Dear Friends,
I am pleased to welcome you to my Women of Distinction celebration.
Women of Distinction celebrates the unique contributions of women throughout
our history, as well as those who enrich the quality of life in our communities
today.
These women have playedand continue to playcrucial roles in New Yorks
political, social and economic development.
As your State Senator, I am proud to recognize all the Women of Distinction from
the 48th Senate District, but especially those honorees and nominees who we
celebrate today.

Woman of Distinction 2012 Nominee
Jan Rebeor is retired from Ed Vayner & Associates, and has lived in Oswego Countyher whole life. She graduated from Oswego High School and obtained her associatesdegree in business from Central City Business Institute in 1961.
In 1999, Mrs. Rebeor received a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer. She cites cancer
with changing her outlook on life and appreciates every moment that she has with her
husband, her children and her grandchildren. She says that she is trying now to live
the life Im living, giving what I can back to the community I live in, and being out thereenjoying people.
Mrs. Rebeor is involved with Fultons Project Bloom, the annual City of Fulton
Community Development Agency Home Show, the United Way Stone Soup luncheons,
St. Lukes John Foster Burden Fund, Fultons Tree/Arbor Day Committee, Tunes in June,
Friends of Voorhees Park, Jazz Fest, and the City of Fultons Christmas lighting and
decorations, just to name a few.
In 2007, the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce created a new award in her
honor. Every year the Chamber presents the Jan Rebeor Community Champion Award
to a chamber member from the Greater Fulton community who has shown an unselsh
long-term commitment to the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce. Mrs.
Rebeor has also received the 2007 Community Service Award from the Fulton Noon
Rotary Club.

Barbara Bateman
Barbara Bateman is the senior vice president of Alliance Bank, where she hasworked for 25 years, and is the current President of the Oswego-Fulton Chamber Boardof Directors. She is a member of Zonta of Oswego County, the Red Cross Board, the
Salvation Army Board, Cayuga County Community College Foundation Board and many
others. She also serves as president of the Friends of Oswego County Hospice Board;
President of the Alliance Charitable Foundation Board; and Treasurer, soon to be Vice
President, of the Operation Oswego County Board. Barbara was nominated for her
dedication to volunteerism and community service. She has been married for 34 years
and has three children and two grandchildren.

Woman of Distinction 2012 Nominee
Kathleen Fenlon is the Executive Director of the Oswego City County YouthBureau. She has served as Chair of the Youth Council on the Workforce DevelopmentBoard, as President of the United Way Board, as Treasurer of the Association of New
York State Youth Bureaus, as Secretary of the Board of the Weston T. Hyde Foundation,
as past President and Vice President of the Oswego Schools Board, and as a member
of the Child Protection Advisory Council. She is a founding member of the Oswego
County Child Care Council, and a co-founder of Take Charge: Substance Abuse Coalition.
For her work she has received the Zonta Woman of the Year, the Leadership Oswego
County Community Leadership Award, the Polly Sanders Award, and the United Way
Company Team of the Year Award. She was nominated for her inuence on the lives
of young people and individuals in need, her tireless ght to maintain and grow youth
programs, and her ability to perform her job with compassion, grace, kindness, and
absolute resolve. Kathleen is married and has two daughters.

Charlotte Garofalo
Charlotte Garofalo is the Director of the Gouverneur Reading Room at theGouverneur Library. Charlotte transformed the library from a little-used building intoa hub of the community. She led the charge for the change of the attic space to a
beautiful loft for the periodical collection and comfortable reading/study space, and
has organized countless programs for people of all ages in the community. She is also a
member of the Kiwanis Club and belongs to Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
For her work, she has won the New York State Library Association Award for library loft
renovation in 2008 and the Excellence in Library Service Award in 2008. She enjoys
kayaking, snowshoeing and reading, and she is married with a son.

