Welcome!Praise the LORD!How good it is to sing praises to our God,how pleasant and fitting to praise him! Psalm 147:1

Welcome to the 2012 WELS Regional Choral Festival and to West Lutheran High School. It is a special privilege to host this event which is now in its 45th year. The mission of all the area Lutheran high schools that participate in this festival is the same: to provide a Christ-centered education to young people, preparing them for lives of discipleship on earth and, especially preparing them for heaven. This festival is just one

of the many examples of why our high schools exist. This special experience is an opportunity for our young people to sing praises to their creator and re-deemer, grow in grace, and bring joy to the hearts of the parents and members in attendance.

This event will emphasize the marvelous and varied gifts that the Lord has given

to the church through our youth. This weekend we will en-joy the blessing of seeing future leaders in the church glorify God with their talents. Parents, directors, and others in atten-dance should be filled with a feeling of thankfulness for the gift of Christian secondary education offered by our a r e a Lutheran high schools.

The West Lutheran family is grateful to the direc-tors, choirs, and the many volunteers that have made it possible to host this festival. May God con-tinue to richly bless our area Lutheran high schools so that our youth and the families that we serve bring glory to His name!

The A Cappella Choir is thrilled to be back in cool country. Writing this in September when the temps are still in the 100’s makes us anxious for the cool fall temps of the Midwest. The choir is made up of 10th-12th graders who audition to travel with this group. The A Cappella Choir also functions as the choir that sings throughout the ALA federation churches in Arizona.

Evergreen Lutheran High SchoolDes Moines, WashingtonThe Festival Choir of Evergreen Lutheran High School is a group of dedicated singers that repre-sents our school and our Lord, serving as musical ambassadors. These singers are chosen by audi-tion from members of the Concert Choir. Besides traveling to Choral Festival each year, this choir also sings at local congregations, goes on a week-end tour around the Pacific Northwest in spring, and represents Evergreen at other special events. Our students immensely enjoy this unique op-portunity to meet and sing with fellow Chris-tians at Choral Festival each year. We would like to say a big “thank you” to West Lutheran High School and especially Greg Baures for hosting this wonderful festival, and for all the hard work and countless hours that went into preparing for this weekend.

The GPL Honor Choir is a select group of sing-ers that has the privilege of serving their Lord, school, community, and GPL Association with the gift of music. The choir performs for three home concerts, tours every other year, and performs at Region Music Contest and other state and lo-cal events. We would like to thank our choreog-rapher, Rachel Trimmer, for her time and talent. We would also like to thank our host congrega-tion, West Lutheran, Gregory Baures, and every-one involved in making this festival possible for a memorable and enriching weekend.

Northland Lutheran High SchoolMosinee, WisconsinThe original Northwinds were formed specifi-cally only to participate in the annual Choral Fes-tivals. In the years since they have developed into the primary touring and recruitment choir of our school. As such, they visit our congrega-tions and grade schools; also, they sing in con-tests and at community events. Recent editions of the Northwinds have had some success in the Wisconsin State Ensemble Festivals. It has been a pleasure learning to work together and perform-ing together this year already. Thanks to West Lutheran for giving us an opportunity to do that again at this festival!

Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal - Mass Choir Tune: Invitation Text: Traditional

Arranged by Alice Parker ©1967 Lawson-Gould; ©1995 WB Music; LG51331

Hark, I hear the harps eternal Ringing on the farther shore, As I near those swollen waters, With their deep and solemn roar. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, praise the Lamb, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Glory to the great I AM.

And my soul though stained with sorrow, Fading as the light of day, Passes swiftly o’er those waters To the city far away. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, praise the Lamb, Oh! Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Glory to the great I AM.

Souls have crossed before me, saintly, To that land of perfect rest; And I hear them singing faintly In the mansions of the blest. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, I praise the Lamb, Oh, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Glory to the great I AM.

Now the Green Blade Rises - Jubilate Choir Tune: Noel Nouvelet Text: John MacLeod Campbell Crum, alt

Arranged by David Mennicke ©2008 Birnamwood; MSM-50-4100

Now the green blade rises from the buried grain. Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been; Love is come again like wheat arising green.

In the grave they laid him, love by hatred slain, Thinking that he would never wake again, Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen; Love is come again like wheat arising green.

Forth he came at Easter like the risen grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain; Raised from the dead, my living Lord is seen; Love is come again like wheat arising green.

When our hearts are wintry, grieving, or in pain, Your touch can call us back to life again. Fields of our hearts that dead and bare have been; Love is come again like wheat arising green.

Let Me Hide Myself in Thee - Exultate Choir Tune: Toplady Text: Augustus M. Toplady, 1776

Music: Thomas Hastings Setting: Craig Courtney

© 2010 Beckenhorst Press; BP1904Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee; let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure.

