THE FIRESIDE CENTRE is a new community hub in Merritt. It acts as a central location for a number of United Way’s community partners to offer youth programming under one roof. For many of these organizations the right place to deliver services to youth has been difficult to find, which sometimes meant discussing confidential and personal issues in vehicles and public areas. United Way’s investment provided essential dollars to complete renovations and pay rental and utility costs of the new Centre.

THE HOUSING TASK FORCE has commissioned a housing study and is working collaboratively to develop supportive housing in Merritt. THE FOOD SECURITY COUNCIL opened its first community garden in the spring of 2013. United Way funding will allow the Social Planning Council to foster the garden’s development and increase its profile in the community through involving seniors in the maintenance of the garden and donating surplus produce to the Food Bank.