Mary Lou Guindon
Mary Lou Guindon is the site coordinator of Oswego County OpportunitiesParish Senior Dining and Activities Center. Mary Lou writes a weekly news columncalled Positively Parish, is the Chair of the Committee for Community Aairs and Parks
and Preservation, and is co-Chair of the Parish Economic Development Task Force. She
is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, coordinator for Red Cross blood drives,
and founder of the New Hope Church Friday Soup and Sandwich. She is also the Vice-
President of the APW Alumni Association and one of the founding members of the APW
Educational Foundation, which she now serves as secretary. Mary Lou is a member
of the Parish Historical Society, and a Councilwoman on the Parish Town Board. Mary
Lou was nominated for dedicating endless hours to the Parish community, as well as
her ability to attempt and succeed at any task put before her. She is married with four
children and several grandchildren, and she enjoys cooking and baking.

Woman of Distinction 2012 Nominee
Sabine Ingerson
Sabine Ingerson is the director of ARISE in Oswego. Sabine has organized andplanned annual weekends for District 7150 Rotary exchange students since 2006, andhas hosted exchange students from Venezuela and Ecuador. She has served lunches
at the Salvation Army, helped with Project Bloom planting, assisted with local annual
spelling bees, and volunteered for the local Meals on Wheels organization. She
currently serves on the Oswego County Autism Task Force, Oswego County Fair Housing
Committee, Literacy Coalition of Oswego County, Transportation Coalition, Multiple and
Developmental Disabilities Committees, Oswego Rotary Club, and the Zonta Club of
Oswego. Sabine received the Hannibal United Methodist Woman of the Year in 2005.
She was nominated for her passion and dedication in advocating for the needs of not
only her own children, but all people. She recognizes the importance of advocacy with
regard to the Americans with Disabilities Act and accessibility for all. Sabine is married
and has three children.

Tammie Miller
Tammie Miller is the director of the Fairgrounds YMCA. Since she became director,Tammie has expanded membership from 400 to 2,700, increased the number of youthwho receive nancial assistance for programs annually, and successfully implemented a
capital expansion with the addition of an arts center, new cardio center and expanded
child watch. She is an active volunteer, serving as a member of the Watertown Rotary
Club and the American Association of University Women for more than six years. She
also serves as Chair of the Adirondack Mountain Club Education and Conservation
Committee and is a member of the Executive Committee for the North Country Arts
Council. She regularly presents at conferences and training seminars, covering a wide
spectrum of topics that ranges from art to yoga to healthy body image. Tammie was
nominated for her willingness to give back to her community, work with children
and ability to help the Fairgrounds YMCA achieve success. She is married with three
children.

Karen Peebles
Karen Peebles is the broker and owner of Peebles Realty, Inc. and the TownJustice in the Town of Adams. She has been Town Justice of Adams for more than 20years, and is a Jeerson-Lewis Board of Realtors past President. She is a member of
the State Magistrates Association and a member of the Womens Council of Realtors.
She organizes the annual blood drive for the Board of Realtors, volunteers for Habitat
for Humanity, and is a sponsor for the Adams Annual Cheese Festival with the South
Jeerson Chamber of Commerce. Karen was nominated for her inner drive to succeed
that has made her a successful businesswoman, wife, mother, and member of thecommunity. She is married and has two children.

Cathy Trowbridge
Cathy Trowbridge is the Administrative Assistant to Mayor Ronald Woodward,and the former Administrative Assistant to Mayor Daryl Hayden. She volunteers forthe United Way; Fifth Ward Neighborhood Crime Watch; the New Visions Program; and
the Open Door Neighborhood Committee of the First United Church of Fulton, which
was organized to create a safe environment and design activities for the seniors,
families and children of the neighborhood. Cathy has had years of involvement in the
Memorial Day Salute in Fulton, and was elected to serve as the City of Fulton Fifth Ward
Alderman. She has worked tirelessly to upgrade neighborhoods and bring care to ward
residents, paying particular attention to the senior population. Cathy was nominated
for her unique ability to interact with people regardless of their circumstances. She has
excellent communication skills and an ability to identify the positive in every person.
Cathy is married and has three children and a grandchild.
