has fully funded scholarships for more than 75 children to attend art classes since the fall of 2010. Through these scholarships, students without financial means to pay have explored drawing, ceramics, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and welding. In addition to these funded classes, Water Street also offers Art Flow, our community outreach arts education program that brings high quality art classes taught by professional artists to students and women at local shelters, low-income housing, and community organizations. These programs exemplify our mission to bring art education and appreciation to all residents of the Fox Valley area. ■ Collagraph (12+)Collagraph is a type of printing matrix that results in an impression that is texturally and tonally rich. The word collagraph derives from the Greek kolla, meaning “glue,” and graphos, “to write”. Creating a collagraph is a constructive process: pieces of cardboard, tin foil, feathers, tape, fibers, fabrics, string and so on are glued to a base plate so that objects are in low relief on the surface. Ink is wiped into the collaged features of the plate. When printing, the paper is forced to stretch into the nooks and crannies to grab the ink. Students will create a variety of collagraph plates and learn to print them with intaglio and relief printing processes. Required materials: small bottle acrylic gloss medium, Krylon crystal clear acrylic coating #1303. Recommended materials: sketch-book, xacto knife or box cutter, flat or bastard file, 5 piece woodcarving tool set, Elmer’s glue, spackling paste, fabrics, ribbons, leaves, tin foil, feathers, sand paper, various textured tapes, or any other interesting textured items no thicker than a penny. □ Instructor Kimberly Fredricks□ M $145/NonMembers $165□ T, Th May 2, 7, 9, 16, 21, 23 (No class May 14) ► 7-8:30p PRT3203-A

■ Drypoint Engraving (13+)Drypoint is an intaglio (in-TAL-ee-oh) printmaking technique in which a sharp point is used to scratch into a metal or plexiglass plate. Drypoint is the simplest type of engraving. It is identified by its soft, furry quality of line. Ragged burrs of metal pushed up at the edge of the incised line give the softness that is the main beauty of drypoint. The technique of using a drypoint scribe is similar to drawing with a pencil. Ink is wiped into the burrs of the plate. When printing, the paper is forced to stretch into the nooks and crannies to grab the ink. Students will create a variety of drypoint plates and learn to print them with the intaglio printing process. Students will be exposed to other engraving techniques such as mezzotint and line engraving. Required materials: double pointed steel drypoint scribe with cork handle. Recommended materials: E.C. Lyons square burin #8 engraving tool, sketchbook, tracing paper, masking tape.□ Instructor: Kimberly Fredricks□ M $175/NonMembers $195□ Su, M May 5, 6, 12, 13, 20, Jun 3 (No class May 19, 26, 27) ► 7-8:30p PRT3205-A

■ Monoprint Madness! (12+)Explore the fun, experimental printmaking process of monoprints! Painterly, graphic, ab-stract or representational, monoprints are a fun and direct way of making one-of-a-kind prints and images. Students will explore new ways of image-making using ink rollers, stencils, found objects and even their hands. Some materials provided. □ Instructor Tessa Shackelford□ M $40/NonMembers $55□ Su May 12, 19, 26, June 2 ► 3-6p PRT3207-A□ Su July 14, 21, 28, Aug 4 ► 3-6p PRT3207-B

■ Relief PrintmakingRelief printing is a form of expression in which the surface of a block yields the image and the areas that do not print are cut away. It is the oldest form of printmaking and is used to communicate ideas through symbols, imagery and printed words. Ink is rolled onto the block, paper is placed upon it and pressure is applied to transfer ink from block to paper. The class will focus on woodcut relief print techniques to create engaging imagery. Required materials: 5 piece Miki-syo Power Grip woodcarving tool set. Recommended materials: sketchbook, pencil, fi ne and extra fi ne point Sharpie marker, and soft rubber brayer. □ Instructor Kimberly Fredricks □ M $145/NonMembers $165□ M, W Jun 10, 12, 17, 19, 24, 26, July 1, 3 ► 7-8:30p VRY3201-A

■ Color Relief Printmaking (16+) This class will take relief printmaking to the next level with the introduction and exploration of color relief printmaking. Students will learn the reductive woodcut process and multiple block printing process to achieve a multicolored image. The reduction woodcut process al-lows the printmaker to print as many colors as s/he wishes, yet only uses one block to print all the colors from. The multiple block process uses a separate block for each color with a final key block to bring the image together. Students will also learn registration techniques to keep imagery tight throughout each stage of printing. Required materials: 5 piece Miki-syo power grip set. Recommended materials: sketchbook, pencils, fine and extra fine point Sharpie marker, and soft rubber brayer. □ Instructor Kimberly Fredricks □ M $220/NonMembers $250□ M, W July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31 ► 7-8:30p PRT3202-A

■ Linocut Collage Lab (12+)Linocut is a variant of woodcut in which the relief printing matrix is made of softer linoleum. A design is drawn onto the surface which is then cut with gouges, v-tools and chisels. The uncarved areas yield a mirrored image when printed. Students will learn to create imagery on linoleum, pink erasers, and flat rubber discs which will be used to experiment in print collage. Required materials: Speedball lino cutter set. Recommended materials: sketch-book, pencil, extra fine sharpie markers. □ Instructor Kimberly Fredricks□ M $125/NonMembers $145 (includes mounted linoleum block(s), paper, pink erasers, lino discs)□ T, Th July 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 ► 1-2:30p PRT3204-A

■ Private Photography StudyDo you have a digital camera, but are struggling to understand the instructions? Or have you had one for a while and are not really sure what all of those buttons and knobs do. If you do not know the difference between “aperture priority” and “shutter priority” or why white balance is important (but you want to), this is a great class for you. The instructorwill take you through the basics of the world of digital photography to help you make the most of your camera. These private lessons will help. Students are asked to bring in ex-amples of pictures they have taken in the past and what they like about them. This will lead into discussion on the importance of different camera controls like aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance. Class exercises will be planned to exploit all of these different ele-ments. □ Instructor Jim Kirkhoff□ $80/2 hour package or $150/4 hour package PVT3206-A
