The Shemer Art Center is pleased to present our new fall/winter catalog of classes, workshops & events. We are especially proud of the expanded offerings of classes & workshops this year in a variety of disciplines. We are offering more evening classes and more 2-3 day workshop intensives that make it easier for working adults and families to schedule classes. For families and caregivers, we offer a series that will kick-off with a “Trek Around The World” focusing on the art and culture of several different countries.

The Shemer is where you “fall in love” with art. Whether you are a beginner, want to refresh earlier training, or are an established artist who needs studio time, the Shemer is the place for you!

Shemer is also offering a series of professional development workshops for both artists and arts organizations beginning with Artful Marketing Strategies by Oriana Parker and David Tooker.

The Center is proud to collaborate with Michel Sarda, Art Renaissance Initiative, on a series of art and music lectures and demonstrations during “Happy Hour” from 6:00-7:30 pm the 2nd Thursday of each month throughout the year.

For the first time in several years, the Sunday at Shemer Festival of Art will take place on Sunday, November 4th with over 40 artists featured in booths on the lawn of the Shemer. The Center will also unveil our new Sculpture Garden featuring large-scale works by some of Arizona’s premier sculptors.

Another exciting venture this fall is our MicroDwell Exhibit in the Shemer’s orchard. This exhibit will feature micro dwellings constructed by artists, sculptors, designers, architects & engineers in Phoenix. A special event called Micro Breweries in the Micro Dwellings will take place on Saturday, November 17th with area food trucks providing refreshments from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. Several exciting lectures and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day.

Please plan on joining us for our 2nd Annual Holiday Show & Sale with a dinner, dessert reception, and special preview on Saturday night, December 1, 2012, from 5:00 -9:00 pm. Work by talented Arizona artists and craftspersons will be available for sale all month and available on-line at www.shemerartcenter.org.

We hope to see you in one of our classes or workshops, at one of our special events, or at one of the artists’ openings for an exhibit showcasing Arizona artists.

Since 1984, the Shemer Art Center has been proud to serve as a lasting tribute to a woman who devoted her life to improving the quality of life for all Phoenicians and Arizonans. Her gift has become for its visitors a place of refuge to regroup and renew their spirits, creativity & imagination.We are extremely proud to have been chosen one of the Points of Pride for the City of Phoenix.

Born April, 19, 1919, in Ames, Iowa, Martha Shemer was the youngest child of Dr. John M. Evvard and his wife, Mattie. Along with her siblings, John and Mary Margaret, she spent an idyllic childhood taking nature hikes, studying the trees, the birds, the butterflies, and the stars. In 1933, due to her father’s health, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she attended Phoenix Union High School. Upon graduation in 1937, she married Jack Shemer and raised a family of two boys. Throughout their marriage, Martha bought and sold real estate. When she first saw the historic home in Arcadia, she proclaimed “some-one needs to save this beautiful, historic home and grounds.” Martha Shemer purchased and donated the three-acre lot and historic home, first built in 1919, to the City of Phoenix. She had two dreams: to preserve the property and to provide an arts education facility and community center for the citizens of Arizona. In 1984, the City dedicated the facility as the Shemer Art Center and Museum.

In these cases, the course description includes a cost estimate for the supplies and faculty will provide a list of supplies during the first class session. If the faculty is providing the materials at a cost to the student, this is noted in the course description and the student should bring the specified amount to the first class session. Drawing is the foundation of the visual arts. Learn to render realistically using line and contour, shape and form, light and shadow, space and depth, proportion and perspective. Get acquainted with a range of drawing materials to translate perceptions onto paper and learn the principles of composition. Anyone can learn to draw!

Colored pencils are affordable and portable! You can take them anywhere! This class is for those who are already using colored pencils or those looking for a new medium. Learn about the tools and techniques of color pencil drawing and how to create a variety of textures such as shiny metal, flower blossoms, reptile scales, animal fur and more. Participants will work with a variety of subjects from reference photos and still life to produce their own colored pencil artwork. Open to all levels of experience.

Drawing is an important foundation to painting, and this class will teach you the fundamentals of drawing a portrait. It is desirable to learn these skills using the ease of drawing before adding painting technique. However, we will expiriment with color pencil in AW-6 to expieince realistic, one-of-a-kind drawing. Students will learn the fundamental skills of drawing portraits that they will be able to take with them to use in a sketchbook or in a future painting class.

