With Korea currently experiencing a buoyant trading atmosphere, opportunities are rife for food and drink

companies to grow their business. With the country dependant on food imports, and local agriculture and food

production failing to keep pace with the increasing demand, Korea offers the perfect market for international

exporters. Plus, the younger generation’s exposure to western-style foods, brands and tastes, through overseas

travel and study, is increasing their familiarity and acceptance of international food products.

Meat Korea 2013 Pork is the most popular meat consumed in Korea and

continues to grow. Behind pork, beef and chicken are

also popular meats and have grown at similar rates since

1980, with beef consumption alone expected to rise

14% in the 2011 – 2016 period. Meat Korea 2013

provides a dedicated platform for meat producers and

processors looking to develop their

business in Korea, and capitalise on

this huge market.

Wine Korea 2013In 2011, after a free trade agreement was signed between

South Korea and the European Union, wine consumption

in Korea grew by 8.4% compared to 2010. Forecasts

expect that this growth will be sustained between 2011

and 2015 to reach 26.44% by the end of the 5-year period.

South Korea today is the third largest Asian

wine market after China and Japan. Wine

Korea 2013 provides the most established

marketing platform in Korea for both new to

market and established wine brands to take

advantage of this growing market.

FOCUSED SECTORS AT SEOUL FOOD & HOTEL

The Innovation Norway pavilion exhibited to promote Norwegian products and our companies made many good contacts, especially with potential importers.

Ms Kilwon Lee, Royal Norwegian Embassy

Seafood at Seoul Food & Hotel 2013In 2011, Korea’s seafood imports from all origins

reached $3.83 billion, up 24 percent from $3.09 billion

in 2010. Until 2000, Korea was a net exporter of

seafood, however, growing domestic demand and

limited supplies have reversed the situation. In 2011,

Korea exported $1.98 billion of seafood and imported

about $1.85 billion more than it exported, with imports

expected to continue to outpace exports ensuring

that Korea will remain an important market for

seafood suppliers.
