Transcript of 2013 Tiffin University Men's Basketball Media Guide

Welcome...

At Tiffi n University, our students endeavour to excel in both the classroom and the athletic arena. Our athletic programs have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years with conference championships, teams being nationally ranked and challenging at national tournaments. There have been numerous individual accolades including All-Americans, and it is no small accomplishment that in the past few years we have set new standards of excellence with our individual and team academic achievements. We expect our student-athletes to be just as successful in the classroom. A recent self study conducted by the university indicated that, of all the athletes who completed their eligibility at Tiffin University in the last five years, 95% of those athletes graduated. While many colleges would be ecstatic with these results, we will never be content until it is 100%.

We are proud of our rich history and look forward to setting new milestones as we enter the NCAA Division II playing fi eld and the highly competitive Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. We are proud of our athletes and what they have accomplished. They have been the force behind the winning tradition that has been established, and I am confi dent the future will also be highly successful for Tiffi n University athletics.

Welcome to th i s a th l e t i c season a t Ti ff in Un ive r s i ty. I invite you to watch and cheer for all of our women’s and men’s teams. Intercollegiate athletics play an important role at Tiffi n University. The students who participate develop life-long friendships and learn leadership and teamwork skills, how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals, how to deal with adversity, the importance of persistence, sportsmanship, and physical fi tness, and other skills and abilities that contribute to satisfying and productive lives and careers. Our athletic program also provides visibility and name recognition for TU, helps develop a sense of excitement, morale and school spirit on campus, and provides opportunities for students, employees, alumni, and supporters to unite behind a common goal. We are especially proud of the high standards of conduct displayed by our coaches and players on and off the fi eld.

Experienced Dragons Look to Move Up

The Tiffi n University men’s basketball team started and closed the 2011-12 season with a bang. The Dragons won four of their fi rst fi ve games, hit a rough spot and closed with fi ve wins in the fi nal six contests. Included in that stretch run were wins over Findlay and #24 Hillsdale, the fi rst victories over those schools in over 20 years. Tiffi n won the GCI Alaska Invitational en route to fi nishing 15-14, its fi rst winning season in six years.

The Dragons will have a different look for 2012-13. They lose only fi ve players. However, those fi ve were among the top six on the team in minutes played and included four starters. Among the losses for TU was Karl Finley, an All-GLIAC First Team selection and the

GLIAC Freshman of the Year, Iman Johnson.

Graessle is the lone starter back. Graessle averaged 17.9 points, 3.5 assists and 1.3 steals a game while hitting 3.1 triples a game. Graessle set the school record with 91 3-pointers made and 252 treys attempted and fi nished 12th in the country in three’s made per game. He was an All-GLIAC second team selection last season.

Sophomores Michael Bouley and Sarwan Khan, both returning letterwinners, have good size at 6’7” and 6’9”, respectively. Another pair of sophomores, Mike Brown and Andrew Bendolph, bring experience to the backcourt.

Among the 10 newcomers, Mike Boan, a transfer from NCAA Division I Wright State, is expected to make an immediate impact. The Dragons also look for contributions from freshmen Mohamed Rage, Khaleal McCormick, Eric Roby and Jonathan Sutherlin.

Tiffi n will continue to provide ac-cess and opportunity for individuals and facilitate their preparation for successful careers and for productive and satisfying lives. Tiffi n University continues to represent a new kind of institution in America, the professional univer-sity, where the career objectives of traditional college-age students and adult students are optimized through professionally-focused undergraduate and graduate programs that have a broad general education foun-dation. This fundamental institutional strategy is the vision for Tiffi n University’s future. Visit our website www.tiffi n.edu for infor-mation on our majors, faculty, athletics, student life programs and much more.

As Athletic Director at Tiffi n University and Head Baseball Coach since 1992, I can personally attest to the fact that this is an exciting time at Tiffi n University and particularly its athletic department. As a full member of the Great Lakes Intercolle-giate Athletic Conference, arguably the nation’s fi nest conference, it is time to make a strong commitment to excellence. I am committed to increasing the visibility and our outreach efforts of TU’s athletic department while remaining conscious of your needs and concerns.

Because of this the Tiffi n University Athletic Department annually holds the Tiffi n University Athletic Department Golf Outing. By supporting Tiffi n University Athlet-ics through participation in the golf outing, the community assists us with this com-mitment and ensures our student athletes compete at the highest level.

Thanks for your continued support,