Learn how to draw on the fly and develop architectural perspective drawing and model colors. This class will take you through the steps of architectural illustration starting with looking and learning about perspective, then developing the lines and finally modeling the color. You will learn to draw the architecture you see on your next walk or vacation.

The world is full of color. This workshop will explore color through exercises helping you understand color harmony, hue, value and intensity. Using colored pencils students will create color wheels and charts that can be used for future reference and learn how to mix colors to obtain desired effects.

Watercolor has the “rep” for being an unforgiving medium – and it certainly can be – but it doesn’t have to be! In this workshop, explore an alternative watercolor surface that is more forgiving, plus techniques for making corrections.

In Arizona, rocks abound! Learn to paint rocks, boulders and rocky ground. Watercolor is the primary medium, however, multi-media – including watercolor, gouache and acrylic, or other materials of your choice – will be acceptable. Enjoy working in this spontaneous, vibrant medium! The course will introduce students at all skill levels to dry pastel materials, stroke techniques and the basic principles of value, composition and color theory. Let’s paint foliage! The landscape painter must learn how to treat foliage both in 3D form that achieves the illusion of depth — AND as flat one-dimensional abstract shape that helps in designing the entire picture plane. These two ideas – while contradictory – work hand in hand. Learn to integrate these foliage concepts with other landscape elements to produce a believable and striking landscape. Workshop:Dynamic Water Color

This workshop will introduce you to the excitement of watercolor. We will explore ways that watercolors can be used to create dynamic landscapes and still life paintings. This class is designed as a basic introduction to oil painting, as well as a refresher course for anyone desiring to try oil painting or sharpen their skills. Oil painting has many wonderful qualities that are not available in other mediums. Fundamentals of Oil Painting

In the process of creating this fascinating necklace you will learn how to make your own wire beads, use patina solution to darken metal, forge your own clasp, work with found items, and finish your piece by adding the beads of your choice.

There is a $25 material fee for this class that includes wire, chain, beads, beading cord, findings, and all sorts of interesting found items to incorporate into your work. Tools will be provided for use, but you may wish to bring your own as well as some small found items to include in your piece.

Learn basic-jewelry design elements, color and bead symbolism before creating a beautiful beaded bracelet. Learn basic jewely-making design elements, techniques, and color symbolism before creating your own stylish necklaces. Participants will choose from a huge selection of bead colors, sizes, and materials from around the world. Supplies & materials provided.

Learn the “ancient” lost wax process to creating sterling silver jewelry! Participants will work directly in wax or use simple moldmaking techniques to make multiple pieces of their original design. Jewelry will be vacuum-cast to capture the finest details. A supply fee of $20 will be collected by the instructor for bulk materials. Students will purchase their own silver and bronze and should expect to spend $20 to $40 depending on personal selection.

Workshop:Simple Silver Casting Larry Nisula

Joan Pevarnik will conduct a one day work shop in throwing sectional pots. She will be throwing sections with 20 lb. pieces of clay and then assembling them into large vessels. Participants are encour-aged to make sectional pieces in the afternoon after a demonstration in the morning. With this technique, you can make vessels as large as your kiln will accomodate. Anyone who has thrown on the wheel can build a pot out of smaller pieces too. This workshop is a day for experimenting and having fun challeng-ing yourself.

Experience the responsive medium of clay. This multi-level class for beginner to intermediate students focuses on the art of wheel-throwing and hand building. Learn the basics of digital photography or improve your photo skills with this photography course. Throughout the course students will learn about the camera, editting, as well as, understanding lighting and themes. You will learn about the history of photography and develop your eye for photography. Each class will come with homework so that you can shoot subjects you enjoy and make your photographs unique. Digital Photography

The human form is a very interesting subject; pointing to the many ways a human body can be twisted, folded or flat. This workshop will cover the human form in photography and participants will be able to photograph a model while experimenting with lighting, expression, and background. Michel will go over human form in the arts and students will learn to understand the body with articulation and flexibility of the model as well as learn and photograph the difference between the naked & the nude.

Please make sure to bring a camera and a tripod to this workshop.

Workshop:The Human Form

In this workshop students will learn about portrait photography. What’s the purpose of a portrait? Participants will be able to learn about backgrounds, the difference of indoor and outdoor shooting, and how important they are. They will also have the chance to experiment with lighting, expression, clothing, and accessories. Michel will teach about ‘candid’ portraits and action shots as well as photographing children or a group of friends.

