Mrs. Stephanie’s Preschool News During the month of October we observed Fire Prevention Month by having the fire department visit our preschool classes. The children enjoyed looking at the equipment, climbing inside the fire truck and we even got a little wet when the firefighters sprayed the fire hose.

We predicted what was inside a pumpkin and then cut one open to see if we were correct. We also made charts stating how each child thought the pumpkin felt inside. They used many good descriptions such as “yucky”, “squishy” and “gooey”!

Mrs. Jennifer’s Preschool spent October studying fire safety, bats, spiders, and Pumpkins. We had a visit from the fire department and got to go through a fire truck. We carved pumpkins and ate the seeds too!

NEWS FROM FIFTH GRADE “I’ve always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come. I don’t do things half-heartedly. I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.” – Michael Jordan

Effort: A conscious exertion of power,a serious attempt.

Have you ever watched a basketball game being played…a few players will give 110% effort the entire time they are on the court. These guys or girls may not be able to play the entire game, but while IN the game, you can count on them to score and defend the ball. On the other hand, there are players in the game who only give 50% effort. These players could last the entire game without a break. Which is best? Which would you want on your team: a player giving 110% for shorter periods of time or a player giving 50% the entire game? I know which player I would want!!

Athletes who give 110% effort, no matter what sport, will play their positions with everything they have to give. You will be able to count on these players to defend the ball with all their hearts when on defense and to fight to score with all that is within them when on offense.

How does this apply to our lives? How often do YOU give less than your best effort? How often do YOU complete work with less than 110% effort so you can just “get by” at school or with chores or responsibilities at home?

If YOU are giving less than you are capable of doing, then are you really doing the best that you can? NO! We do our best work when we give all we’ve got …when we give whatever 100% is for us.

When are you most likely to give your “best” effort? In the things you love to do, of course! Unfortunately, the older you get, you are sometimes asked to complete tasks or assignments that are not appealing in some way. You have to learn to Sweat it Out! Nothing compares to hard work. Nothing can give you more confidence than the hard work you have done while completing the task…no matter what it is. Kick out the Negative thoughts! When they come, just kick them out. They have no place in your mind and body. Bad thoughts need to be crushed at the first instance. Think, “I can!” and chances are much greater that you will be successful!!

Remember success goes only to those who give their best effort. In order to give your best effort, you may need an awakening within yourself. Good things take longer, but they are always within the grasp of those who give 100%. How quickly and conveniently you achieve your goal depends upon how prepared you are to give your best effort.

Take a minute and ask yourself this question:

What’s holding you back from giving your best effort?

After School News Because of our enrollment is up, we have some new people added to our after school. The first is Sam Terry. Sam is a student at OCTC and is interested in Education! We have also had to adjust our schedules some because of all the new people and trying to fit everyone into the requirements of After School. Please encourage your children to be the "BEST BOBCAT" they can be and it will continue to be a great place to send your children for after school care!

Kindergarten News For the month of October kindergarten classes celebrated Halloween. Students participated in writing their own story about Jack-O-Lanterns, reading Halloween books, creating a candy graph, and several other activities with pumpkins. Several students came to trick-or-treat and enjoyed seeing the kindergarten team dressed as babies! They had fun laughing at teachers, scaring us in their costumes, and most of all getting a bag full of candy! On Halloween kindergarteners made a spooky spider treat. They loved making their spider, and eating him too! Hope everyone else had fun celebrating!