Nothing in my hand I bring, simply to the cross I cling; naked, come to thee for dress; helpless, look to thee for grace; foul, I to the fountain fly; wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath, when mine eyes shall close in death, when I soar to worlds unknown, see thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee.

Halle, Halle, Halle - Exultate Choir Tune: Traditional Caribbean Vocal Arranger: John Bell, Graham Maule

Verses, alt harmony, accompaniment Arranger: Marty Haugen ©1990 Iona; ©1993 GIA; G-3961

Hallelujah.

Oh God, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of life. Let your words be our prayer and the song we sing: Hallelujah, hallelujah.

My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord. When I call them, they follow me. I will lead them to rest by the restful streams: Hallelujah, hallelujah.

I am the light of the word, says the Lord. Walk in the light of life. All who follow my words shall have life indeed: Hallelujah, hallelujah.

Psalm 100 - Women’s Choir Text: Psalm 100, alt Music: René Clausen

©1986 Fostco Music; MF0917Make a joyful noise to the Lord, serve the Lord with gladness, come into His presence with singing, Alleluia.

Know that the Lord is God, it is He who made us, Alleluia, not we ourselves, Alleluia. We are his people, the sheep of His pasture, Alleluia, and we are His. Alleluia.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise, give thanks to Him and praise His holy name. Alleluia.

For the Lord is good, His mercy endures forever, and His faithfulness endures, from generation to generation, from age to age.

He Was Wounded for Our Transgressions - Jubilate Choir Tune: Carl Heinrich Graun Text: Isaiah 53:5

Edited and Arranged: Tom Fettke ©2008 Beckenhorst Press; BP1836

He was wounded for our transgressions and for our iniquities. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement that brought us peace, was on him; And with His stripes we are healed.

How Can I keep from Singing: My Life Flows on in Endless Song - Jubilate Choir Text: Robert Lowry

Alt: Paul Adickes, by permission Music: Taylor Davis

©2010 Birnamwood; MSM-50-2545My life goes on in endless song above earth’s lamentations, I hear the real, though far-off hymn that hails a new creation.Through all the tumult and the strife I hear its music ringing,It sounds an echo in my soul. How can I keep from singing?

What though my joys and comforts die? The Lord my Savior liveth; What tho’ the darkness gather round? Songs in the night He giveth. No storm can shake my inmost calm While to that rock I’m clinging;Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, How can I keep from singing?

I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin; I see the blue above it; And day by day this pathway smooths, Since first I learned to love it; The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart, A fountain ever springing; All things are mine since I am his-- How can I keep from singing?

Salmo 150 (Psalm 150) - Jubilate Choir Music: Ernani Aguiar ©1993 Earthsongs

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross - Exultate Choir Tune: O Waly Waly Text: Isaac Watts

Arranged: Dan Forrest ©2010 Beckenhorst Press; BP1899

When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small; Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Grant to me, O God, a Pure Heart - Exultate ChoirText & Music: Andreas Hammerschmidt

Translation: Bradley Greenwald and Paul Oakley ©1991 Hanssler Music USA; K3019

Translation

Grant to me O God, a pure heart, Create in me a spirit of righteousness. And cast me not away from Thee, Neither let Thy spirit depart from me, O God. Comfort me always with thy salvation, And with bountiful joy renew me, renew my heart.

Let Everything That Hath Breath - Exultate Choir Text & Music: Jeffery L. Ames ©1998 Jeffery Amens (Earthsongs);

Sing unto the Lord a new song. Sing unto the Lord all the earth. Declare His glory among the nations. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!

Magnify the Lord with me and exhalt His name together. Hallelujah, bless His name for He’s worthy to be praised. Clap your hands all ye people. Shout with a voice of triumph! For the mighty Lord is great and greatly to be praised. Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!

Come on and praise the Lord. Let us praise His name. Give Him the highest praise. Praise Him! Praise Him with the timbrel, praise Him with the dance. Stand up on your feet and just lift up holy hands. Sing Hallelujah, praise His holy name. For the Lord is worthy to be praised! Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!

Have You Not Known? - Mass Choir Tune: K. Lee Scott Text: Isaiah 40:21-31, alt

Music: K. Lee Scott ©1989 Concordia Publishing; 98-2807

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you that the everlasting God dwells on high in starry splendor? His glory is unspeakable; his power shall never fail.

They that wait on the LORD shall renew their strength. They shall mount up as eagles; they shall run and not grow weary; they shall walk and never faint.

To whom will God, the LORD, compare? Who can stand his equal? By his word he formed the heavens; by his power he e’er sustains them. Vain rulers perish hopelessly; strong nations come to naught.

Then why complain, O Israel? Why downcast, O Jacob? Do you think he does not see? Is your way now disregarded? His knowledge is unsearchable, his wisdom strong and sure.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you that the everlasting God neither tires nor grows weary? E’en youths shall stumble helplessly, the young grow weak and faint.