Photojournalism

This class is project-oriented. Participants will spend three weeks on theory, practice, editing and critiqu-ing - including caption writing. Then, four weeks on short form storytell-ing, i.e., making your editorial point with one or two photographs, and then the class project as “a day in the life” where you will spend a single day on a subject. All students will put a group of photographs and captions together, and lay it out onto four pages. If you want to make it special, we can upload the entire group of projects to a press and have them printed. (unit cost on that for 32-40 pages, hardcover, would be about $35+ per).

Workshop:Book Art

C.J. Shane

Learn the basics of constructing artist’s books. This includes use of tools, choice of papers, and measuring, cutting, and folding techniques. Students will learn how to make book covers and construct some introductory bindings. In the afternoon, they will take basic skills learned in the morning to construct more complex bindings. C.J. Shane has a large collection of artist’s books to demonstrate the different books students can create and later take home to use as reference for individual creative projects later. Bring a sack lunch. The instructor will provide all materials. Students will bring their own tools.

Paste paper is an ancient and traditional surface design treatment for paper. Students will mix basic paste base and add colors of their choice. Then, using special tools (or fingers), they will create swirls, sweeps, pulls or dots on the surface of the paste/paint. Once dry, the patterns become permanent. Use the papers for photo mats, art projects, bookmarks, portfolios, cards and other paper arts applications.

Workshop:Deep Color Paste Paper Surface DesignQuinn McDonald

Hand-decorated papers are not only practical, but also fun to make and a gift in themselves. You’ll make papers to use for wrapping special presents, journaling, book and paper arts use. You will use simple design techniques using stencils and building layers of color on different types of surfaces, from newsprint to fabric. You’ll use fun stencils (both temporary and plastic) to create patterns in the layers. The patterns will be abstract and non-repeat, so you can use every inch of papers without worrying about matching a pattern.

Monsoon papers are papers surface decorated with ink, water, and a deliberate surrender of control. The instructor made the first ones during the hard rains of Phoenix’s Monsoon Season. Come with an open mind and a light heart and you are sure to leave with both about to burst! During this three day intensive workshop, the instructor will be sharing tons of information and many of her unique techniques. This workshop will be experimenting with line as an understructure on which to hang paintings. Students will be using MasquePens, mouth atomizers, applicator bottles, and razor blades, and will be working very small - the idea is not to have “finished paintings” but small samples of each technique. Step-by-step handouts will be provided for each technique that will relate to each small sample created. Because participants won’t be tied up in knots worrying about the finished product, there will be more freedom to enjoy the process and move away from a usual way of working.

Visitors will have a chance to meet the designers and hear them talk about their individual dwellings. Local Arizona micro-breweries along with several area food trucks will offer visitors refreshments while they browse through the orchard to view the dwellings.

Participants will construct a tree out of felt and glue it onto a cloth banner. Layers of shapes will be cut out of felt to represent added to create more dimension to the pieces. Pipe cleaners can also be woven into the banner or springing up from the top to create a more 3-D effect. They will be ready to hang on the wall.

Highlight JapanKokeshi & Samuri Figure

The Kokeshi is a traditional figure, originally made in northern Japan. They are painted in bright floral designs, kimonos, and other tradi-tional patterns. The Samuri has long been a symbol of the warrior, a honorable and trustworthy figure. This workshop will explore the history and traditions surrounding the Hinamatsuri (girl’s day or doll festival) and Kodomo No Hi (children’s day)/Tangu No Sekku (boy’s day) in Japan. Each participant will design their own version of a Samurai or Kokeshi figure.

Memory JarsBased in African and the southern United States, Memory Jars are a way to remember loved ones, document family histories and honor cultural traditions. The jars are traditionally covered with everyday obje cts like keys and shells, varying by the individual maker. We will create our own one-of-a-kind dimensional scrapbook, covered with colorful papers, beads, buttons, and fun objects. The inside may hold photos, a handwritten story, or note to a special loved one. You might want to bring a couple of special personal items to add to your jar.

Art and Animals! Winter Family Series

Arizona BirdsCreate birds nest using a variety of materials then create small colorful clay birds to live in the nest (baby birds and eggs are welcome too!). We will also talk about desert animals and general animal symbolism. Each participant will receive a special “totem” animal bead to use on their desert necklaces.

Stackable Animals We will explore animal symbolism from cultures around the world including, Africa, Japan, the Arctic and North America. Decide what your favorite animals are then shape them out of clay. Once the finishing touches are made, they will be stacked on a dowel to look like a traditional totem pole.


