Eco-sustainability

Haikure is an Italian denim brand for man and woman that launched their first collection in 2011. The brand's mission is to respect people and nature by promoting a new lifestyle, which takes both new fashion trends and sustainability into account. Haikure became a MADE-BY member in autumn 2010. This will be the first Scorecard published for Haikure.

Social Conditions in Factories:Haikure's entire 2012 collection is produced in Italy. This is considered to be a low risk country, where labour rights are protected by law and unions. This results in a 100% Class A score for the Social Scorecard. Environmental Impact of Raw Materials.

In 2012, just over 41% of Haikure's collection was made up of sustainable fibres. 35% of the collection was comprised of Class B rated fibres, either Organic Cotton or Tencel. A small amount of recycled cotton ( Class A ) was also used within the garments as well as linen ( Class C ) and hemp ( Class C ). The remaining mate-rials used within the collection include conven-tional cotton and viscose ( Class E ). As a denim brand, cotton is an important fibre for Haikure. Out of all the cotton used, 27% was Organic cotton and 1% was recycled cotton.

Innovation

Jeans, among the most popular and worn clothing items ever, becomes green thanks to an idea of Italian brand haikure that launched Laser Wash, a new ecological treatment. The classic sandblasting is then avoided, while we have a new laser technology instead, which also allows to reduce the amount of water needed.

Besides, already for several years a sort of ‘pre-wash’ has been used that involves a substantial water waste, as well as costs which are prohibitive both from the financial and environmen-tal point of view. But haikure’s new proposal has solved this difficulty and the issue of sandblasting, another process far from being ecological. This very year, association Labour Behind the Label has asked to forbid the practice of sandblasting in some famous jeans brands’ factories, owing to the serious health risks it poses for workers in terms of overexposure to silica dust, utilized in the process. Last winter, the awareness campaign Abiti Puliti (“Clean Clothes”) was run in Italy, having the slogan: “Stop sandblasted jeans”, in the context of the international Clean Clothes Campaign.Haikure seems to have come up with a solution for the first time, opting for the new laser wash process where, even if water is used, smaller amounts of it are needed and the effect on garments is produced by a low-power automatic laser. This is because we respect the environment and nature of all people, and safeguard every worker’s health and conditions. This is the environment we live in, this is haikure.

This month we of haikure are focusing on the product, as well as on the details and the poetry that every garment can delicately show, becau-se haikure is music, haikure is emotion, it’s strong, unique sensations that all our staff are committed and eager to impress on every inch of your chosen items. This month we are talking especially about details because, as they say, beauty is in details: ours are simple, expressive details, but what really matters about our items is you, it’s having you as the protagonist, with your style and class!Besides, December will be the last month when you will be able to vote and so elect the winner of the new haikure face competition. As usual, see you on Facebook, there we are ready to share our whole world with you... anyone who’s in touch with us knows that one of the four key points in our philosophy is having you as the only protagonists of what we do… and what we are!
