AGAINST ALL ODDSNo one ever said, that climbing that proverbial ladder, of harvesting giant mature whitetails on video year after year would be easy. Well little did we know, how hard it could truly be….until this past season unfolded. The deck was stacked against the Drury Team with the odds highly in favor of Mother Nature. It began with a drought stricken country unlike anything we’ve ever witnessed. It was compared to the “Dust Bowl” period of yester-year. We have yet to recover or replenish ground water supplies. Food plots would be at a premium for the season ahead. And then, the dreaded EHD stories began pouring in!

Dead buck after dead buck throughout the country on every true blue, red blooded deer hunters “iPhone, Droid and Flip Phone”. Monster after monster found dead with the stench of decaying carcasses filling the air. And if that’s not enough, warm balmy weather for much of the season kept a subdued rut occurring mostly at night under the cover of darkness. Every little weather front with a low pressure system moving out and a high pressure system moving in became a premium! If a differential of 10 to 15 degrees came along, we had to use it to our advantage. We were keying in on the slightest of weather events. Then lastly but certainly not the very least…a moon waxing full on the 29th of October and the 28th of November! Wow, that is as late as you can make it to trigger those estrous cycles for the entire whitetail population.

Can deer season be filled with any more doom and gloom? What will the season bring when you are up against powers far superior than a simple “stick and string” or “smoke pole”? Somehow, someway, the Drury Team began flexing their powerhouse muscles. Slowly but surely buck after buck began gracing the pages of our journal with incredible stories of each. How was it happening, how is it even possible for this band of brothers to continue their display of hunting prowess and expertise on a year that was destined for failure?

Well, they did it and continued picking up momentum as the season progressed. Only a team of seasoned professionals could knock down 50 big game animals with their PSE’s and 32 with their Thompson Center’s in hand. The season ended up on a very very high note only to say that this team of skilled and highly motivated, but extremely passionate hunters did it with grace and with style by going “Against All Odds!” This was a true testimony of who the DOD Team is and what they are made of!