Critters of the World SculpturesDo you like tigers, penguins or bears? Where do they live? Animals have adapted to living in different environments around the world, anything from freezing cold to a burning desert or even a tropical jungle. This workshop, will help you to construct your favorite animals out of clay then create a little “living space” for your new friends out of paper, fabric and other materials.

Taught by Oriana Parker, a professional arts writer/marketing expert, this workshop demonstrates how to write convincingly about your art in ways to attract the attention of overworked editors. Every student learns how to create an effective artist statement, fact sheet, and press release and are given a special workbook manual as well as current local newspaper/magazine media lists. As a special feature, former art gallery/museum director David Tooker discusses how to use well-written press/website materials as a competitive advantage when seeking representation. Elliott Everson is an artist that has been living in Arizona most of his life. He derives much of his inspiration from the desert around us and uses colored pencil to capture the textures and brilliance of the plants and animals. Each drawing consists of layer upon layer of color, to bring out the many subtle hues that nature itself provides. Elliott is a Juried member of the Arizona Artists Guild and a Signature member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and President of the Local Chapter of the CPSA. Elliott graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors degree in Art Education. In recent years he has taught drawing and colored pencil classes and workshops in Phoenix and around Arizona. He is a recipient of several local and national awards for his colored pencil work.

Julie Gilbert-Pollard is the author of Brilliant Color (North Light Books, 2009) and Watercolor Unleashed! (a self-published “chapter at a time” book, 2010). Additional publications include articles in: The Artist’s Magazine (May 2010 and September 1987), How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint Landscapes, International Artist (2004) and Watercolor ’92, Fall Issue. Gilbert Pollard’s two watercolor DVDs were recently released in March, 2011 from North Light Shops / ArtistsNetwork.tv! She has given instruction in watercolor and oil since 1985. She currently conducts classes and workshops at Scottsdale Artists School, Shemer Art Center and Cynthia’s Art Asylum in the greater Phoenix area, Highland Valley Studios in California, Dillman’s Creative Arts Foundation in Wisconsin and La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Itay. A frequent award winner, her oils and watercolors have hung in numerous juried and gallery exhibits and she is a signature member of the San Diego Watercolor Society. Her work is included in many private and corporate collections and is represented in Arizona by Esprit Decor Gallery in Phoenix & Windrush Gallery in Sedona.

Sue Hunter was born in Arkansas but has lived in Arizona since 1960 and thinks of Arizona as home. The lovely desert colors, wide, open spaces, and diverse landscapes of the Southwest provide her with endless subject matter for her paintings. Color is an important aspect of Sue’s art that is reflected in her impressionistic style. She works in pastel, oil, watercolor, and acrylics, graduated from Western International University and has studied art at Scottsdale Artists School, Scottsdale Community College, with local art instructors and has attended numerous workshops locally and in Europe. She had an article written about her work in the March, 2010 issue of Southwest Art. Her work isincluded in many private and public collections and has been juried in the Scottsdale Artists School’s Best and Brightest show numerous times. She is a juried member of Arizona Artists Guild, Arizona Watercolor Association, Arizona Pastel Artists Association - Signature, Contemporary Watercolors, Mid-Southern Watercolorists - Signature, Scottsdale Artists League, Sonoran Artists League and Degas Pastel Society. She teaches classes in watercolor, acrylic, oil and pastel at Paradise Valley Community College, Shemer Art Center and Terravita Art Club.

Alan Jones has been a full-time studio production potter and ceramic sculptor since 1973. During his career he sold works to museum shops, galleries and department stores across the US. He has also designed sculptural awards for local arts and business organizations. Alan has mastered and innovated techniques in both functional and decorative disciplines including slab and coil (hand and machine formed); extruder, potters wheel and plaster press-mold. Alan has built kilns for himself and others. His firing experience includes: low-fired clay works and surface treatments: pit firing (both above and below ground), raku ware smoke, or saggar-fired decorative sculpture. He began teaching the art of his craft in 1993, and has enjoyed the excitement of sharing techniques and concepts with his students ever since.

