NEW SKILLED ENGINEERS & HIGH-TECH EQUIPMENT

New Skilled Engineers & High-Tech Equipment
NEW SKILLED ENGINEERS
Demand for the products that Sta-Lok
manufactures was extremely high in 2013. As a
result we saw fit to increase our performance and
our output.
In order to do this we elected to recruit new
engineers. These new engineers came from the
aerospace industry and brought with them a high
level of skill, precision and ability to the Sta-Lok
factory and helped to reinforce our highly
qualified team.
This increase in manpower also allowed us to
extend our factory hours opening up the
opportunity for an increased product output. This
has enabled us to strengthen our delivery
performance and increase stock of our best
sellers.
NEW MILLING MACHINE
It wasn’t only an increase in manpower that
enabled our factory to increase its performance
in 2013.
We also opted to purchase and install a new high-
tech milling machine. The new CNC machine is a
great tool which allows us to increase our
production for the larger and more technical
products in the Sta-Lok range.
In order to ensure we use these machines to their
full potential and optimize our output we also
employed a new CNC miller to operate the new
equipment.
NEW PRODUCTS AND INNOVATION
Page 3
New Products and Innovation
Last year saw Sta-Lok continue to innovate and
display a great ability to design and manufacture
high quality rigging hardware with a collection of
new products.
NEW STA-LOK STEMBALL TERMINAL
In 2013 we unveiled our new Sta-Lok Stemball
Terminals. These self fit terminals for mast,
spreader and tip cups offer an easy way to
terminate the wire using just simple hand tools.
Stemball Cups can also be used to bring the head
size up to fit differing mast or spreader bracket
requirements. The Sta-Lok Stemball Terminal is a
great product offering excellent articulation and
ease of installation.
EXPANDED RANGE OF GUARD RAIL FITTINGS
We also took the opportunity in 2013 to
announce our new and expanded range of Guard
Rail and Life Line fittings. This new range
includes Guard Rail Eyes, Pelican Hooks, Tension
Forks and a range of Sta-Lok equipped fittings.
These high quality fittings ensure utmost safety
when moving around the boat.
NEW SPREADER END TIP CUP
But these were not all; in November we unveiled
our brand new Spreader End Tip Cup. This highly
anticipated product range is expertly
manufactured from high grade Stainless Steel in
our UK factory and utilises a fully machined
system. In order to offer the utmost ease in terms
of ordering and fitting, the Spreader End Tip Cup
is supplied with the necessary terminals
including Stemball Swages and a Forged Bronze
Turnbuckle.
A REGATTA, A RESEARCH VESSEL & SOME BIG RIGGING

CELTIC REGATTA
June of 2013 saw the hotly contested Celtic
Regatta take place off the coast of Wales and Sta-
Lok were extremely proud to be one of this year’s
sponsors. Hosted by Pwllheli Sailing Club, the
racing was a highly exciting affair with Jezebel
taking a narrow victory on the third and final day.
SONG OF THE WHALE
Last year also saw a great opportunity for us to
provide a rerig for an important and exciting
yacht. R.V. Song of the Whale was fully rerigged
with Sta-Lok Fittings in May 2013. The 70-foot
research vessel owned by the International Fund
for Animal Welfare was specifically designed for
carrying out research on whales and other
marine fauna.
Song of the Whale utilises gentle research
methods including encasing the engine-room in a
faraday cage to contain electrical fields and
operates largely under sail to reduce the impact
on the animals being researched.
THE BEAGLE
Rerigging The Beagle offered us the opportunity
to use some of the largest Sta-Lok terminals we
manufacture, and in one of the remotest areas.
The project for the 105 foot luxury yacht took
place in the Galapagos Islands and was one of our
biggest singular jobs operating out of the USA.
WIRE ROPE ASSEMBLIES & BALUSTRADES

WEMBLEY OUTLET CENTRE
In 2013 the Wembley Outlet Centre opened in
Wembley Park. This new shopping centre located
next to the iconic Wembley Stadium offers
350,000 square foot of retail space, a number of
bars and restaurants and a cinema complex.
For the completion of this project Novum
Structures enlisted Sta-Lok with supplying Toggle
End & Tensioner Assembly Cables for canopy
systems in the complex.
MERCEDES-BENZ WORLD
Another of our favourite architectural projects
undertaken last year occurred in December 2013.
We were approached by Charles Ash Limited to
produce cables to be used as balustrading for a
new viewing platform at Mercedes-Benz World.
The facility at the historic Brooklands racing
circuit in Surrey offers a wealth of potential
experiences for car enthusiasts including an
Under 16s Driving Experience which the new
viewing platform now overlooks. It is a highly
aesthetically pleasing project and one we are
happy to have been involved with.
EVENTS & OCCURRENCES

Events & Occurrences
IVOR BARFIELD’S 90TH BIRTHDAY
In Sta-Lok’s 40th year we also witnessed another
important birthday. In July, Ivor Barfield our
founder and chairman celebrated his 90th
Birthday. It was Ivor who first designed the Sta-
Lok terminal and introduced it at the London
Boat Show in 1973. Ivor still makes regular visits
to Sta-Lok and we are proud to still be a family
run business with a strong set of core values.
BROOKS JONES AND SAILING SERVICES’ DISTRIBUTORS LONG SERVICE AWARD
Our 40th year of operation also meant that 2013
was the 40th year of working with Brooks Jones
and Sailing Services. This four decade long
relationship between Sta-Lok and Brooks is
something we are extremely proud of. In order to
show our appreciation to Brooks we took the
opportunity during 2013’s United States Sailboat
Show in Annapolis to present him with a
Distributors Long Service Award.
MARINE EQUPMENT TRADE SHOW 2013
The biggest Exhibition in the Sta-Lok calendar is
the Marine Equipment Trade Show or METS. This
year marked our 26th time exhibiting in
Amsterdam and proved to be a great show.
Our team reported a hectic and busy but
ultimately highly enjoyable time at METS. They
experienced many successful meetings over the
three day event and offered us a great
opportunity to come face to face with a range of
customer and interested parties from all over the
world. Throughout the course of the show it was
great to hear the praise the attendees had for the
Sta-Lok brand, our products and the stand we
displayed from.
DIGITAL DEVELOPMENT

Digital Development
NEW ARCHITECTURAL WEBSITE CHANGES
Towards the end of 2013 the architectural
portion of our website underwent some changes.
We have now added a wide range of our Rod
Systems, Wire Rope Assemblies and Wire
Balustrades to the website in the form of all new
product pages.
All of these offer a wealth of information about
the products, pictures of their applications and,
most importantly, a live pricing and ordering
system. This allows customers and website
visitors a quick and easy way to get an
instantaneous quote for the system they desire.
To coincide with the launch of these new product
pages we elected to offer visitors to the website a
better way to navigate. As such our new
Architectural Mega Menu was born. With
pictographic representations of the products and
ranges on offer it is now easier than ever to locate
the Sta-Lok product you want to view or order
straight from the website.
DIGITAL MEDIA
Our 40th year also saw Sta-Lok shifting some of
our attention towards digital media.
Communicating digitally is such a huge part of
modern life that we decided it was truly time to
dive in. This year has seen us step up production
of exciting and engaging content on our blog with
new stories and interesting information
appearing often as well as delving into social
media.
To aid this development we have taken on a
recent graduate as our Digital Marketing
Executive and Sta-Lok now have an established
presence on Facebook, Twitter, Google + and
LinkedIn. We are dedicated to utilising these tools
in order to expand our Awesome Customer
Service Charter online and connect with those we
do business with.
