Our Mission is to promote and enhance bicycle safety by providing resources to children, educating the public and supporting activities that raise awareness to cyclists and drivers alike. In addition to bicycle safety, we also provide annual scholarships for outstanding student athletes, purchase and donate helmets as well as provide other charitable donations as deemed necessary by the community and our supporters. Accidents involving bicycles and cars not only affect the rider and the rider’s family. The person driving the car has to live the rest of their life knowing that they were unintentionally involved in an accident with a bicyclist. It could happen to anyone of us and we want to prevent such tragedies from both ends. We want to take a proactive approach in the prevention of accidents by promoting awareness of both cyclist and driver on safety procedures and sharing the road. On September 21, 2006, David D. Hammar was involved in an accident while riding his bicycle. He was riding for health reasons and was excited to start a new job the following Monday. He was thrown to a temporary death on the side of the road, then revived by paramedics who responded very quickly. His heart was beating once again and he was breathing on his own, only, his brain was severely injured. He was rushed to the hospital in a helicopter and was diagnosed with severe brain trauma and eminent brain death. He clung to life for the rest of the day but began to show signs of brain death that evening. We arranged for organ donation which took place on September 22 and he was deceased following surgery. His liver and both kidneys were immediately transplanted into 3 people, and some of his tissues may be used in the future. David was an inspiration to his family and friends throughout his life and now through his death. He was a teacher, friend and father to those he touched in his lifetime. He now lives on in his family and we owe our courage and determination in starting this foundation to the values he bestowed in us.

The Tour de Long Valley, is an event organized and hosted by The David D. Hammar Foundation. The event is planned as a yearly event, with 2012 being the events 3rd year. Last years event drew 40 volunteers and over 300 registered riders to Long Valley, NJ to take to the local roads to help make this one of the premier cycling fundraisers in NJ. Where were able to bring in over $10,000 from registered riders and sponsors at this event last year and donate the profits of $3500.00 to the Long Valley First Aid Squad. This year we are looking to greatly increase the number of riders which maxed out at 300 riders last year to 500 riders, and increase the profits from this event to share as a larger donation between the Long Valley First Aid Squad, The Washington Township Police Department or Local PBA and The David D. Hammar Foundation. The Tour de Long Valley takes riders on a tour of the beautiful roads found here in Long Valley, NJ. There are multiple courses each varying in distance to choose from based on the riders skill and cycling ability. This year’s three courses range from 20 miles to over 60+ miles. Each rider that attends our event will receive a breakfast and lunch meal, as well as rest / water stops on the longer rides of the event. Each rider is given a cue sheet, with our SAG support phone number. The SAG support vehicles is to help riders who can not continue or who face mechanical issues, while cycling. Each course is completely marked from start to finish and we have course marshals' available at all turns where cyclists may need directional / traffic assistance. The atmosphere of our event is a fun filled day, full of cycling, food, vendors, and great music. We hope this event continues to grow, as it has the past few years, and we hope with your support it will continue to be a success.

Going into our 3rd year organizing this event. Our event has grown in participation by over 600%, and we are anticipating it to grow an additional 200% this year, to have our riders top out around 500, plus volunteers. Here are several reasons why you should be a Tour de Long Valley sponsor this year.

1) The event is for a good cause. The Long Valley First Aid Squad, Washington Twp. Police or PBA, and The David D. Hammar Foundation are the only beneficiaries of this event.

2) A large amount of the riders and volunteers live in Long Valley or the surrounding towns.

3) Your business will be associated with one of Long Valley, and cycling's premier cycling fundraisers in 2012.

4) Full media exposure promoting the Tour de Long Valley including a public relations push in local and regional newspapers, radio ads, posters, post cards, banners, etc..

5) After riders experience the Tour de Long Valley, and learn of the businesses that sponsored the event they will be more likely to use those businesses services then others.

6) Cycling is the #1 fitness and health activity among doctors, lawyers and other high-net worth individuals over the age of 40.

7) You and your employees can enjoy riding or hanging out at the Tour de Long Valley Free of charge.

8) Great way to give back to a local cause!!
