Feb. 18, 2012 7:07 p.m. Bemidji State notables: uBemidji State dropped a 3-0 contest at No. 7 Minnesota last night. Following the loss, the Beavers move to 15-13-3 overall and 9-11-3 in WCHA to sit in a tie for ninth place in the league standings (21 pts) with St. Cloud State (12-15-4; 9-11-3 WCHA). uMinnesota built its lead in the BSU-UM series to 8-1-1 and is unbeaten in the last three meetings between the teams (2-0-1). BSU’s last victory over the Gophers came at Mariucci Arena Nov. 15, 2009 (W, 6-2). uSince the Beavers made the jump to the NCAA Division I ranks for the 1999-2000 campaign, BSU is 19- 53-4 (.280) versus teams in the top-15. With that said, BSU is now 17-18-2 (.500) versus the top 15 since the beginning of the 2008-09 campaign. BSU is 5-8-0 (.417) versus the nationally-ranked in 2011-12. uBemidji State has now made six WCHA series road trips in 2011-12. The Beavers look to avoid being swept in on the road in league play for the fourth time tonight by gaining at least a tie. uThe Beavers struggles continued on the road last night. BSU is now 4-9-2 away from Sanford Center this season while it is 11-4-1 on home ice. uLast night’s shut out marked just the second time this season the Beavers have been held without a goal, snapping a string of 22 games with a tally dating back to an Oct. 29 1-0 loss at Minnesota Duluth. uSince the beginning of the 2003-04 campaign, BSU is 7-2-1 in the game immediately following a shut out and have averaged 3.8 goals in those contests. uThe Beavers have only been blanked in back-to-back games once since making the jump to the NCAA Divi- sion I level for the 1999-2000 season. Minnesota State swept BSU with matching 4-0 victories Nov. 5-6, 2004. uBSU’s 13 shots on goal last night stood as a season-low and marked the Beavers’ lowest shot total since a 13-shot night versus North Dakota Feb. 24, 2008 (L, 1-0). uBrad Hunt’s logged his 84th collegiate assist Feb. 11 extending his assists records at BSU. He is the Beavers’ Division I-era leader in helpers, while he also holds the all-time BSU record for assists by a D-man. uWith 107 points (23g-84a) Brad Hunt currently sits tied with Chris Morque (1990-94) atop BSU’s all-time scoring by defensemen list. A point tonight would solidify him as BSU top-scoring blueliner of all time. uPlaying in tonight’s contest, Brad Hunt will establish a BSU Division I-era record for consecutive games played (144). BSU great Matt Read (2008-11) previously held the record at 143. Hunt has never missed a game. uIt’s not all that uncommon for a team to be held without a power-play goal in any individual game, but last night didn’t get a single power-play opportunity (0-for-0). Since Bemidji State made the jump to the NCAA Division I level for the 1999-2000 season, that has only happened four times in 459 games and two have come in the Bea- vers’ last 10 games. BSU was also 0-for-0 Dec. 17 versus Bowling Green. uThe Beavers are 1-3-1 in Olympic-sized ice this season dropping two games at Colorado College (Oct. 14-15) and gaining three points at St. Cloud State with a 6-6 tie and 3-1 victory (Dec. 2-3) before last night’s loss. BSU is 1-7-0 all-time on the Olympic ice of Mariucci Arena. uLast night’s shut out snapped Aaron McLeod’s three-game scoring streak, but he continues to lead all BSU players with six points (2g-4a) in the Beavers’ last four games. In five career games versus UM, he has three goals (3-0=0) to lead all current BSU players. uWith 33 saves last night, senior goaltender Dan Bakala surpassed BSU great Matt Climie (2,201) for second on BSU’s D-I saves list. Bakala now has 2,219 career saves. Grady Hunt (2000-04) is tops on the list with 2,717. uDespite holding the Gophers scoreless in the third period last night, the Beavers have been out scored 32-24 in the third period this year, which includes a 28-18 differential in WCHA play--No WCHA team has allowed more goals in the third. uLast night Bemidji State was out shot 36-13. For the year, BSU trails its opponents in shots on goal 945- 753, which includes a 747-565 differential in 23 WCHA games. BSU is now 8-11-3 when being out shot, 6-2-0 when out shooting its opponent and 1-0-0 when shots are even. uBemidji State was held without a power-play opportunity last night. BSU is now 19-for-95 (.200) on the man advantage this season and 15-73 (.205) in the WCHA to rank sixth in league play. uAfter snuffing out 3-of-4 Minnesota power-plays last night, the BSU penalty-kill is now 108-128 (.844) on the season to sit 12th in the country, which includes killing 81-of-96 (.844) in WCHA play to lead the league. uOf the 58 Division I men’s hockey teams, only Dartmouth (89), which has played six fewer games than BSU, has fewer power-play opportunities than the Beavers’ 95 chances this winter. In WCHA play, BSU has just 73 PP opportunities trailing its nearest opponent, St. Cloud State (81) and by eight. Minnesota State leads the league with 119 man advantage opportunities. uBemidji State enters the series finale averaging 2.61 goals per game in WCHA play to rank 10th in scoring offense.