John Erwin has been painting in watercolors for over twenty years. He is a juried member of the Arizona Artist Guild, the Arizona Watercolor Society, and a signature member of the Contemporary Watercolorist of Arizona. He has studied locally with Diane Maxey, Dick Phillips, with Robert E. Woods and Milford Zornes. He also has three degrees from ASU and currently teaches in the Paradise Valley School District. John’s paintings reflect his love of color, details, and design. His love of travel is often seen in his paintings as he hopes to transport the viewer to a world of exciting color and romance.

instructorsShari Keith, who is known as The Junk Lady, is a collector of junk extraordinaire. She creates jewelry and art from found objects, and her work has been featured in galleries throughout the U.S. Her unique way of using junk to decorate her home was featured in the Arizona Republic, and almost all of the clothing she wears is recycled. Shari Keith holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree in Education. She is a Roster Artist for the Arizona Commission on the Arts and works as a teaching artist who shares her passion for the environmental and artistic benefits of using found and discarded items as a medium for creating art.

Joan Pavernik has been a studio potter along with her husband Steve since graduating from Northern Arizona University in 1980. They have studios in Williams, and Vail, AZ with kilns in both places. They are also the owners of Echo Canyon Art Gallery in Flagstaff.Sandra Luerhsen earned

BA and MA degrees at Northern Illinois University and an MFA degree at Arizona State University. She left a position as an assistant dean at ASU to start her own business. She also teaches 3D design at Mesa Community College in AZ. Several public and private collections hold Luehrsen’s work including the Auckland Institute and Museum and the Kamm Teapot Foundation. The Ceramic Surface Design Book features Luehrsen’s art with ceramic transfers.

Larry Nisula has had numerous exhibitions of his work presented throughout the valley and had over ten one-man shows at Fagen-Peterson Gallery in Scottsdale. He was also a MARS artist in Phoenix. A Phoenix native, his sculpture and prints have been collected by the Tucson Museum of Art, the Museum of Northern Arizona University, ASU West, Glendale Community College, and Merchants Press, Poughkeepsie, New York. He has been written up in Who’s Who in American Art and Who’s Who in the West. He has lectured at Phoenix College on Arts & Books in Review. Larry takes great pride in teaching others to sculpt or the art of printmaking and has taught for over 20 years at the community college level and at the Shemer.

Quinn McDonald spent 25 years in corporations, watching communications succeed, and watching it fail. Communication failure creates skills in problem solving, listening, and asking questions. In 2003, became a life coach and a certified creativity coach, then opened QuinnCreative. She has kept a journal for decades and created a series of journals made from discarded library books. She adds art to the journals through collage, found poetry, illustration, and raw art. For Quinn, journaling is a way to make meaning in life. Quinn writes the Business of Art column for Somerset Studio magazine and The Raw Edge coaching column for Art Quilt Studio. She also is a regular contributor to Create Mixed Media, F+W Media’s art blog and Jenny Doh’s Good Coach website. Quinn uses coaching to help people find or develop their careers, and incorporate creativity in their lives. She is the author of Raw Art Journaling: Making Meaning, Making Art, published by North Light Books. Quinn is working on another book on art journaling.

Cynthia Peterson began seriously studying art at Glendale Community College. She was introduced to old mastertechniques of egg tempera and oil glazing. During a brief residence in Austria, she took a workshop on egg tempera with Wolfgang Manner and Ernst Fuchs. She received her BFA degree from Northern Arizona University where she focused on painting and graphic design. As a graduate student at Arizona State University, she began specializing in water media. Currently she is Adjunct Faculty in Painting / Drawing at Mesa Community College. A desire to branch out has led her to different art venues including the Shemer Art Center and Museum, Brio Fine Arts and Scottsdale Artists School.

Oriana Parker. A professional writer all of her life, Oriana Parker was a copywriter and creative director at major advertising agencies in Chicago and on the East Coast. Since moving to Arizona more than 20 years ago, the Chicago native has created press materials for the Elaine Horwitch galleries as well as the Faust and King galleries, the Heard Museum, and the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. For several years, she was the arts writer for Phoenix and West Valley sections of the Arizona Republic. Oriana writes on the arts for Arizona State University and her articles have appeared in ArtNews, Travel & Leisure, Native Peoples, Phoenix Magazine and Valley Guide.

Christy Puetz has a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Concentration in Fiber Art, Printmaking, and Art History. She is a professional visual artist, has nine years of experience as a teaching artist, has been a museum educator with experience in art program development, a lecturer and is co-author of the children’s book, “Get Connected to Yourself and the World of Beads.” She has worked with children, adults, and those individuals with disabilities or serious illnesses. All workshops come with hands-on objects, music, art-making materials, instruction and cultural/historical information.

Michel Sarda, art photographer, was raised in Paris, France, where he lived and worked before moving to Arizona in 1984. As a practicing architect, he operated his own architectural firm in Paris for fifteen years, during which he was involved in drawing, painting, writing, and photography. Through his architectural commissions, world travel and personal interests, he accumulated knowledge in several forms of arts. A writer in both French and English, Sarda has released four photography “coffee table” books on the Phoenix area, and several other publications. Including, Flying Colors, a visual homage to the artistry of his friend Patsy Lowry for her extraordinary fabric design. He is currently completing an essay entitled Self-Image Discovery — the healing power of photographic portraiture, and a book on the art of his friend, painter Jim Covarrubias.

In 1992, with his wife Donnalee, Michel Sarda established the nonprofit Art Renaissance Initiative, which have been nominated multiple times to the Arizo-na Governor’s Arts Awards for outstand-ing contribution to the arts, education and culture in Arizona. Sarda lectures regularly at the Shemer on European and local artists and authors.

Donna Stenger has a Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Cincinnati. After years of social work, she moved to Phoenix in 1980, raising two children. She took her first dry pastel class in 1989 at the Phoenix Center for the Arts. In the fall of 1999 she was hired as the pastel instructor for the Phoenix Center and the Shemer Art Center and Museum and continues to hold those positions today. That same year she became a signature member of the Arizona Pastel Artists Association. Donna has also taught at the Brio Fine Art Center. Her studio is located in The Artery building in downtown Phoenix, where she and several Artery artists have established a collective. The doors are open on First Fridays of every month and the Collective Gallery is open First and Third weekends.

C.J. Shane is a Tucson artist with primary interests in painting, relief printmaking, and artist’s books. Her books appear both in limited editions, and as one-of-a-kind sculptural works which can be found in private and institutional collections including the University of Arizona Special Collections and Colorado College. Two of her books were included in 1,000 Artists’ Books: Exploring the Book as Art from Quarry Books (June, 2012).Shane has been a popular teacher of book arts for several years. Past students say:

David Tooker, a third generation Arizona Native, studied art and art history in New York at the Art Students League, The National Academy of Fine Art and Columbia University. Related to noted social realist painter George Tooker, and traveling extensively in early childhood, visiting nearly every major museum in the world David had an early introduction to the arts due to his parents rooted interest in all the arts. Drawing upon a classic New York arts education as well as extensive professional experience in the Valley art scene, Tooker will bring real life experience to the topics of pricing, promotion and methodology to enter the art scene either as a “fine artist” or an adventurous commercial artist.

Alan Staats has been a professional photographer and journalist for more than 40 years; his client list has included both local and international galleries, museums and collectors. In addition, he has provided photography for numerous books and hundreds of magazine articles. As much of his collection photography has been done on location, either in the artists’ studios or collectors homes, he has developed techniques utilizing lighting and backgrounds that, in his words, “travel well… and light!” On art assignments he’s used everything from state-of-the-art strobes, softboxes, umbrellas and tethered computers to reading lights, bed sheets, tracing paper, books and clothes pins and will demonstrate how each extreme can, and will, work for attendees.

Jo Toye is an experimental artist with a strong background in design, who finds joy in bringing the intuitive nature of play with the more formal elements of design. The recurring element of line is seen through most of her paintings. To Jo, line is connection. Line is the path that starts the journey with creative shape, color, texture and composition to reach the destination. Her motivation is always the same – experimentation. It is this love of the unexpected that gives her work its freshness and unique vision.

In 2009 Jo was honored to be selected for the annual “Ones to Watch” feature article of Watercolor Artist Magazine. Her works have been featured in several other magazine articles and books. Among her awards, she took 1st Place in Acrylic at the 2012 Glendale Arts Council 49th Annual Exhibition.

Amber Wanielista-Reinker After apprenticing under a Florida set director for film, where the strongest point is to follow script and functionality she studied illustration and design education course work at Northern Arizona University. Her first position was in a city planning division, which gave way to an art director position in a development firm. She, then, started her own design business to further her design carreer. She is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, and teaches part time at several institutions including Mesa Community College and Scottsdale Community College. She has also continued her work for several high end architectural firms, landscaping and building companies who request her ideas, renderings, artistic knowledge and ability to produce beautiful product such as Mark Candelaria, Hague partners, Oz Architects, Inc and Pickett while she spends numerous hours researching art of different country’s and cultural significance to art and design.
