Presentation Overview
• LizardTech Background
• DenverGIS Background
• DenverGIS Imagery Services Compatibility
– Legacy approach was using SDE Raster mosaics
– Implemented ArcGIS Server Image Services in 2011
– ArcIMS was only app that could not use AGS/IS.
• Conclusions

The Problem…
• Serving Images as SDE Rasters consumed too
many resources: Disk space, HW & licenses.
• The 2010-3” aerial imagery was too large to
load into an SDE Raster Image.
• ArcGIS Server Image Server resolved these
issues for all client apps but ArcIMS.
• We had no choice but to retain SDE for ArcIMS
image service and were unable to include the
latest 2010 imagery. A real problem…
• We were in a pickle…

The Solution…
• 2 Express Server licenses
– Production License: installed on primary server
– Development License: installed on backup server
• Cost avoidance
– Two 4 CPU Oracle Windows licenses $260,792 (Discounted)
– 1TB disk storage $40,000 (Estimated)
– Two dedicated Windows Servers $40,000 (Estimated)
– Total Costs Avoided $340,792
– Express Server License $8,000 Retail
– ROI - one-time 43:1, recurring 29:1
• Legacy support – ArcIMS worked fine with Express
Server and 2010 imagery was available.
• Speedy imagery delivery with greatly reduced costs.
