They provide reliable weather protection and maximized comfort in all weather conditions. Excellent management of perspiration leads to optimized body-heat regulation. No post-activity chill. No cooling off due to wind chill. Each square inch of a GORE-TEX membrane contains 9 billion pores. Each microscopic hole is 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, making it impossible for rain, snow and sleet to pass through. While each pore of a GORE-TEX membrane is smaller than a water droplet, each is 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This is what enables GORE-TEX fabric to breathe so that sweat vapor can escape, keeping you dry from the insidethe ideal solution for hunters looking for broad weather protection and style.

Sitka product designers are constantly testing and sourcing the latest textile technologies in real-world situations for waterproofness, wind resis-tance, durability, breathability and articulation. GORE OPTIFADE Concealment is the first and only concealment system ever scientifically designed around the way a hunters prey views the world. Traditional camouflage relies upon mimicking hunters surroundings. GORE OPTIFADE Concealment breaks the mold by tricking the animals eyes into not recognizing the hunter as a predator by using their eyes against them.

ELEVATED FOREST Tree stand hunting presents a unique combination of concealment challenges. Kiviok Hight is the archetype of the mountain athlete: adventure racer, competitive triathlete, mountain biker and passionate hunter. People go on vacation to relax and de-stress, but then have to come back and deal with regular life. I do the opposite. I go and try to physically exhaust myself so that real life seems like a vacation, he says.

Hes always on the movetraining, competing, building strength, agility and endurance all for his first love: hunts involving steep, rugged high country, archery equipment, and majestic mountain sheep. I love the mountaineering side of it. I just really love the challenge; to know that youve truly tested yourself while youre out there. He is no stranger to hunts requiring 12-hour pack-outs. I love the exhaustion.

Kiviok suffers for what he loves, but hes not a masochist, and refuses to suffer without purpose. He seeks out the lightest, most comfortable, most reliable gear available, and for years, that meant using gear designed for alpine-style backpacking on his hunts.

No one had brought backpacking gear into hunting before Sitka, he says. Now that they have, I use my Sitka Gear for absolutely everything mountain biking, hiking, and in my triathlons and adventure racing. After two days of hellish snow and wind, the storm broke exposing a vast basin full of rutting bulls. Athlete, Kiviok Hight admires his first Alaska Yukon Moose.


Kiviok lives to hunt the hardest country in the world. He thrives on it. Whether it be hunting wiley public land bulls in Colorado, chasing Dall sheep through scree fields in Alaska, or Moose in the NWT, a reliable system is a requirement for success. AXIS DEER INSTITUTE Hawaii

The Hawaiian Islands are one of the most isolated island chains in the world, imposing a natural quarantine of more than 2,000 miles of open ocean. Any plants or animals that arrived on their own, evolved in spectacular fashion into incredibly unique species found nowhere else on Earth. With no large plant-eating mammals, many plant species let their guards down. Nettles became nettle-less, mints, mint-less. Entire ecosystems evolved without a single defense mechanism, making Hawaiis plants and animals extremely vulnerable to the aggressive ways of man and the thousands of alien species that came with him. Noxious weeds and hungry ungulates wreaked havoc on native ecosystems, and in an evolutionary blink of an eye, Hawaii's became the endangered species capital of the world, with more endangered species per square mile than anywhere else on the planet.

Of the numerous introduced species on the islands of Hawaii, Axis Deer have had perhaps the greatest impact. Native to India, three Axis Deer bucks and four does were gifted to King Kamehameha V in 1867, which he released on his grounds on Molokai, a tiny island only 27 miles long and 11 miles wide. Fast-forward to present day Molokai, and unmanaged, predator free growth has left 65,000 deer, a staggering number when you consider that the island is home to only 7,300 people. Axis deer now exist on the islands of Maui, Lanai and were recently illegally introduced to the island of Hawaii.

The Axis Deer Institute (ADI) is a privately funded non-profit created to help address this issue throughout the State of Hawaii. The institute conduct population assessments, creates habitat models, does extensive behavioral research and pioneers new control techniques. ADI has become both the apex predator and the wildlife biologist in this unprecedented endeavor, working to ensure that axis deer are the gift they were intended to be, rather than a burden to the people and the land.

ADI is in the continual pursuit of technologies, tools and strategies that make our work more efficient and successful. They utilize satellite telemetry video collars to literally see what the deer see, they work with military grade Forward Looking Infrared for un-equaled accuracy in population assessments, theyre pioneering ground-breaking use of helicopters, testing the use of long range acoustic devices and every day they use our Sitka Gear.

WHITETAIL

Hunting a 6.5 year old Kansas brute is not an easy task, but thats exactly what Sitka Athlete Jeff Simpson took on yet again this past fall. He patterned and hunted the buck he refers to simply as 'The Big Typical' all year, capturing trail camera images and live photos/video of him on a daily basis through the entire year. The hunt was well calculated and the buck was well educated. The Kansas hills were home to a great battle of experience and persistence

Like a lot of whitetail hunters, Bobby Warners next hunt begins as soon as the current one ends. He moves tree stands in the winter, plants food plots and picks sheds in the spring, dials in his 97 trail cameras on a couple thousand acres throughout the summer, and come fall, he sits in his stands as long as it takes to arrow a mature buck.

But what makes him remarkable is his work with Beyond the Backyard, an organization he founded in West Virginia to help get kids involved in hunting. Bobby was about to take his oldest son on his first hunt, when the boy asked why none of his friends were hunting that year. It was the first year in West Virginia's history that hunting license purchases had gone down from the year before.

Bobby found that a lot of parents didn't hunt and didn't know what to do with their kids in the outdoors. Among the parents that did hunt, he found that they didn't make it a year-round pursuit, so, when out of the blue, they said to their kids, "Hey, let's go hunting this weekend," there was no preparation or anticipation, and "No wonder the kid's are freezing and bored."

So he decided to do something about it. He didn't really think he'd be able to make an impact, but he made a hunting club just for kids, where only kids could be members, and if nothing else, his kids and their friends would have something to connect over.

"I thought if we were really lucky, we'd have maybe a couple hundred kids in West Virginia," he says. But the club grew legs, and there are now 15,000 members in 21 states.

Membership is free, and each week, Bobby and his single employee send the kids emails and Facebook updates with cool ideas of what they can do with their parents in the outdoors year round. They also get entered to win hunting trips and invitations to fish at club fishing derbies.

"The pipe dream is to one day pull away from my law firm and work full-time on this and give the kids more opportunities," he says.

"No wonder the kid's are freezing and bored."Hundreds of hours spent drenched in sweat, planting food plots, cutting shooting lanes, picking sheds, setting stands, and moving trail cameras all culminate in Bobby's time in the stand waiting for "the one."
