• Past projects:– Construction and expansion of the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge, to

accommodate 65 patients and 20 companions from outside of Moncton.

– Purchase of a third linear accelerator which helps to considerably cut the waiting period for radiation treatments.

– Purchase of a brachytherapy system for the treatment of prostate cancer.

– Purchase of a brachytherapy system to provide quality treatments to women with gynaecological cancers. The treatment that used to take 48 hours and had to be repeated has been reduced to 2-4 hours. The rooms that were used for the old treatments are now available for other patients.

– Renovations to the pediatric unit to meet the needs of children and teens battling cancer, allowing their families to be with them while they

receive treatments. – The purchase of a hysteroscope allowing the gyneco-oncology surgeon

to offer his or her patient an efficient non invasive surgical option to remove polyps.

– Establishment of a telemedecine program ensuring out-of-town patients have the same quality of care in their region as they would at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre while avoiding unnecessary travel.

2. Purchase of a High definition Rhinolaryngoscope – This instrument is used in the detection of lesions in the throat, the larynx, the vocal chords and nose. This equipment will visualize lesions in detail and take digital images.

3. PET/CT – This piece of equipment plays an important role in oncology. It helps in cancer diagnostic and in determining its extension to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy. It will also be used to monitor recurrences. This is not only an important acquisition for health care professionals, but it is also very reassuring for the thousands of patients who come for treatment at the Dr. Léon-Richard Oncology Centre.

4. Mgr. Henri-Cormier lodge endowment fund -  These funds are used primarily for renovations, replacement of obsolete furniture, etc... Over the next year, funds will be invested towards various improvement projects to maintain the comfort of patients residing at the lodge.

5. Cancer research - The most important research at the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute is oriented towards breast cancer, leukemia and lymphomas. The funds raised during the Tree of Hope Campaign will increase research capacity in various applications in oncology.
