievements to career intentions and make informed choices based on an understanding of the alternatives.

6. Undertake tasks and activities set in work contexts.

7. Learn from contact with personnel from different employment sectors.

8. Have experience (direct or indirect) of working practices and environments.

9. Engage with ideas, challenges and applications from the business world.

Further details of the week can be found in section 2 of this document. To apply for a place on this programme please complete all parts of the application form in section 3, including obtaining consent from both a parent / guardian and your teacher and return to:
