CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

** Please ensure that you read these rules prior to entering the Show **

Eligibility Requirements: The onus is on the competitor/owner/exhibitor to ensure that they meet the eligibility to compete in this event as well as the horse/pony entered: 1. All horses must be registered with the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc. National Saddle Horse Register to compete in Grand National Qualifying classes (e.g. Open Show Hack, Open Show Hunter, Rider & Lead Rein classes). 2. The rider/handler and owner/lessee must be a financial member of Show Horse Council SA Inc. (or other SHC Affiliate e.g. HIA Competitors Association) at the close of entries and on the day of competition. 3. Leading Rein – Rider 3 years and under 8 years. Handler (to be 18 years or over) and rider must be a financial member of Show Horse Council SA Inc. (or other SHC Affiliate e.g. HIA Competitors Association) prior to close of entries and on the day of competition. Rules of Competition: In addition to the rules outlined below all competitors should take note of the SHC Australasia Inc. General Competition Rules, which will apply, unless precluded by rules or conditions of entry specific to this show, the 2013 “Hygain Feeds” SA Hack of the Year – 2014 Grand National Qualifier. Entry to this competition is voluntary and in entering you agree to accept the rules and conditions of the SHC of Australasia. The SHC SA Inc. reserves the right to interpret all rules where any dispute arises. Its decision is final. Entries will only be accepted from bonafide residents of SA or those who reside within a 100km radius of the SA State Borders, unless the SHC-SA Committee has accepted special circumstances. Conditions of Entry:

All horses shall be currently registered with the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc, National Saddle Horse Register or with a Breed Register as recognized by the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc. (e.g. ASH, ASPA, RPSPS, APSB, etc). Registration with a breed society is NOT sufficient for horses entering Grand National Qualifying Classes. All horses shall be resident in SA and be owned by a resident of SA for a period of not less than 3 months prior to the closing date of entries.

Show Horse Council of SA Inc. membership number (or SHC Affiliate (e.g. HIA Competitors Association) Membership Number) for owner /exhibitor/ rider must be included on entry form (plus a copy of membership card attached to entry) – entry is for SHC Affiliate members only.

Horses / Galloways / Ponies can only compete as either a Show Hunter or Show Hack. SHC Federal Ruling is that horses must compete in the section that they start in with SHC for the full calendar year (1

st Jan-31

st Dec) only then can horses switch sections.

Proof of age is required for rider classes *(Birth Certificate to be supplied as proof of age) – riders age is on the day

COMPETITORS PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD RINGS

If a horse has competed in another state's SHC Horse of the Year show held in the 2013 calendar year, it is ineligible to compete in the OPEN HACK section or SHOW HUNTER section of the 2013 Show Horse Council of SA “Hygain” Hack of the Year show.

If a rider has competed in another state's SHC Horse of the Year show held in the 2013 calendar year, he/she is ineligible to compete in the RIDER section of the 2013 Show Horse Council of SA “Hygain” Hack of the Year show.

INCOMPLETE ENTRY - Should any information, registration papers, height certificates, birth certificates and/ or fees be omitted from the entry, the entry will be deemed incomplete and as such will not be accepted. A handling fee of $20 will apply to any entry that is incorrect – PAYMENT OF THIS FEE WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE NUMBERS WILL BE ISSUED.

NUMBERS - Numbers corresponding to the catalogue shall be worn in competition. Breastplate numbers on horses in ALL classes, rider numbers are issued for riders entered in RIDER classes (to be placed in number holder). ALL exhibitors (including riders) will be required to pay a NON REFUNDABLE $2 fee for each breastplate number. Horse entries shall be catalogued as per exhibitor details on the entry form.

LIABILITY - The Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc, Show Horse Council SA and Talunga Park, Mt Pleasant shall not be responsible for the loss of, or for any damage or injury occasioned to any exhibit or the property of any exhibitors from any cause what so ever. The exhibitors/competitors enter and compete entirely at their own risk.

Except where any ineligibility is officially proved, the judge’s decision is final. A judge’s decision representing his / her individual preference can NOT be protested against.

PROTESTS - All protests shall be in writing to the ground jury accompanied by a fee of $50 and are to be received no later than one hour after the event, after which time no protest shall be entered in to. A refund of $50 only applies if the protest is upheld – otherwise the fee is forfeited. No discussion will be entered into and the committee’s decision will be FINAL.

No outside assistance is to be displayed during competition. Penalty of disqualification may apply to breach of this regulation.

RANDOM SWABBING - Drug testing will be carried out on both days of the show in accordance with the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc requirements and Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc competition rules on DRUGS and DRUG TESTING (rules 7.1-7.12) together with the department of sport and recreation doping policy, or in accordance with the relevant laboratory sample collection protocol. Compliance with this rule is mandatory for all exhibits and persons responsible. Drug penalties as adopted in the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc competition rules (7.8a-7.8b) will be apply. Registration papers must be produced if a horse is called up for drug testing. IF A HORSE RETURNS A POSITIVE SWAB ALL TESTING COSTS INCURRED BECOME THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE COMPETITOR/EXHIBITOR.

DRUGS - It is the intention of these regulations that a horse shall perform at the time of competition on their merits, without the aid of drug (s) or prohibited substance (s) which will affect the conduct, performance or appearance of the horse.

It is the absolute liability of the owner (s) / exhibitor (s) / responsible officer to ensure that any horse exhibited by them in this competition is free from any prohibited / banned drug or substance at the time of competition. Failure to adhere to this rule may render the exhibit / owner (s) / exhibitor (s) / responsible officer liable to disqualification and / or disciplinary action as determined by the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc. Results of drug testing may be published.

The decision as to whether the horse will be permitted to start shall be made by the ground jury. Veterinary advice may be sought if considered necessary. The exhibitor / competitor shall be advised of the decision prior to the commencement time. No (a) claim shall be made against or (b) appeal made to the ground jury or council if, by such decision of the ground jury, the entry is not permitted to start.

The committee reserves the right to refuse or withdraw any entry / entries without having to assign a reason.

All information supplied by the exhibitor (s) and / or owner (s) and / or responsible officer (i.e. the person in charge of the horse) shall be true and correct and represent that the horse / rider is eligible to compete. If this information is found to be false, the exhibit shall be ineligible to compete. The Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc may discipline the exhibitors and / or owners and / or responsible officer of the entry.

Horse entries shall only be accepted where the names and signatures of the current registered owner (s) and / or lessee (s), and exhibitors / competitors appear on the entry form.

Where an owner of the horse shall be in charge of the horse during the competition, then THAT owner is required to sign the entry form as the responsible officer.

If a person other than an owner shall be in charge of the horse during the competition, then THAT person is requires to sign the entry form as the responsible officer.

Where a horse is registered and / or entered in the name of a minor (under 18 years), the entry form shall be signed by the parent / legal guardian. The responsible officer at events is required as a minimum to be a social member for insurance purposes.

In the event of disciplinary action, the person(s) considered responsible shall be the Owner(s) and / or responsible officer and / or the person in charge of the horse at the time of the offence.

The organizing committee and / or the Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc. and / or the ground jury, reserve the right to alter the numbers of Finalists, Program, Judges, Schedule or Timetable.

HEIGHT CERTIFICATE / MEASURING - All horses need to hold a current Official SHC height certificate to compete – we recognize Show Horse Council of Australasia Inc. (Annual and / or life certificates). It is your responsibility to ensure that your horse has been measured prior to the show. No measuring is available on the day. A Measuring day will be held at Mt Pleasant Show grounds on Friday 18

th October between 2-5pm for last minute measurements. NO HEIGHT CERTIFICATE – NO RIDE!

A rider shall ride only one horse in each class. This rule will be strictly adhered to.

In rider classes, two riders in the same section cannot ride the same horse.

Riders in rider class under 17yrs are required to wear Jodhpur boots. (No Gaiters/top boots)

ATTIRE - All riders are required to wear a suitable safety helmet (Australian Standards AS/NZ 3838 or EN1384) and approved riding boots at all times. Any breach of this rule, may incur disqualification from the competition. RIDERS OVER 18YRS MAY COMPETE IN TOP HATS IN ACCORDANCE WITH SHC INSURANCE.

EXERCISING HORSES - Lunging on the main oval is NOT permitted at any time. Riders must lunge horses outside this area. Horses may be ridden on the oval prior to competition. Competitors can work in the arenas prior to competition commencing but not during lunch breaks.

STABLING – Bookings and payments for stabling needs to be received as soon as possible. LIMITED STABLING IS AVAILABLE ON THE GROUNDS – FIRST IN FIRST SERVED FOR LONG DISTANCE COMPETITORS. Stables will be inspected on departure and if not cleaned satisfactorily will incur a cleaning fee.

DOGS - Dogs MUST be kept on a leash AT ALL TIMES and under suitable control around horses.

WITHDRAWAL OF ENTRY AFTER THE CLOSING DATE: NO REFUNDS WILL BE PROVIDED AFTER THE CLOSING DATE OF ENTRIES.

CLASS DEFINITIONS

LED CLASSES Open to horses of any age. Horses are to be led in either a snaffle or double bridle. No show halters – must be shown in a bridle with a bit in their mouths. Horses may only be shown as either a Show Hunter or Show Hack – NOT BOTH. Horses entered in led classes need not be NSH registered, but must hold a form of Registration to compete and must have a current official SHC height certificate. NEWCOMER CLASSES Horses are to be aged 3yrs and over. For horses that have NOT been shown under saddle in any discipline (i.e. dressage, jumping, eventing, novelties, pony club, breeds, etc), except racing, prior to 24th October 2012. HORSES ARE TO BE RIDDEN IN A SNAFFLE BRIDLE ONLY WITH A SNAFFLE BIT. Horses entered in Newcomer classes need not be NSH registered, but must hold a form of registration to compete and must also have a current official SHC height certificate. NOVICE CLASSES Horses are to be aged 3yrs and over. A Novice show horse is a horse that has not placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an OPEN individual hack/hunter event at a State Capital Royal Show or Champion/Reserve at a Show Horse Council Grand National Qualifier or EA Horse of the Year – National Qualifier. Horses entered in Novice classes need not be NSH registered, but must hold a form of registration. They must also have a current official SHC height certificate. RIDER CLASSES - GRAND NATIONAL QUALIFYING CLASSES At Shows conducted in accordance with the Show Horse Council Rules, the Mount of a Rider used in a Rider under Nine years Competition shall be restricted to not exceed a height of 14.0hh. The Mount of a Rider in a Nine years and under Twelve years Competition shall be restricted to not exceed a height of 14.2hh. Mounts used for rider classes MUST be NSH registered and must also have a current official SHC height certificate. Riders must be FINANCIAL members of an SHC Affiliate at the time of qualification. Champion and Reserve Champion winners are eligible to represent their state at 2014 Grand National Championships. Mounts OWNER RIDER CLASSES Horses are to be aged 3yrs and over. To be ridden by the registered owner and/or immediate family member (e.g. mother, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, etc). Horses entered in Owner Rider classes need not be NSH registered, but must hold a form of registration. They must also have a current official SHC height certificate. CHILDS CLASSES – GRAND NATIONAL QUALIFYING CLASSES Childs classes are open to Show Hacks and Show Hunters when ridden by a child under 17 years. THE WINNER OF CHAMPION ONLY IN THESE CLASSES QUALIFIES FOR COMPETITION IN THE CHILDRENS DAY AT 2013 GRAND NATIONALS. Horses competing in Childs classes MUST be NSH registered and hold a current official SHC height certificate. Childs classes can be ridden in either a snaffle or double bridle. The Ridden Shetland class is to be ridden by a rider under 14 years, all other child’s classes to be ridden by riders under 17 years of age. These classes will be judged by one judge and the winner of each class is eligible to compete at the Children’s Day at the 2014 Grand National Championships in Sydney. CHILDREN CAN NOT BE LED IN THESE CLASSES – For riders competing off the lead independently. OPEN SHOW HUNTER CLASSES - GRAND NATIONAL QUALIFYING CLASSES Horses are eligible to compete as a Show Hack or Show Hunter, but not both. Horses need to be aged 3yrs and over. Horses ridden in Open Show Hunter of the Year MUST be NSH registered and must hold a current official SHC height certificate. Champion and Reserve Champion winners are eligible to represent their state at 2014 Grand National Championships in Sydney. Show Hunters will be judged on the flat and the work out will include a gallop (weather permitting). Show Hunters must be shown in a plain browband. Riders should preferably wear tweed jackets. OPEN SHOW HACK CLASSES - GRAND NATIONAL QUALIFYING CLASSES Horses are eligible to compete as a Show Hack or Show Hunter, but not both. Horses need to be aged 3yrs and over. Horses ridden in Open Show Hack of the Year MUST be NSH registered and must hold a current official SHC height certificate. Champion and Reserve Champion winners are eligible to represent their state at 2014 Grand National Championships in Sydney. LEADING REIN - GRAND NATIONAL QUALIFYING CLASSES A Pony 12.0hh and under, rider to be 3 years and under 8 years on day of show; snaffle bridle only; attendant must fix the leading rein to the noseband; and at all times lead with the rein the left hand; the reins should go directly to the child’s hand; string or any aid fastened to the saddle to keep the pony’s head in position is not permitted; no spurs or whips; handler may carry a cane; rider should at least be able to rise to the trot; clothing and equipment to be similar to a show pony or show hunter class but NOT judged as a smartest on parade; handler to be suitably attired. Ponies competing in lead rein MUST be NSH registered and must hold a current official SHC height certificate. Champion & Reserve are eligible to represent their state at the 2014 Grand National Championships in Sydney.

Please include a copy of the following documents and ensure that you have the originals with you at the show:

NSH Certificate of Registration

Current SHC Measuring Certificate (ONLY SHC Card/Certificate Accepted)

IF YOUR ENTRY HAS TO BE RETURNED OR IS INCORRECT OR HAS INSUFFICIENT PAPERWORK OR MONEY ENCLOSED – A HANDLING FEE OF $20 WILL BE CHARGED

If your NSH registration is “pending” and you send a copy of the NSH Application with your entry, this is acceptable until the registration certificate can be issued.
